[Future] Matthew Chaim – Untitled

Continuing the recent trend of fresh new talent pouring in from our neighbors to the north, Montreal-based producer and lyricist Matthew Chaim released his latest track “Untitled”. Following up the successful “Vanilla Ways”, Chaim once against enlisted the help of Noah Barer and Cavewerk – fellow Montrealers – on production.

“Untitled” is a catchy, airy track that flows nicely around a crooning, piano and bongo infused hook. While Chaim focuses this song around the always-relatable trope of maturation, this song is sure to hit close to home for many, only increasing its appeal. Stay tuned for more releases of Matthew Chaim’s on the Canada based JUS POP label, and on his Soundcloud page.

[House] Eric Sharp Feat. Gavin Turek – Love Can’t Wait

It’s funny how our attitudes and thoughts are correlated to the environment. Cloudless skies instantly transform sadness into joy, while grey and rainy days can turn even the best mood into a horrible one. Luckily for us, spring is right around the corner, and so is the warmer weather that brings lush and colorful scenery. As the season nears us, the hardness of the winter’s cold softens to mild temperatures that trigger an annual nostalgia.

Eric Sharp’s latest original, “Love Can’t Wait” featuring Gavin Turek, provides identical effects. The tune fosters a refreshing sound as Gavin’s resonating voice threads together rich melodic notes. It exudes an energy that is both stimulating and soothing, awakening all senses while the smooth vocals present listeners with a feeling of intimacy. In other words, “Love Can’t Wait” is dpring in the form of a song, and can assure you that you’ll be springing right into love with this one.

[Rock] Episode – Lost in Cali

Infected by their first release ‘Swim’, we have delved further into Episode’s releases. As a more delicate piece, ‘Lost in Cali’ explores mixed perceptions of California and LA, against their nostalgia of New York.

The track was born in LA, and the band describe is as “a beautiful city, and at it’s highs it feels surreal and distorted, but at it’s lows it feels empty in the way that New York feels whole”. Have a listen, and let us know what you think!
We’re stoked to have stayed in touch with these guys, as they’re set for awesome things in the near future!
Up and coming shows include ‘Arlene’s Grocery’ in New York on 4th March.
Enjoy!

[Dubstep] Point.Blank – Awake EP

Belgian producer Point.Blank is well known for some downright gritty creations. Buygore is known for releasing some of the highest quality records at the moment, so putting the two together is pretty much a no-brainer. The result was the Awake EP, a five track project packed with entirely original tracks without any collaborations. As is stated in the URLs of Point.Blank’s socials, you’re gonna get dubstep, but that didn’t stop a little DnB from making its way onto the EP.

Instead of waking up to some coffee to get your mind right in the morning, all you really need is this EP. No matter what song you choose, you get that in-your-face sound that bassheads love to hear. For us, the tracks “Broken Mirror” and “Paperboy” take the cake, but the other three are undeniably bangin’. Get some biofreeze ready, because you’re going to need it after headbanging your way through these tracks. If you’d like to hop on a purchase, then head over to Beatport for the EP.

[House] option4 ft. Rose Quartz – Love Is Lonely

Today we share with you a special sadboy anthem. For all the girls out there, don’t fret, as this one isn’t actually gender-specific. “Love Is Lonely” is an original single by option4 featuring Rose Quartz that is quite a deep, sad record. This Denver producer put together one extraordinary record that really touches you to your core. For anyone who has had a difficult relationship, you now have a song to express the feelings. The lyrics on this are compelling, and the production is magnificent. option4’s composition is fitting of the emotions of the lyrics, and are still catchy for being such an overcast record. There’s not a whole lot going on, but the counterplay between the sounds that are used is the work of calculated genius. “Love Is Lonely” is one of my personal favorite records of the year so far, it’s just that good. Give it a listen for yourself and download it for free if you’re digging this jam.

[Deep House] Henri PFR – Home (Radio Edit)

Belgian producer Henri PFR comes to us with an original single by way of Epic Amsterdam. Straight from Brussels he comes with the radio edit of his song “Home.” For a DJ being on tour can be tough as you long for the comforts of your own space. This is what prompted the creation of Henri’s emotional track. The deep style mixed in with the touching vocal really conveys that feeling of the longing desire. “Home” is an intimate track that everyone can relate to, and it doesn’t have to even be in the literal sense of home. As the lyrics share, “home is where I am when I’m with you.” The song’s composition is as down-to-Earth as the idea behind the song, with smooth melodies and some whistling that is reminiscent of Fitz And The Tantrums’ “The Walker,” although it doesn’t go as overboard. “Home” is currently available on iTunes for purchase.

[Electronic] GRiZ – Stop Trippin’ (Louie Lastic Remix)

All Good Records CEO and musical pioneer GRiZ has become a true 21st Century ambassador for funk–not only in sound but also in his approach to collaborations. One of the attributes of the OG funk movement that made it so successful was its inclusive nature–Parliament / Funkadelic constantly cycled new young musicians into their band while cycling others out as established solo artists. GRiZ has kept that inclusion alive by signing a diverse set of artists such as The Floozies, SunSquabi and Muzzy Bearr to All Good and working with seemingly all artists who cross his path irregardless of genre. It comes as little surprise that his approach has led to collabs with some of funk’s legends as well–most recently The Floozies collaborated with George Brown of Kool & The Gang on a remix of “She Ain’t Yo Girlfriend.”

Just in the past few months we’ve seen GRiZ commission official remixes from up n comers Big WildChill HarrisAutograf and more–giving exposure to budding producers and creating some fantastic music along the way. Today, we get the latest remix of “Stop Trippin” from DMV-based producer Louie Lastic, who opened for GRiZ at a few recent shows and is most well known for cultivating Goldlink‘s ‘future bounce’ sound. His rendition transforms the original implementing the bouncy, house-leaning vibe that has become signature Lastic. The result is a fantastic collision of forward-thinking, genre-bending styles–kick off your weekend right above.

[Groovy] INSTRUM – Night Rolls (ft. Somni)

INSTRUM is one of the few producers we religiously follow here at TMN. With that said, it’s truly amazing to see how he progresses as an artist. He hits the jackpot once again with this groovy gem titled “Night Rolls”. The vocals provided by the other star of the tune, Somni, also co-wrote the song together with INSTRUM. The enchanting lyrics combined with the tropical synths make for a relaxed tune that will lift up your spirits. The catchy guitar riffs also highlight the track, together with the groovy bassline, it’s definitely something you want to sing along and dance to for a good time.

“Night Rolls” will be out on Feb 29 via Armada Deep on major platforms. Make sure to support his releases if you dig his music! Seriously, sky is the limit for INSTRUM.

[Indie Rock] Yoke Lore – Heavy Love

As the week closes out, we’ve got another brand new artist for you. Well, sort of. Musician Adrian Galvin is a founding member of the band Yellerkin, who were featured in our Indie Dojo playlist almost exactly a year ago. Earlier this week, the multi-talented artist announced a solo project under the moniker Yoke Lore with a song that we absolutely had to share. Diverging from the folk-stylings of Yellerkin, “Heavy Love” features a soaring sound with beautifully layered vocals to match. Additional electronic instrumentations–atmospheric pads and pounding synths–add a chillwave flavor that truly ties the song together. Still, Galvin’s somber, emotive crooning may be the most enticing part of the track drawing the listener in from the very start.

“Heavy Love” is the first single of Yoke Lore’s upcoming debut EP, Far Shore, which is due out this spring. In the meantime, save this soothing gem for your weekend hangover and peep what Galvin had to say about the project below.

Yoke Lore is about connections and contact. Music is a medium for communicating ideas and identities and stories. Yoke Lore is a set of stories; a collection of mundane accounts of relationships between people and things. We use these stories both in times of dejection to find solace and in times of bliss in order to remember ourselves… Yoke Lore is a mythical language that gives voice to all of us who at times cannot articulate why living is so tough.

Faulkner – Waters Are A Rising [TMN Premiere]

Everyone knows the phrase, “snitches get stitches.” The bi-coastal band Faulkner has taken that phrase to heart for the creation of their latest song “Waters Are A Rising” that the ninjas premiere to you. The retributive single takes the best rock sounds from the past few decades and puts them into one single creation. The verses and chorus juxtapose each other incredibly well, and then Faulkner changes things up again with the refrain in the second half of the song that leads to a climactic finish.

There’s a real push and pull with this record that makes it a great listen. You won’t simply be listening to the song; rather, you will feel engaged with it. That’s when you know you have something special. “Waters Are A Rising” is the second single off Faulkner’s upcoming EP Revanchist. You get full peak of the track early, however you will have to wait until March 11th to own it thanks to Street Invasion Records. In conclusion, we will leave you with a little fun fact about this record: RZA was one of the producers.

StaG – Code Of The Schoolyard [TMN PREMIERE]

Los Angeles-based duo StaG has been churning out solid tunes for a few years now, showcasing their adept ability to playfully combine dancy electronic elements, traditional instrumentation, quirky lyrics, and unique vocal styles. With dozens of releases already behind them, they’re now focused on their upcoming album, Don’t Check Out.

The album as a whole was inspired by a night so many of us are familiar with – drunkenly mulling over life in general. The title, initially purposed to describe the experience at being mediocre at best, eventually evolved into a tribute to the weird, intimate, and oddly perfect friendship between bandmates Matt and Will. Truly a vulnerable moment that we can all appreciate, especially given the opportunity to share it by enjoying this body of work.

Part of that collection of songs is today’s premiere, “Code Of The Schoolyard,” which is highlighted by some glowing falsettos that pair up perfectly with ethereal synths. The upbeat, hi-hat heavy percussion help drive the song along, giving a splendid juxtaposition to those vocals we just can’t get enough of. When asked about the meaning behind this tune, the guys had this to say:

“Code of the Schoolyard” is inspired by a Simpsons episode wherein Bart gets repeatedly beat up by Nelson Muntz before putting together an army of kids to fight back. It takes Bart’s experience in that episode and relates it to feeling like the weird kid in the corner.

Make sure to support these guys and pick up “Code of the Schoolyard” and the rest of the album over on StaG’s bandcamp page.

Glint – Get Out The Way [TMN PREMIERE]

For a lot of you, this is probably the first time being introduced to this New York-based duo. After today, though, you’ll be scrambling to like their facebook page, follow them on twitter, and marking their album release down on your calendar. It’s due out March 11th, by the way, via Votiv/Universal. Feel free to put that reminder in your phone now.

Glint is the product of Jase Blankfort, who left a successful career on Broadway to create what you’re experiencing now. The other half of this impressive, quickly-rising duo is Anders Fleming, who joins Jase as another multi-instrumentalist, bringing a bevy of talents to the entire production.

While their social following seems like these two are just getting started, they’re actually already quite seasoned, having opened up for acts like MGMT, TV on the Radio, The Airborne Toxic Event, BT, Ghostland Observatory, Broken Social Scene, and more. Those shows caught the eyes and ears of countless publications and tastemakers, getting praise from Billboard, Artrocker, and NME.

Now focused on releasing their new album, the band has graciously agreed to premiere the lead single with us today. “Get Out of The Way” is a commandingly anthemic song, led by goosebump-inducing, gorgeous vocals. Emotive, powerful, and entrancing, the combination of lyrics, booming percussion, and soft, fluttering synths leave listeners with feelings of introspection and inspiration. We’d be surprised if you don’t find yourself reaching for the repeat button a few times over.

[Alternative] Nozart – Just Let It Go

A bridge between alternative and electronic is always welcome, and Nozart is here to provide this exact sound. Breaking a year’s worth of silence, this New York native has graced us with an orchestral creation that juggles a myriad of unique and stellar influences.

While comparisons may seem lazy to some, they can certainly aid to explain an unfamiliar sound to fans that they might eventually enjoy, and Nozart encompasses many pleasurable examples of this. “Just Let It Go” explores a mix of the notable songwriting of The Beatles along with certain instrumental elements of Vampire Weekend and Death Cab For Cutie. While these are bold claims, we certainly don’t make them lightly, as Nozart has developed his sound carefully and thoughtfully. Whether it seems silly to draw these conclusions on his new tune or not, we know it’s good and deserves to be heard. Nozart has something great going on. He already has prominent producers vouching for his abilities (Brasstracks and JNTHN STEIN, for starters), and we CERTAINLY are intrigued by his most recent effort. Do yourself a favor and enjoy his work above!

[Deep House] Jade Blue – How To See

London-based electronic producer Jade Blue has recently released her single with Black Butter Records, “How To See,” and it’s really putting her on the map here for us at TMN. Jade just knows exactly what to do to create an instant hit. We can’t wait until we hear this dropped at a show and get to be the cool kids that furiously dance all up in the space.

This track makes it apparent that Jade has a great grasp on both tech and deep house, and her transition from one to the other is pretty flawless here. She’s got a great way of creating depth in the track with a variety of synths and panning in all ends of the spectrum. One moment you’ll be hearing cosmic zooms, and the other you’ll find yourself in a bass drop so good it hurts. Her work has got us feeling like we’re at a show in the likes of a Dirtybird BBQ, but with a little more glitch in her style. We’re happy to give her many props for this track.

[Chill] Barny B – Free Your Mind (Etched Remix)

The UK’s Barny B (fka Barny Rubble) first caught my attention nearly two years ago with “Sucrose,” an aggressive electro-house cut that normally wouldn’t fall into my wheelhouse. The following releases are what really cemented my fandom, though, displaying a versatility that combines elements of UK garage with melodic and bass-driven house music. “Free Your Mind,” which dropped a month ago, encapsulates his style with a catchy bass-line and entrancing vocals provided by himself.

Earlier today, London-based up ‘n comer Etched dropped an official remix for the single flipping its vibe from dance-floor anthem to downtempo-bass masterpiece. As the song kicks off with an atmospheric, future R&B vibe, the vocals remain hypnotizing but in an entirely different way. That Atu-esque serenity contrasts with trap percussion gaining a mind-altering layer courtesy a manipulated vocal sample. All the while the original’s lyrics glide above creating a psychedelic listening experience that crescendos in the final minute. Don’t miss this one and keep your eye out for new material from both budding producers.

[Electronic] Yung Wall Street – Baby

With the volume of dope Soundcloud releases on a daily basis, there’s bound to be a few tracks we love that don’t make it to the pages of TMN. Just like so many great tunes before it, Yung Wall Street‘s “Baby” may have fallen through the cracks if it weren’t my most played song for the last week. The Moving Castle affiliate has been a mainstay in various Dojos but his latest, Fool’s Gold-released single may be our favorite of his to date.

“Baby” features a lush soundscape accompanied by a vocal sample that absolutely explodes at the chorus. The track doesn’t do anything revolutionary from an arrangement standpoint, but it doesn’t need to. Yung Wall Street’s electro-feels are flawless bringing to mind the likes of Vindata‘s “Spirals” or Hudson Mohawke‘s “Shadows.” Peep above–if it’s your first listen, we doubt it’ll be your last.

[Indie Rock] Bitmap – I Threw My Life Into The Sea

Your ears aren’t deceiving you. It’s not 1967, and you’re not listening to The Beatles. You’re actually enjoying the latest tune from East Yorkshire-based Bitmap, which is coming your way via Love Our Records.

Love your record is an understatement. We’re head over heels about it. The combination of upbeat percussion, rhythmic guitars, playful backing vocals, and memorable lead vocals leave us wanting to pack up nothing more than swim trunks, flip flops, and some bare necessities, for a cross-country road trip to the beach.

Speaking of vans, the release comes with a slightly bizarre annotation, which you can find below. Once you finish up with that, head over and give this budding young act a like on facebook.

Rent a van. A small one will do. Fill it up carefully with everything you own. Drive it to the coast, down onto the beach if you can. Unload the van into the black, icy water. Watch as your vinyl collection, toothbrush, shoes and passport disappear beneath the rising tide. Soon they’ll all be gone for good. Eventually, the van will no longer be visible either. Finally, empty your pockets onto what’s left of the sand and walk away. Don’t look back. You’ve probably lost the deposit on the van, but that’s the least of your worries now.

[Synth-Rock/Indie] Operators – Cold Light

It’s no great secret that sadly, here in 2016, the music blog world has devolved into an endless stream of click-baitey ‘news’ articles and an aggressive pissing contest of sorts between similar publications of who can post something first. So, not to be TMN’s resident grumpy music nostalgist or anything, but whenever tunes are missed on a writer’s initial radar and surface some weeks down the road, there has been an unsatisfying feeling lingering in many writers’ souls in that they “missed the boat” and no longer feel compelled to post said song as it may effect their ‘credibility'; even though they may in fact be completely infatuated with a song or album, thus quelching an opportunity of a share from someone who genuinely enjoys it. Which is a silly thing to think about anyhow, as many of us started primarily as enthusiastic music lovers who only ever covered the music we loved, and not the music that comes with the largest PR & publicity push. Phewww….

Basically, after the long winded and caffeinated semi-rant, what this writer is trying to say is that: “I’ve fallen madly in love with a band and tune which dropped a month ago; but I just have to share it with whomever will listen via my tiny, web-based soap box!” The tune and band here in questions is “Cold Light”, from former Divine Fits and Wolf Parade member Dan Boeckner’s latest project Operators. “Cold Light” plays like a breezy, early New Order single, but in place of Bernard Sumner’s tender refrain lie the passionate howls that have become Boeckner’s trademark over the years. Just captivating stuff to this writer’s ears really. Operators, which features Boeckner’s former Divine Fits bandmate Sam Brown on drums and Devojka on keys, recruited Holy Fuck’s Graham Walsh (who also holds chief production credits on records for Viet Cong & Alvvays) as their chief sound engineer, and we think the results alreadyspeak for themselves. “Cold Light” marks Operators’ debut single from debut long-player Blue Light, due out 4/1 on Canadian imprint Last Gang Records (pre-order here), so until then, get your kicks by either catching them live on one of the many tour dates listed below, or by streaming Operators’ impressive lead single above.

[Hip-Hop] THEY. – Motley Crue (Beshken Remix)

When I found this particular “Motley Crue” remix I had to share it, and truth be told, I’m a fan of everything Mind Of A Genius touches. Let me introduce you to Beshken, a rising artist and producer who’s blend of hip hop and electronic sounds are addictive. His rendition of  THEY.’s “Motley Crue” takes the listener on a relaxing sonic journey and I’m truly excited to see what music he has in store for us.

Beshken began producing in 2012 after buying his first 88 key midi keyboard. Previously trained as a rock and jazz guitarist, he first became interested in dance music when DJing house parties in Los Angeles. In late 2015, Beshken moved to New York City to study music at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU; this shift shaped both his view on the culture of electronic music and sonic experimentation. With support from Next Wave Records, Majestic Casual, and more, Beshken is just getting started. Also be sure to check out his Closed Doors EP when you get the chance.

[NEW] NAO – Fool To Love

NAO was certainly one of our favorite artists to emerge from the UK in 2015, and she reminds us why with her new single, “Fool To Love”. The latest offering from the British songstress serves as an empowering break-up anthem, meant for those who’d prefer to move on rather than wallow in sorrow. While NAO might be expressing regrets over her previous relationship, you’re no “Fool To Love” this track. Stream the tune above and look for more from NAO as she prepares for the release of her debut album later this year.

[House] WOMP! & Maya Payne – Falling (Remix)

DAMN! Be careful with this as it’s a hot one. Newly formed act WOMP! just had a debut single drop today in the form of a remix of New Zealand singer Maya Payne’s track “Falling.” This is one of our favorite tracks of the year, and it’s WOMP!’s first single under the new act. The clean mix of bass and future house is perfectly executed. This is what other producers aspire for when they sit down to make a record of a similar style. Sound design is a key element in this track, whose bass sounds are just one of the many highlights of the record. For starters, Maya Payne offers up a vocal performance in her original that is nothing short of an A+, but what WOMP! did with it was just phenomenal. This is why it’s been dubbed as an official remix by the original creator. To kick off the project, this remix has been released as a free download, which we urge you to get and share around. WOMP!’s got some serious talent that you shouldn’t be sleeping on.

[Deep House] Sigma – Stay (Kat Krazy Remix)

London is home to a lot of great music. Kat Krazy has a significant role in that, thanks to his numerous remixes and tracks with the likes of Coldplay and Rihanna. Most recently, KK dished out an official remix of Sigma’s single “Stay” that will have clubs Djs everywhere clawing each other for the file. House music as always been a specialty of Kat Krazy’s but he really nailed it with this remix.

“Stay” in its new form is a delicious medley of pop and deep house. Sensual basslines are accompanied by powerful piano and subtle vocal chops that give the track that real sharp dance edge. It’s one of those records that you can put on all day and not think twice about it. One of the things that really stands out in our ears is that piano that we previously mentioned. There are plenty of quality things about this record, but there’s just something so alluring about the keys. Give this track a listen through and head over to Hypem to heart it if you’re really digging it.

[Electronic] Molly Moore – Piece Of My Heart (Sweekuh Remix)

As an artist, one is constantly exploring and testing their creativeness. This means their art is always susceptible to change and transformation until they have established a style that they identify with themselves. It is normal to try out many methods in order to find that sound that says “this is me.” In Sweekuh’s case, his music has exhibited an assortment of styles as his abilities continue to mature. His discography holds a range of genres as he dips his feet into a multitude of musical waters, all of which he incontestably masters.

After listening to Sweekuh’s latest work, a remix of Molly Moore’s “Piece of my Heart,” it was impossible for us not to provide him with some well-deserved credit. It is fair to say that the track is a breakthrough for him; it establishes that long sought-after sound – the one that makes you say “this is exactly how it should be”. Take our word for it when we say this one is worth every minute of your listening time.

Last week we featured the music video for “Number”, the latest from Vancouver based TMN regulars DiRTY RADiO –who are coming fresh off of a North American tour with Dragonette and Miami Horror- and today marks a return to that aforementioned single in the form of a very palatable remix by London-based production outfit The Writers Block. While largely keeping DiRTY RADiO’s original vocal track intact on their buoyant revision, The Writers Block encase around it a soulful house foundation. Bouncy synth work, shuffling hi-hats and a weighty low-end pull everything together, creating that perfect remix intersection between doing justice to the original and building something completely new. Manatee Commune – Simple Lessons [TMN PREMIERE]

It’s quite late right now, and as I write this, I’m torn between leisurely lounging on my couch, drink in hand, incessantly tapping my foot with a toothy grin spread across my face, or getting ready for a night on the town, casually throwing responsibilities to the wind. That’s the beauty in “Simple Lessons.” It effortlessly buzzes along lines of pure dance music and ambient electronica, giving us a soundscape that’s as lush as the foliage that sprawls across the home state of its producer.

Manatee Commune hails from the Pacific Northwest, and has started to create quite the name for himself. Recently earning the title of best electronic artist by Seattle Weekly, he’s now dialed up with a record with Brooklyn-based Bastard Jazz Recordings, and you’re about to get a taste today.

The composition is calculated and precise, bringing a bevy of light, airy synths, radiating percussion comprised of clicks, pops, and feathery snare hits, along with well-placed and well-treated vocal samples. It’s never overwhelming, showcasing a delightfully busy space that works together in something that’s both relaxed and invigorating.

Learning how to share my creative process with my friends completely revolutionized the last of year of music for me. Inviting those I trusted and loved into my studio to spend even just an hour talking or jamming opened fountains of inventive energy for me, especially from the ones who lacked any musical knowledge. I soon found myself incredibly inspired by the originality of even the smallest interactions with people, and so I pointed my field mic at anyone who had a story, a melody, or a stumbling beat they had been absentmindedly drumming, all in the hopes of capturing their individuality and framing it with my ever expanding insight into audio production. – Manatee Commune

“Simple Lessons” can be found on his upcoming Thistle EP this Friday. We highly recommend picking it up for your weekend festivities, whether they happen from the comfort of your own home, or within a low-lit dance club. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

“Goose” casually struts into your headspace with ease, carrying a confident aura that not only demands your attention but insists you dance along with it. The funny thing is, this is the very first release from this Stockport-based born four-piece, and we’re hard-pressed to believe it. The refined nature, the radiant vibrancy, the well-crafted lyrics – they’re just too damn good for a first release. But, as much as you’d like to think these cats are seasoned vets of the industry, they’re just coming up.

As usual, we’re overwhelmingly excited to bring you a first listen at this shiny, brand-new, and downright addictive act. Comprised of Isaac Taylor (vocals/guitar), Jack Walsh (bass), Luigi Di Vuono (guitar) and Matt Buckley (drums), No Hot Ashes are collectively influenced by legendary acts like Nile Rodgers and Johnny Marr, which can be heard throughout their funky iconic guitar riffs and well-defined pop sensibilities.

“Goose” is set to be released on February 23rd via Warrington label, Playing With Sound and will be available to purchase on iTunes and Spotify.

[House] Carmada – Realise (Two Can Remix)

Since starting up just two years ago, The Australian brothers Myles and Oscar, aka Two Can, have risen out of the land down under into the global scene, pushing remixes that have reached #1 on Hype Machine and playing festivals all over the world. The duo recently released a refreshing remix of Carmada’s trap tune “Realise” through OWSLA.

The track takes a different direction from Carmada’s original heavy trap sound. Here, “Realize” is reimagined in a more approachable progressive house vibe, with elements of the original banger skillful preserved in the background. This one will surly have you grooving in your seat before it’s over. Two Can has been killing it over the past two years and we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes on these guys to see what they have in store for the rest of 2016. We expect to see big things.

[House] 909 Til Infinity – Don’t Clock Me Out EP

The Los Angeles and Denver house heads 909 Til Infinity dish out their second EP with Don’t Clock Me Out. These two minimal creators have already made a splash in the scene, as separate acts, as well as one already scoring big premieres with outlets like THUMP and Dancing Astronaut. Today, we share with you their two track project that is making waves with its down-to-Earth sound.

Don’t Clock Me Out is a clubber’s dream come true. “Do That” starts things off with hypnotic beats that will mesmerize listeners into a dance trance. Despite their not being too much going on, the duo keeps up the energy and playfulness so that there’s never a dull moment in the song. Next, the title track comes to us with a bit more liveliness than the previous track. The sounds are very old school, paying homage to the classic records that came out in the early 2000’s and 90’s that these two certainly were influenced by, or grew up on. Psycho Disco released this EP, which is currently available on iTunes.

[Breakbeat] Jackal x Dr. Fresch – Netflix N Kill

Buygore has no shortage of bangers. Neither do Jackal or Dr. Fresch who teamed up for the Buygore record “Netflix N Kill.” Right off the bat, you know you’re in for something special with this song. The introduction goes by in a flash, despite it’s generally average length of a minute, and then you are met with a savage drop that takes the best parts of several styles and puts them together in one composition. With a screeching synth, some bass growls and crafty percussion, these producers put together a complete beast. Live, I can only imagine what kind of destruction this causes to a crowd. Whether you are a dancer, or just a headbanger, “Netflix N Kill” is the track for you. With the second drop, they switch things up for a bit by cutting time on the percussion to bring some trapstyle vibes that make for a nice shift in energy. You’re gonna want to get a copy of this from Beatport, 100%.

The Chill Dojo #169

A pair of beautiful vocal covers welcomes Dojo #169, as one of our favorites in Mark Johns casts her creative flair into that iconic song from Amy Winehouse. She’s dug into the archives for the beat as well, selecting this gorgeous soundscape from Tennyson’s long list of blissful works to operate as the perfect backing to her dreamy lyrical style. It’s a fitting tribute to a musical figure who had a powerful influence on so many. Nobody could doubt the fame that Drake now commands, but for those that miss his classic material, the ever-imaginative duo PRXZM have brought something fresh to ‘I’m on 1′. There’s no need to assume the gangster stance for this one, because this glorious cocktail of melodic future sounds and soothing female vocals are all about carefree celebration. So feel free to belt out this chorus no matter what street cred you carry.

Still on that vocal addiction this week, LissA is a name that’s been across a stack of amazing chill music lately, and she follows up her string of stunning releases with ‘Zimt’. Mazde brings his German influence in both title and production, weaving a silky atmosphere that seems only appropriate for song named after cinnamon. The sensual flavor is hard to resist, as each new verse sprinkles more and more vibes with delicate ease. But this edition’s greatest surprise is still yet to come, as we uncover a brilliant musical mind from Malaysia who has crafted an unbelievable union of old and new. Darren Ashley’s ‘Good Morning’ is as it would suggest, the best possible way to start your day. Though the future bass style has well and truly established itself in the current scene, it’s nowhere near the point of creative exhaustion, as the breathtaking addition of Eastern inspiration carves out a whole new territory that is yet to be explored. It’s tracks like this that are the reason of our journey to find new music each and every day.

The search is much easier for you though. Just hit play and enjoy! Peace out.

[Dance] Sloane Peterson – Flashback

It’s become a bit of a theme for this writer’s Fridays to involve those choice dance records that actually required a bit of digging to get to. And with that, we’ve unearthed yet another gem for your underground listening pleasure from genre-eschewing, Denver based producer Sloane Peterson (who by the way has one of the best, nostalgia inducing monikers anywhere in music). Quietly, the young beat maestro has been making waves in his backyard opening for the likes of TMN regulars like Cashmere Cat, Thomas Jack, Sam Feldt, Carmada, Stelouse, Shiba San and more; but its the wunderkind’s constantly evolving, shapeshifting productions which have grabbed our attention so handily.

We’ve had our ears to Sloane Peterson’s bustling sound for a while now, through his L.A. based duo DirtyTalks, along with a few appearances in various TMN Playlists; and with every passing record, we’ve become increasingly drawn in. The latest, and very appropriately titled tune to emanate from Sloane Peterson, “Flashback”, reveals yet another piece to an exciting production puzzle. Scooting out to a breezy stride on the heels of a thumpy four-four kick and bating pad work, “Flashback” quickly hops into what we can only describe as a melodic synthesis of underground sensibility, executed through the lens of a contemporary artist that got a hold of Deadmau5’s 2009 sound kit. A heady comparison indeed, we know. “Flashback” pushes and pulls its listener back and forth from places of past sentimentality to the swampy, underground dancefloors of present-day; which all results in a simultaneous feeling of both already knowing, and currently discovering. But, as we’ve long since passed this writer’s self-imposed 200-word limit, we’ll just let Sloane Peterson’s production do the talking. Enjoy “Flashback” above.

[Festival Preview] Noise Pop Festival 2016–SF, 2/19-2/28

np2016-admat_fullNoise Pop 2016 is quickly approaching, beginning this week, February 19th, and ending nine days later on February 28th. Following San Francisco’s anointment as Super Bowl City on January 30th, the city was the center of the American sports world for nearly 2 weeks. Now, as those ceremonies are winding down, excitement regarding a more local-grown type of entertainment will be ratcheting up. Noise Pop has outdone itself in 2016, bringing one of the boldest and most impressive lineups in its prestigious history.

We were lucky enough to chat with Chad Heimann, the sole talent buyer for Noise Pop, so you’ll find some of what he had to say sprinkled through out this preview. Badges are still available for purchase here.

Reaching out [to potential artists] starts in the fall; once the initial announce is released, more artists come in waves once they see the announcements. Prospecting for performers is a process from early November until the first week of February.” – Chad, sole talent buyer for Noise Pop.

In order to understand the position Noise Pop Festival has found itself in as of 2016, fans need a pseudo-history lesson. Noise Pop started as an independent, grassroots effort to promote up-and-coming artists in the city by the bay, culminating in the birth of the Festival in 1993.

Building the festival from scratch is a lengthy process. It’s a mix of reaching out and seeing who is active and touring, as well as building a wish list with the staff. Even if they aren’t touring, certain bands might be interested in joining.” – Chad

LesSins_TheNewParish_022615_JustinYee-11Les Sins aka Toro y Moi at The New Parish, Noise Pop 2015 (Photo by Justin Yee)

In its early iterations, the festival was a modest show, featuring 5 acts in a primarily rock influenced, 1 night setup. Improving on its success, the following year saw its expansion to a 3-day performance, headquartered at Bottom of the Hill. On the ten-year anniversary, the format had expanded to 6 days, 9 venues, and over 100 artists.

Our motto is ‘championing independent culture since 1993’. Regardless of genre we are championing independent music from independent producers. In the last few years especially we have enjoyed not just ‘college rock’ but all independent culture… it’s a self described festival for self described music nerds.” – Chad

DSC_0215Slow Magic at 1015 Folsom, Noise Pop 2015

In its increasing popularity and scope, Noise Pop added both a film and art series – multimedia channels that have not been incorporated by any other local festivals – to its progressive lineup. In making these various exhibits more accessible, Noise Pop attendees receive a badge that allows access to any or all of the events scheduled for the quickly approaching 9-day gala. Serving as a west coast version of the world-renowned SXSW, Noise Pop has become a treat for all of the senses.

From where we are now, in our 24th year, it has been an impressive journey. The first show was 5 bands for $5 for one night only. It has expanded to a festival that champions not only music but also film and art shows from local and international [exhibitionists].” – Chad

Operating under the same ownership as Treasure Island Music Festival, Noise Pop prides itself on having a well-rounded lineup that honors its tradition, booking artists approaching their peak instead of relying on the heavily recycled names booked by major mainstream festivals. Using this formula, Noise Pop has become the premier indie music and arts festival of the Bay Area. Enjoy the festive, energetic atmosphere around the city beginning this week, and be sure to check out the venues and artists below.

[Electronic Pop] SIVIK – Time

“Time” is the second promotional track from SIVIK’s forthcoming EP, Winter Collection. In a typical fashion, the singer’s vocal melodies and lyrics fit the song’s composition and production perfectly. If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out the leading single, “Last Night.” But here’s a little bit of background on inspirations for the artist’s latest, “Time” written by SIVIK himself.

‘Time’ is a song about ex-lovers that remain friends…I’m sure there are many who can relate. I mean, I hope I’m not the only one! Even tho present day you may only be friends, there are those times when old feelings emerge and that spark may still linger on occasion. So basically this song is about giving into that moment again, going “back in time” to where the relationship was good. However, at the end of it all, thats it…we are just friends and better off that way. But damn sometimes it feels right!

You can stream “Time” above and be on the lookout for SIVIK’s full, Winter Collection EP coming out later this month.

[Future] Electric Mantis – Daybreak

Future beats producer, Electric Mantis, has had quite the year. From remixing artists like Giraffage and Gramatik, to putting out an original EP, the rising producer shows 0 signs of slowing down. As one of Majestic’s first releases, he’s unveiled “Daybreak”, a dynamic production that leaves me wanting more. Hit play and enjoy. And check out what Majestic has to say about their new imprint.

Majestic Color is our new series of free to use music — from creators for creators. You can use Majestic Color tracks for your YouTube videos without having to worry about copyright issues. We want to challenge today’s status quo of the music industry who protect their property from “infringers”. We in contrast believe that music should be accessible for everyone.

Why the name Majestic Color? Well, we believe in the variety of music, that listening to music should be something free of boundaries. Every color has its own unique voice. Just like every of the music pieces we release.

In Memory of Viola Beach

The past few months have been nothing short of devastating for music lovers around the globe. From the attacks at the Bataclan back in November to losing legends like Bowie, Lemmy, Glen Frey, and Maurice White, it seems that we’re in a strange section of time where this art form is suffering from loss after loss at an alarming rate.

As you’re already aware, we hadn’t posted anything about any of those losses, as it’s not something we typically do. We don’t write about industry news, choosing to embrace new music that intrigues and excites us. Our hope is simple – we want to continue that life-long infatuation with music, and we do so through sharing our discoveries with you.

Today, we’re stepping outside our norm. Or, rather, I am.

Last August, I was introduced to a sensational new act and their debut single, “Swings and Waterslides.” It came to us from a PR firm that always brings sensational new artists our way, so it already had an alluring glow about it.

I know The Music Ninja are big fans of Lisbon and this band are very similar; it’s the debut single from Warrington indie pop four-piece Viola Beach called ‘Swings and Waterslides’. – Supercat PR 8/18

The song instantly latched on with its playful guitar work, catchy hooks, and summery, feel-good vibes. I immediately accepted the offer, becoming the online premiere partner for the debut song from Viola Beach. From there, the song played over and over again at TMN HQ, so much so that I listed it as one of our favorite songs from 2015. Keep in mind, I could only choose 15 songs, so you can start to get the idea of how influenced I was by just a single track from this budding young band.

We kept in touch with the band’s publicist and manager closely, covering both of their next songs, “Cherry Vitmo” and “Boys That Sing.” With each release, we could feel the band picking up momentum, showcasing a next-level amount of talent that was set to cross over into the US by way of SXSW.

This last weekend, things took a tragic, heart-wrenching, and deeply saddening turn. Members Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin and manager Craig Tarry passed away after a car accident in Sweden. The news came to us on a comment on our premiere, as fans scoured the internet, leaving their condolences wherever they could.

To say the least, we all were deeply affected by this. As bloggers, we feel a direct connection with the artists we write about, especially when they’re just emerging onto the scene. In a way, it feels like you’re a part of their team, quietly cheering them on from behind a glowing laptop screen. While we had never met in person, nor had spoken on the phone, there’s still this lingering feeling. In all honesty, it’s one of the reasons why we all keep doing this. It’s our tie to the bands we love and the industry we cherish.

All five of these young men had a tremendous career in front of them, boasting both the swagger and polish of a well-seasoned act. You only need a few listens through their handful of releases to know that their gift was cut far too short, leaving the world with a sizeable hole in its music-loving heart.

We highly encourage you to dive in and celebrate their music in whatever medium you’d like, whether it be here, on Soundcloud, Spotify, or iTunes. If you’d like to take your support to the next level, you can purchase Swings & Waterslides and help move them up the popular chart. Each purchase brings them closer to a #1 spot, introducing more and more people to the music they worked so hard on, and were so passionate about.

Until we see you on the other side, thank you for your contributions Kris, River, Tomas, Jack and Craig. We’ll cherish these songs dearly, holding the joy they bring us close to our hearts each and every time we listen.

Shannon McNally

pop-rock // country

Wilting on a cold cave floor, paintings on walls. Glimmer of light in distant sound. Close to me ears, far from my years. Unknown memory inside me stirs; awakens. Caress my heart? Open my mind? In a way notes were and weren’t meant for. Disrupting my measure of sorrow. Curiousity in my betrayed hope. The soul of Southern blues rocking my gritty New York street. Moving me to country charm boyhood and back through. Holding a glimpse of joy in hands worn and torn.

A new world for me.

[Indie-Dance] KOLAJ – 100 Degrees (ft. Quinn XCII)

Although KOLAJ hasn’t even been a group for a year, we’ve long been fans of theirs. Since their start, they’ve already amassed a strong following, been billed for shows, and collaborated with Kaskade. Pretty good track record if you ask us. Now, they are adding to their collection with another solid record, this time with Quinn XCII called “100 Degrees.”

This indie-dance meets pop record is another example of why KOLAJ is a need to know act. When these two end up on the radio, it will be no surprise as songs like this have been coming out of their camp since the beginning, however this may just be their best yet. It takes from several genres for a perfectly balanced mixture of sounds. As always, the vocals are on point, and the instrumental is out of this world. It’s only a matter of time before these two take over, so you better get with the program before everyone is already on board.

Army of the Universe – Acid Flows (Gosteffects Remix) [TMN Premiere]

One of the most intriguing dance music producers to me has always been Gosteffects. His dark and energetic tracks are right where my taste aligns, but not only that, he’s an incredibly talented producer who can take the sound anywhere he wishes. Take for example the present premiere we have with the New York producer. His official remix of “Acid Flows” by Army of the Universe, has him turning down the bpms in the midtempo range for an electro-infused moombah masterpiece.

With this style, Dillon Francis always comes up, but Gosteffects makes it his own. He stays true to the hypnotic style of the original, while taking the sound to a completely different sonic region altogether. This new version of “Acid Flows” is an absolute bomb that would terrorize any setting it was dropped into, no matter if it were a big festival, a club or even a house party. It’s one of those tracks that’s good no matter where you hear it. Gosteffect’s remix will be released on The Magic EP + Remixes, which is currently available for pre-order on iTunes. If you don’t want to pre-order, you just have to wait until February 19th for the project to drop in full.

JR JR Steps Up to Help Families in Flint [Cadence & Cause]

If you haven’t noticed, we’ve been highlighting our friends over at Cadence & Cause for the past few weeks. Shift your eyes over to either side of the page and you’ll see what we’re talking about. If you’re still confused, just know this – they’re an online platform that connects musicians and their fans to worthy charities.

As we continue our support for their initiative, we’re eager to spread the word about their latest campaign. We’re going to go ahead and assume you’ve heard of JR JR, formerly Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr. If you haven’t, we’ve curated a selection of our favorite songs in a handy playlist below.

Enchanting music and amazing live performances aside, today is all about what they’re doing to help with the Flint water crisis. To help fundraise for the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, members Joshua Epstein & Daniel Zott have combed through years of memorabilia for a number of incredible sweepstakes through Cadence & Cause. On the top of our personal wish list is the hand-painted stone blazer from the music video of favorite JR JR tune, “If You Didn’t See Me (Then You Weren’t On the Dancefloor).

In addition to that extremely rare piece of memorabilia, the band is offering up a bevy of other collectables, including the sax used to record their first two albums, a massive JR stage prop, sweaters from a photo shoot, and tour-worn NASCAR jackets. All you have to do to enter to win is contribute the minimum contribution.

As concerned ninjas, music lovers, and fans of JR JR, we strongly encourage you to head over and contribute. Each time you do, you’ll be helping families in Flint who are dealing with this incredible hardship.

[House] Ferreck Dawn – Sweet Desperation feat. Kelli Leigh [TMN Premiere]

It’s been a while since we last checked in with Dutch house stalwart Ferreck Dawn, and the time in between has more than fueled our fire to once again consume his tasteful club sound with our fellow Ninjas. This time around, Ferreck Dawn makes a very welcome debut on hallowed Italian house imprint D:VISION Records along with Kelli Leigh (whose voice you may recognize from Duke Dumont’s global smash “I Got U” & Dawn’s most notable single “Love Too Deep”), “Sweet Desperation”. “Sweet Desperation” features Leigh’s distinctively soulful, R&B-inflected reverberations over what has become Dawn’s signature aesthetic of thumping bass swells & anthemic, melody-driven production; clearly wielding the makings for what could very possibly be another world-sweeping club hit. Already, “Sweet Desperation” has been receiving a huge wave of artist support from heavyweight TMN favorites including Kokiri, Vanilla Ace, & Benny Benassi, and if those names aren’t enough to stoke your proverbial fire, it’s got our TMN stamp of approval all over it. We’ve not been able to shake Dawn’s latest entrancing and deep house soundscape since first listen. Do your ears a favor and join us.

Be on the lookout for Ferreck Dawn’s official “Sweet Desperation” release through most digital retailers on February 29th, but until then, stream Ferreck Dawn’s “Sweet Desperation” as a shiny new ‘TMN Premiere’ above.

[Festival Preview] Paradise Lost – Jamaica – 3/10 – 3/12

4356170

Since the end of last summer, the collective music community has been looking forward to this time of year – festival announcements drop, tickets go on sale, travel arrangements are made, group texts are created for planning, and the excitement grows with each passing day. It’s festival season, baby!

As we’ve come to see, more and more interesting event locations have popped up throughout the years. From cruises to remote locations, it seems like promoters are always looking for new ways to take the entire experience to the next level. Since a good population of millennials are opting for these events in lieu of traditional vacations, why not combine the two? That’s exactly what we have here with Paradise Lost.

This is a dream come true, we love electronic music, it is a part of us. I plan to drop the bass so hard Cuba will feel it. This is my shot we finally have a festival at home and we need it. I think I can speak for all the DJs in Jamaica. We are ready to take on the world and Paradise Lost will be our foundation. This is our event, our country and I will make Jamaica proud on Thursday, March 10 – Fyah Starter

Taking place in one of the most visited islands in the Carribean, this experience promises the best of both worlds.
