Tansu – These Things [TMN DEBUT PREMIERE]

It’s Friday, which means you probably need a healthy groove to help escort you into a (hopefully) lengthy holiday weekend. My suggestion? How about some big, driving kick drums, pronounced claps, and some eye-opening vocals from a stellar new act?

If you’re nodding your head in approval, which, I fully expect you are, it’s probably time you press play and get a proper introduction to Tansu. With a bigger-than-life vocal presence, this brand new indie pop act could easily shake up the the scene.

Another shiny, shimmering product of the illustrious Berklee College of Music, Turkish-born, London-raised Tansu is everything we love about pop, without what makes us cringe. Hand-crafted lyrics, carefully poured over with production from LITTLE PLANET MUSIC aka Dave Rublin (American Authors) are true, heartfelt, and easy to get into to. At times, it has calls on associations of monster acts, mainly X Ambassadors and Lorde, yet it comes without the army of a major label, which is damn impressive.

Keep your eyes and ears open for more from Tansu. We have a feeling that you’ll be hearing more and more about her very soon.

Meadowlark – Family Tree (ROOMS Remix) [TMN PREMIERE]

Alright. I’m looking for my heady ninjas right now. If your idea of a solid weekend night is skipping the crowds, sippin’ on some high-end hooch, maybe partaking in a delightful strain of Sativa, and relaxing the night away at home, I have just the track for you.

Ditch the downtown crowds and get lost in the latest offering from Miami Based Record Label/Fashion House Bribery Corporation. This slice of their Sophomore compilation boasts work from one of our favorite up-and-coming artists, LA-based ROOMS.

In this new rendition of the gorgeous, piano-driven, vocal gem “Family Tree,” ROOMS has spun up a encapsulating soundscape while still expertly connecting us to what we loved from Meadowlark’s original piece. The vocals are still as haunting as ever, coupled with instrumental aspects from before, they’re just chopped up, twisted around, and laid out with an engaging tempo that should have you hooked throughout.

[News] The Mile High City’s Nightlife Scene is Getting an Upgrade

I’ve had the ultimate pleasure of witnessing the evolution of Denver’s nightlife scene over the past 17 years. From the 16+ nights at the old Trax location, to the continual growth of dance music pillars like The Church, Beta, and Vinyl, to all of the “not-to-be-named” underground shows, I’ve truly seen it all.

Over the past few years, as the Mile High City has exploded with implants from all across the country and world, I’ve been anticipating the arrival of a new player in the game. And, according to my sources, that day has come. While the details are murky, at best, all accounts are pointing to a well-established nightlife group out of the Bay Area moving into a long-term lease somewhere in downtown Denver. The club promises to bring a level of production on par with other top-notch dance destinations, complete with world class talent, in an effort to redefine the growing landscape of places to get your groove on.

Stay tuned for more details. This is something you won’t want to miss out on.

Lune – Healing Song (We Are I.V Remix) [TMN Premiere]

Summer is here and so are a whole lot of great tunes from talented artists. One of those tracks is by We Are I.V. Today we are giving you a first listen to their remix of “Healing Song” by Lune.

Upbeat, vibrant and ever so danceable, this remix is hotter than the Summer season it was released in. Along with the song comes a simple video to accompany it, so you’re not only getting a first listen, but a first viewing. The French foursome really know how to flip a track, so check it out and enjoy!

[Music Video] Sean Paul – Get Busy (Venessa Michaels Remix)

It’s quite rare to see an artist come out with an entire EP of remixes, but that’s just what VenessaMichaels has at the ready. To tease her highly anticipated Now That’s What I Call 2090 EP, she’s delivered a fun music video for her take on “Get Busy” by Sean Paul. If you like big butts and you cannot lie, then this music video is just for you.

Aside from the music video, she’s released the track early as a free download for fans to get before the entire EP drops soon. With the music video, there’s a whole lot of ladies with luchador masks, but instead of wrestling, they’re shaking their butts all over the place, even all over Venessa! Check out the video below and share this one around to your fellow booty-lovers.

Warden feat. Sisterwife – Carpe the DM’s [TMN Video Premiere]

Today we have something straight out of left field for you. “Carpe the DM’s” by Warden and Sisterwife is here in both audio and visual formats. Both have a wacky tone that just isn’t for everybody, but when you just let loose and enjoy them, they’re entertaining as can be.

The video parodies a few different things and is akin to the humor pushed by Tim & Eric. If you like the outrageous, then “Carpe the DM’s” is right up your alley like it is ours. The song is a masterful bass track that shares the videos quirkiness. Together they’re a project unparalleled by most and we have the honor of sharing them with you first in this premiere! If you like what you are hearing, go ahead and pre-order the single from iTunes.

[Trap] Tascione & TYNVN – Deeper Love (Olly Remix)

Chances are high that you are unfamiliar with Olly. Why? The Orange County producer has less than 500 followers on Soundcloud, but not because a lack of talent. With only a handful of tracks having been released over the past six months, Olly is in the very beginning of what could be a great career in bass music. Just take the remix of “Deeper Love” by Tascione & TYNVN as evidence of that.

Olly went hard on this one. The original was hype; a great trap record that came in at over 200K plays on SC alone, so taking it on isn’t easy. That didn’t matter as Olly smashed this flip for a song that could easily be played out by the biggest names in the business. It’s one of those gems that only comes along on rare occasion, a special find that deserves to be shared with as many people as possible. We’ve shared it with you, now you share it elsewhere!

[Hip-Hop] avery shyra – Pardon Me

Pardon me, but we have something to share with you today. “Pardon Me” from avery shyra dropped as a free download on Litt Music and you need to have it. The hip-hop heater is just the track you need in your Summer playlists this year.

“Pardon Me” is not your typical rap tune as it employs a poppy R&B tone that makes the song stand out. We’ve already hailed avery as someone to lookout for and with the new release, nothing changes. In fact, if anything does, it’s that the urge to get on the avery shyra train is more urgent now than ever. He’s a talented artist that’s putting out great accessible work in the hip-hop realm. With so many people pushing to sound a certain way, it’s nice to hear someone doing their own thing.

[House] SWEDUM – Summer State Of Mind

Given the time of year, “Summer State Of Mind” is what people are all about. The sun is shining, the heat wave is at our door and the pools are opening. SWEDUM’s new single embodies all of that and more. With an upbeat instrumental and a catchy vocal, “Summer State Of Mind” is the house track of the season.

From the very first notes you’ll see just how jolly this tune is. Vibrant piano chords lead the charge alongside a vocal that you’ll be singing until Fall rolls in. SWEDUM went all out for the first release, which means we can be sure more is to come soon. After hearing this, you’ll be just as excited as we are for more. “Summer State Of Mind” has been released through Tenacity Records, so it is currently available on digital services.

[Music Video] Julie Bergan – If You Love Me (feat. Tunji Ige)

If there’s one thing you should know we love in the dojo, it would be Julie Bergan. Everyone has a soft spot for good pop music, even if they won’t admit it to themselves, and Julie’s got the best brand of it out there. Time and time again she’s wooed us with great tracks and she’s done it again with her song “If You Love Me” featuring Tunji Ige.

“If You Love Me” just dropped on streaming services and there is a music video for it to get your mouth-watering for the full release. Part of Julie’s appeal is that her music isn’t just the usual lifeless teen garbage that gets slapped in your ear a million times until you kind of sort of like it. From the get go it has depth and a dynamic tone that sets it apart from everything else. The same goes for this new single. It follows a more traditional pop structure than some of her other works, but still remains a pillar standing tall. With the music video, we’re just going to let you dive right in and get the full experience.

from The Music Ninja http://ift.tt/2sZd2C2

[R&B/Pop] Nylo – Time Changes Everything

There is a reason that Nylo has been endorsed by the likes of Nas, ZHU, G-Eazy and more. She’s talented, like more than your average. The singer/songwriter/producer has a new track out that will show you just why she’s received praise from such high individuals. “Time Changes Everything” is that track, out now on independently popular.

Inspired by saddening events in her life, Nylo’s deep emotions are easily accessible through her magnificent performance. “Time Changes Everything” is Nylo’s own brand of R&B, with pop sensibilities, but not POP enough to be branded that. It certainly does pop though, as anything packed with this much raw emotion will do. Nylo is a true artist and now it’s her turn to shine all on her own. If you like “Time Changes Everything” as much as we do, we suggest you get a copy from iTunes.

[Indie Dance] LCAW – Nobody Else But You

“Nobody Else But You” is the newest single from Germany’s LCAW. Thanks to Ultra Records this indie dance treat has come to the world, so if you’re into it we suggest you support it on digital services. Trust us, you’re going to want to after you listen.

LCAW takes inspiration from his childhood on this, expressing the precious innocence and wonder of being young, untouched by the pains of age and adulthood. “Nobody Else But You” has a face that is a bit groovy and upbeat, but is more than just a nice song to listen to. It’s a song that will bring you back to a more pure time and raise within you feelings that have been lost as time has passed. Stream it today and don’t forget to get a copy!

[Indie/Electronic] Autumn In June – MAGENTA LP

The ever so talented Autumn In June has an album out. If that doesn’t excite you, the only reason for it would be that you don’t know AIJ. If that’s the case, today we enlighten you and if you’re already familiar, then the MAGENTA LP will just increase your love for the LA musician.

Released independently, MAGENTA totals in twelve songs with no collaborators listed. It’s all Autumn In June and it’s all incredible. You don’t see a lot of independents releasing albums these days, and when they do a lot of the time things don’t feel entirely cohesive. That’s not the case with MAGENTA as each song plays off the others to create a full fledged aural picture that is dynamic and beautiful. It’s a project you don’t break up into singles, it’s one you just click play on and experience.

[Future Bass] SLANDER – Superhuman feat. Eric Leva

Not sure what it is about this festival season but SLANDER is bringing out all the stops. After the release of their Halsey remix just a couple of weeks ago, they’re back with an original work. “Superhuman” featuring Eric Leva has come through the Monstercat pipeline.

“Superhuman” lives up to the name, as well as the context of its release through one of the most popular dance music labels of all time. The track sees the duo branching further into the future bass sound, one that’s a bit less hype-focused than a lot of their works. They bring the feels on this, showing even more range. If you would like a copy of the track, get it on the digital service of your choosing today.

[Ghoul Pop] Soul Bandit – 3-4-9

If there’s one aspect of an artist that electronic music fans love, it’s a mysterious producer known only to the world through their Soundcloud tracks and elusive social media posting. For those of you who aren’t already in-tune with today’s offering, we’re, of course, bringing you a taste of LA-based artist Soul Bandit.

In just over a month, Soul Bandit has been quietly releasing new music with two singles out on her Soundcloud, and listed below, for your listening pleasures. A quick recap of both songs shows the ability to capture a wide variety of electronic music palettes. Her internet debut “Mad Prophet” is a warm, electropop-like production that makes you immediately want to jump on that beach trip this weekend, while her second single, “Afraid” offers listeners a dreamer’s out-of-body, listening experience.

Her latest release, “3-4-9”, opens with a darker, dystopian tone. Post-apocalyptic and bleak, Soul Bandit drops her introduction off with a break-beat rhythm, driven with a heavy 808-kick and eerie bells and claps. A mesmerizingly, despondent vocal chimes in to give the tune a fuller experience as it chants an inexplicable mantra over and over again. Compared to her other two productions, Soul Bandit focuses more on percussion elements; crisp hats, meaty claps, and steady, pulsating kick that will leave you in an empty awe when you the song start to fade out and ending.

3-4-9 isn’t a typical track for me. I grew up speaking 3 languages (Russian at home, Hebrew and English at school). So to me 3-4-9 was meant to be a bizarre, dark, nonsensical, dance track that’s a tribute to how strange it is growing up in a cultural cauldron. My sound choices for this track and for the majority of my others tend to be a bit jarring and even unsettling at times, but they’re representative of the unpredictabilities and oddities of life and death.

HAMi Stops By The Dojo To Talk Bass Music, Skateboarding & 40oz Cult [TMN Interview]

Most producers were something before they were making money as a music producer. Most weren’t professional skateboarders, but for HAMi that was the case. Before heading up 40oz Cult with Dack Janiels and Wenzday and making bass-heavy hits, HAMi was shredding along as an official member of Emerica. Now instead of traveling the world with a board, he’s taken up traveling with some new equipment.

HAMi stopped by the dojo just before the release of his new song, a collaboration with UZZI called “Go Hard” that lives up to its name. We got to talking about his past as a skateboarder, the parallels between the skating and dance music scenes, as well as how he made the switch from one to the other. Enjoy listening to “Go Hard” while you read through HAMi’s in-depth responses. When you’re done, grab “Go Hard” for free!

TMN: How did you end up making the move from professional skating to making music?

Let’s start by saying I grew up in Las Vegas, my skater friends and I would spin vinyl when it was too hot to skate outside. I also had a few friends who were older and they would go to these warehouse parties, sadly at the time I was too young to go but still tagged along. I remember sneaking into these parties by hopping barbed wire fences, so that was the beginning. Fast forward to 2009, I was on a “Emerica” Skate tour called “The Wild Ride”, we rode motorcycles across the states, camping, skating, etc, long story short, I crashed my bike going 50mph and broke my clavicle and shattered my scapula along with a head injury and a tons of other random scrapes and bruises. I was now bedridden for 2 months.

After that, I had to go through physical therapy for an additional 8 weeks. Around this time I pick up my first laptop, I always knew skating wouldn’t last forever so at this point I came to realize I needed a new passion. Music has always been a major part of my life, even before skating, so with that being said I knew music would keep me the happiest and passionate overall for the rest of my life. I didn’t know that at the time, so I just continued to pursue skateboarding. During that time I also was trying to develop a sound as a musician on the side, playing guitar writing hooks and verses. Once I had that down I needed a way to record it, so I started using “garageband” to record my song, and out of necessity I learned how to build a drum beat.

It wasn’t until 2011-12 when I was gifted an All-Access pass to Coachella, and I witnessed Caspa and Skrillex, mind you I had no idea what dubstep was at this time but all I kept thinking was these people are killing their sets, and that was when my life changed. I became obsessed with all forms of Dance Music diving as deep as I couple possibly go, primarily drawn to the raw energy that Dubstep carried naturally. From there all I did was funnel my passion for skating into my music.

TMN: Can you tell us a little about 40oz Cult and who else is involved?

So 40oz Cult issa CULT! Dack Janiels, Wenzday, and myself are the forces behind the scene. Its an open format Collective/ Label/ Clothing brand (comprised of professional skaters, artist, graphic designers, filmers, photographers), with a background in skateboarding. We go about treating the CULT like a traditional skate company, we are a in-house family and friends operated organization. Honestly it’s for all the people out there that choose to be the oddball, people that choose to make moves when people say it’s a bad idea, for the individual that follows their gut.

TMN: Your collab with UZZI just dropped, how did that come to fruition?

So, we both just had releases on the Buygore Fresh Blood Vol. 2 and during the anticipation to the release we had a super thread that we would all coordinate post and what not. I just reached out to everyone involved and passed around my music, and the UZZI boys (Melo and Geoff) were equally as enthused as I was to get a collab going, and from there on out it flowed easy. S/O UZZI! Go check them out they’re definitely a force to be reconned with!

TMN: Who are some other artists you would want to collaborate with?

This is a tricky question only because there are so many amazing artists I would love to collab with! Skrillex, Datsik, Excision, Borgore, Getter, Flux Pavillion, CASPA, RUSKO, 12th planet, Ghastly, NGHTMRE, Funtcase, Protohype, The Frim, Barely Alive, Virtual Riot, Dubloadz, Trollphace, P0gman, Bloodthinnerz, Yakz, Svdden Death, Half Empty, Uber, Subtronics just to name a few.

TMN: Are there any parallels between dance music culture and skating culture?

Yes, most definitely they are both a pool of talented Individuals that chose to do something out of the norm. They have taken a chance to pursue their passion, and by doing so pushing the craft into places no one could ever foresee. I speak for everyone, not just the artists, but the promoters, managers, agents, TM‘S, pyro guys, sound guys, any and everyone involved.

TMN: What do you see coming in the near future for dance music?

So in my opinion dance music is just really getting started, I’m really proud and excited to see what come out in the next 5 years, now that there’s an influx of really intelligent and creative people that have access to unlimited amount of information. History has a tendency to repeats itself, but in this case, the sky’s the limit!

TMN: What’s to come from HAMi this Summer and Fall?

So currently I’ve been in the studio non-stop! I have 6 unreleased bangers that I plan to release this year… Not including collabs with Yakz, Cosma, Goldplate, Swage and Dack Janiels!!

First up is my latest single “Draco” which is dropping on July 11th, 2017 via Bigtooth Records. Keep your eyes and ears open for that one! Catch me in LA as well! I will be playing in July, date is TBD but I promise you it’s going to be LIT! Stay tune for upcoming tour dates in your area!

Panic City & CLB – Get Higher [TMN Premiere]

It’s time for us to “Get Higher” in the dojo. Today in this Music Ninja Premiere we’ve got the sauce for you. From the Bay to Chicago we have a collaboration between Panic City and CLB. If groovy house music is your thing, then “Get Higher” will be your thing.

Panic City and CLB won’t disappoint with this one. It does exactly as it says with its intoxicating grooves that will get your body moving. Good club music isn’t as sought after as it once was because of the hype centered around festivals, especially during this time of year, but that doesn’t phase “Get Higher” one bit. It’s a record that goes down smooth any where, but focuses in on the underground club sounds that brought dance music to the point it’s at today. Stream your exclusive first listen of “Get Higher” and enjoy!

TNRTLE – Clouds [TMN PREMIERE]

If I ever find myself at the question, “where can I go for a non-stop, funkalicious dance party in Denver,” I look no further than TNERTLE’s tour schedule. This 6-8 piece (depending on the track) electro-funk outfit always brings the heat to whatever venue is lucky enough to have them, most of which happen to fall right here, in the Mile High City.

Praise the dance gods for that.

I’ve had the pleasure of covering TNERTLE’s live and recorded music in the past, always presenting it to you guys with a beaming grin, and feet ready to dance out a jig on a moment’s notice. Today’s no different, as you get a taste of their upcoming Monsters Out West EP. True to its name, this collection offers up four massive tunes, featuring big, shiny brass sections, carefully laid out synths, and a myriad of different vocalists that all come together for the sake of getting down.

“Clouds” was a standout for me, personally–an absolutely huge tune that already has me revved up and ready to go for the weekend. It’s just too damn bad it’s only Tuesday. Oh well. We’ll just have to settle with some desk dancing’ until Friday peeks its sweet, sunny face above the horizon.

[Indie/Electronic] Stalgia – Spirit Animal

If Stalgia isn’t on your radar, then take your radar and restart it with Stalgia at the top. The LA duo has only been around with this project for less than a year, but they’ve already managed to turn heads and sway listeners all across the world.

“Spirit Animal” is their latest single, a soothing indie meets electronic expression inspired by a lullaby from one of the member’s childhood. There is a certain hypnotic vibe to this song that echoes the essence of a lullaby. It whisks you away out of this world into a relaxed state where the worries of the world cannot reach you. “Spirit Animal” is a special record, so don’t be stingy and keep this one for yourself; rather, share it around with your friends and family so they don’t make the mistake of sleeping on Stalgia.

[Jungle Terror] Fight Clvb – Savage EP

Fun fact, when I first got into the music industry, my very first interview was with Stephen Vasquez who has now become Fight Clvb alongside the hypest of hype men Mystereo. Back before Fight Clvb, Stephen was just as humble as he is today, putting hard work first and disregarding fame and recognition. Since then Fight Clvb became what it is today and now the duo has another EP, this time released through the Barong Family.

The Savage EP is just that, savage. Complete with three originals and a VIP, the Savage EP is a pillar for jungle terror. The latin/tribal sensibilities it has have always been something Stephen has managed to implement well into his works, which comes as no surprise when you know he was 1/2 of Sazon Booya. In running through this EP, it’s not easy at all to pick a favorite as each song is major and the list of collaborations including Bunji Garlin and Clinton Sly is phenomenal. Best part is each track can be downloaded for free. You’re welcome.

[Future Bass] Adventure Club – Breathe feat. SONDAR (Indiginis Remix)

Indiginis is back with another smash hit remix. Released as a free download, their take on “Breathe” by Adventure Club is a major Summer remix that we’ll be jamming out to even when the sun is hidden from view when Fall comes.

“Breathe” in its Indiginis form is a timeless tune whose next level future bass sound has quite the lengthy shelf life, even when you blast it on repeat. Indiginis has quickly rose to the top of our list of of favorite acts because of the unique tone they bring. It’s an identity that’s all their own, yet it feels familiar to us like we’ve been listening to them since childhood. Look out for Indiginis to make a huge splash as the year moves forward.

[Electronic] TOKiMONSTA – Don’t Call Me feat. Yuna

“Don’t Call Me” by TOKiMONSTA is one of the sweetest singles of the year. Not sweet in the cutie patootie loving way, but sweet in its own unique sense. Together with Yuna, TOKiMONSTA created a deep and celestial record that will touch the hearts of many.

“Don’t Call Me” portrays a scenario many of us have found ourselves in before. TOKiMONSTA always manages to create emotional soundscapes that echo the mood of the song’s lyrics to perfection. Her ability to conjure specific emotions, even when the emotional landscape she’s painting in her music is complex, is unrivaled by most. “Don’t Call Me” is just another piece of evidence as to why she is one of the strongest songwriters in electronic music. Her collaboration has been released on her own label, Young Art Records, and is out now on digital stores.

[Electro] Drezo – Dead

You know that feeling when something is so good that you died? That’s how we felt when Drezo dropped his new single “Dead” to tease his upcoming EP. Jaded will be coming out on July 14th with three total songs, “Dead” included.

Drezo is one of those producers that never seems to let up with his productions. He’s always moving upward and outward with his creative edge and technical aptitude, which shows tremendously in “Dead.” This electro infused, yet deep record has us incredibly ready with anticipation for the full project. Drezo has a ton of great songs, but this is near the tippy top. Stream it today and stay tuned for Jaded.

[Music Video] Eko Zu – Here And Now

Eko Zu are bringing out all the stops with their project. Cool music, great visual content, a live show and of course their signature masks all play into why this trio is a must know. They are just coming off a little remix medley they put together, but now they are already here with a brand new music video.

Their song “Here And Now” has a hybrid music video that brings together the group’s love of animation together with some live footage of the group. It’s a simple music video with a formula that works, changing through distinct phases that come and go in sequence. With the track, we get a vibey record whose classic sound echoes the earlier days of house music.

One of LA’s rising tastemakers, Autumn In June, has grabbed a lot of attention over the past year. With many reviews praising the forward thinking, pop-infused sound, it’s all culminated with his new 12-track album, Magenta.’ There are many standout songs from high-energy hits to more emotional cuts. [Indie Pop] Melis – Flower

Half Czech, half Turkish singer/songwriter Melis is giving us a sneak peek of her debut EP Parallels with the release of “Flower”, an emotionally-driven indie track that is dedicated to her father. You might recognize her voice from songwriter duo IYES, which has a more electronic and futuristic sound.

Melis explains that how “Flowers” holds a special place in her heart and leaves behind the powerful message – that if you’re going through a tough time in your life, remember to never give up and remain hopeful because dark times will not last forever. Her soothing vocals bring out the vulnerability hidden deep down, and the lyrics speak volumes about the poignant journey she went through.

Donkong Join Us In The Dojo With New EP [TMN Interview]

Distance is meaningless if you’re willing to make things work. Despite distance, Donkong was born. The duo comes out of Germany with unique dance-hall style influenced tracks that aren’t what you would expect to be coming out of Europe.

Donkong’s most recent project shares this sound. The No Boy EP features two singles, each with their own distinct sounds that show off the duo’s ability to be diverse. Upon listening to the EP, we had Donkong come join us in the dojo so we could get to know them and their recent EP a little bit better. Now, you get to enjoy all of these goodies for yoruself, so stream the title track preview while you read through our questions with Thomas and Joe.

TMN: Thanks for joining us, guys! Congratulations on your “No Boy” EP. How did the idea for this one come about?

THOMAS: Thank you very much. No Boy started as collaboration with our friend Zorro. He did percussion and I built the main synth that sounds so much like a brass sample that we could have saved some time on by just picking a brass sound. Nevertheless it was our first attempt to do Breakbeat. Same with Ammunition – we tried to combine a more traditional dancehall vibe with bass sounds. We’re quite experimental and always try to do things we haven’t done before.

TMN: You’re known for your innovative, genre-inclusive sound which seems to span a wide variety of musical influences. How did you both work to hone the “Donkong” sound?

THOMAS: We’re constantly discussing it and over the time there seem to be certain sounds that reappear. We still think the variety of what we do is too big. So we recently decided to do no more DNB… we have a DNB song coming after No Boy. What a coincidence.

TMN: Can you tell us a little about how you started making music together?

JOE: We live 500km apart from each other. The first time we got together in the studio and wrote “Jawz”, Thomas got sick. So he ended up on my couch and we Skyped every other hour to talk about the song and new ideas. Even though our first session was kind of a mess, Jawz turned out to be one of our best and original tunes so far.

TMN: What’s the scene like in Germany? Does the music go down a treat?

The scene is very small and that is also why we had a hard time playing gigs over the last years. Electro and Dubstep went down hill and suddenly all the cool parties disappeared. Then Hip-hop DJs started playing Trap, so no need for extra Trap parties. Germany is Techno land and everything that’s electronic but not Techno seems to be „not cool“ enough on the big scale. This seems to be slightly changing right now. Hopefully we and our friends can help with that.

TMN: So tell us a bit about how you found the process of making this body of work. Did you find that the inspiration flowed as soon as you hit the studio? Or was it tricky to pinpoint the specific sound for this one?

THOMAS: I guess it’s more about what we avoided to do with these songs. We don’t wanted them to have a typical club arrangement. Hopefully it makes a big difference for normal listeners. The sound is a combination of elements we also use in other songs, but we tend to build new sounds that act similar instead of re-using the old ones. Very often you start with an idea to make something specific and end up with a completely different song. Luckily these two ended up like what we had in mind, but it was a very long journey which took us over a year.

TMN: You’ve teamed up with Feral Is Kinky, Agent Lexie and Zorro for the EP. How did you all end up working together?

THOMAS: Like I said, „No Boy“ started with being in the studio with Zorro and having the basic idea for it. Then I met Lexie on one of Marten Hørgers‘ legendary BBQs, played her some beats and later on, while being pregnant, she recorded the vocals for it.

JOE: We haven’t met Feral in person yet, but she was working with some friends of us (Symbiz). Her style and voice was very unique, so we contacted her and asked her if she likes to work with us – sometimes it’s that easy.

TMN: You’re known for your excellent remixing skills (reworking tracks for the likes of Major Lazer, Krafty Kuts, Hudson Mohawke and TNGHT). If you could pick any artist, who would be top of your remix list?

Normally you want to remix a song that you think lacks something- or at least doesn’t fit your set. So it’s hard to pick an artist, because the people we admire tend to do very good songs, so our job gets a lot harder. Most of the time a remix that just takes the original to another tempo is quite boring. It probably would be something very different from our style, something with vocals preferably.

TMN: Can you tell us a fun fact about the Donkong project that fans may not necessarily have guessed?

The biggest fun fact is that we’re actually two people. Most of the time people think Donkong is one person.

TMN: What’s next for Donkong? Do you have any more musical treats for us in store this year?

There’s a lot to come. There will be some more free treats in the next weeks. A VIP mix of our single „Brilliant“ and a song with Marten Hørger. And we will bring more own original stuff as soon as possible. Stay tuned!

Get To Know Needs No Sleep With New Track + Q&A [TMN Interview]

If you like house music, then you need to know Needs No Sleep. Just as his name says, he will keep you up all night with his energetic tracks that have received support from the likes of Afrojack, Dyro and Tommy Trash. Mitch Thomas, otherwise known as Needs No Sleep, is one of those producer’s on the brink of taking things to the next level, one that will put him in front of the biggest crowds available.

Needs No Sleep recently came out with a new single called “Who Can Do” before he came to the dojo to answer several questions about the project and himself. Over the course of our talk, Needs No Sleep covered topics like the new track, the scene in Australia and what’s to come next. Enjoy “Who Can Do” while you enlighten yourself with NNS and get ready for more goodies soon from this talented producer.

TMN: Thanks for joining us, Needs No Sleep! Congrats on your new track. How did the idea for this one come about?

NNS: I started with the vocal hook of the track, ‘Who Can Do What I Do’ which I recorded with my own vocal in my studio. I then played around and added some FX to it to have it sounding how it is now. After that I made the drop, and then a buildup and breakdown to go with it.

TMN: What would you say is the most ‘Needs No Sleep’ element of this track?

NNS: The heavy bassline groove is a clear indication that it’s a ‘Needs No Sleep’ track!

TMN: Can you tell us a little about how you began making music?

Having previously worked under another alias, I’ve been producing music for about 6 years. It’s given me the time to really hone my craft and sound which is part of the reason for the new ‘Needs No Sleep’ alias.

TMN: What’s the scene like in Aus? Does the music go down a treat?

NNS: The scene is great, as are the people in it. Great environment to nurture collaborations and receive feedback when needed

TMN: So tell us a bit about the process of making your work. Did you find that inspiration just flows as soon as you hit the studio?

NNS: One of the most important things that I live by is that you cannot force creativity, forced music will never be as good as music that comes naturally from an idea. Whenever I find I have inspiration for something, I will try and jump in the studio straight away to capture the idea that I have in my head. If that’s not possible then I will make a voice memo of it in my phone to then re visit it when I am in the studio later.

TMN: You’ve teamed up with Vicious Recordings in the past. How did you end up working with the team?

After the success of “Get Faded” and how well that was received, we decided to team up again for “Who Can Do.” I know the guys as we both live in the same city so we’ve had a great working relationship.

TMN: What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened to you while gigging?

NNS: You wouldn’t believe the half of it – also NSFW, haha

TMN: What’s next for Needs No Sleep?

NNS: After this release on Vicious I’m teaming up with Sebastian Bronk for a collaboration called “Trashed” which will be released on New York Label Uprise Music.

[Indie] Kai Straw – The Recipe

If you were a fan of Kai Straw‘s previous album, Toothpick, then you are going to love what he’s got coming next. His album, Gun, has had its first step with the single “The Recipe” that shows a slightly different side to Kai’s heavily indie-centric sound.

“The Recipe” takes a much more pop-driven approach, however it’s not so much so that it sounds like any old commercial pop song. Kai keeps his unique identity in place and simply delivered his own version of a Summer single. It’s catchy, fun and most enjoyable with your significant other. Enjoy it with them, enjoy it with your friends and get a copy of it if you’re loving it like we do. Be on the lookout for more, as Kai will be coming out with a few other songs before the full LP drops.

[Event Preview/Playlist] The Underground Music Showcase – Denver, CO

The 17th anniversary of one of Denver’s most storied music events, The Underground Music Showcase, is just around the corner. What began as a one-night performance featuring just four bands, The UMS has steadily exploded into to a four-day music and art festival featuring hundreds of performances. As the time draws nearer to what will no doubt be another incredible weekend pf performances, it’s time to get our readers familiar with this year’s crop of (mostly) burgeoning artists spanning a plethora of genres and sounds. While this recent slate of participating artists is the second wave, we can assuredly expect one more run of performers to be added to this year’s bill, so stay tuned!

This year’s bill features one of the more eclectic, varied lineups we’ve been privy to for a number of years, including a seemingly heavier focus on displaying the myriad talent spread across The Centennial State (that’s Colorado ya yokels). On the top end of things, The UMS features an incredible slate of headlining performances from the likes of Nika Roza Danilova’s influential avant-pop project Zola Jesus,  New Orleans based Benjamin Booker‘s raw brand of blues/boogie/soul/rock, Red Fang‘s primal-yet-refined  stoner-metal, John Jagos’ lofi pop alter-ego and TMN darling Brothertiger, and the smoothly subdued vocal stylings of Esmé Patterson. In addition to the already excellent pallet of headliners, The UMS also will be presenting countless sets from some of our absolute favorite Colorado artists including Flaural, Povi, RUMTUM, Slow Caves & Dragondeer. To get your ears tuned for next month’s festivities, check out our preview playlist below and get your learn on if you haven’t already. Tickets are still on presale, so hop to it and pick up a 4-day pass on the cheap here!

[Trap] I.Y.F.F.E x DJ Sydney – Stress

This is the only “Stress” you need. I.Y.F.F.E x DJ Sydney‘s collaboration is a major trap tune, released as a free download. It’s not something you’ll want to sleep on, so turn your speakers up and get ready for some heat.

“Stress” is a song that develops from beginning to end, something that a lot of trap producers don’t always seem to do. With that, this collaboration is has multiple facets and it keeps you on your toes as things progress. One thing that sticks out with this track is the vocal. It leads most the track until the end where they flip the script and deliver something entirely new. Check it out and make sure to grab the download before you head out!

[Future Bass] Taylor Grey – MIAMI feat. Spencer Kane

The young pop prodigy Taylor Grey is back with another single, this time bringing in a bit of a different style from her previous release. This time around Taylor brings a friend to the party, Spencer Kane. Together these two do a modern duet on the future pop single “MIAMI.”

“MIAMI” has the vibe you may expect: fun, light-hearted and party-ready. Summer is almost here and Taylor is ushering it in with a smash hit that has become our favorite song of hers. It’s still got her usual pop flair, but the dance music elements can’t be denied. This could have been a dance track on its own, but with Taylor spear-heading the project, the accessibility of this grows tremendously. It’s one of those tracks that anybody can enjoy, even if someone says they don’t like electronic music.

AIRWAV – Vivid EP [TMN Premiere]

Enter the dojo for a first listen to AIRWAV‘s Vivid EP. The New York producer just dropped his five track project, which you get to glimpse first here with this premiere. Through and through, Vivid is a titanic expression that doesn’t limit itself to one genre.

AIRWAV’s project has a dynamic edge to it, but future bass takes center stage. Tracks like “The Void” and “Nomads” portray AIRWAV’s future sensibilities, while “Origami” and “Thinkin Bout U” show different side of the producer. All together these tracks take you through different sounds and styles, making it a memorable listening experience from start to finish. It’s an experience you don’t mind doing again and again.

[Electronic] The M Machine – We Had It All (Indiginis Remix)

“We Had It All” by The M Machine just got a fresh new flip. Thanks to Indiginis, we have yet another funk friendly track to share. The bouncy, bubbly take of “We Had It All” is an official release delivered through Mad Zoo. As you might expect from the label’s catalog, this one is a genre-bending gem.

Indiginis really pulled something special off here. The M Machine helped change the face of dance music, so remixing their work and living up to their prestige isn’t an easy task. Despite that, Indiginis went above and beyond, taking “We Had It All” to new heights. There have been countless remixes that have come out this year, but this is among our top. It has that remarkable familiar yet distinct vibe to it. It’s something that is accessible, but not your run of the mill. Jam this one one repeat to end your day nicely.

[House] Boris Smith – Baby feat. Ryan Konline

“Baby” by Boris Smith and Ryan Konline is just what you need. No matter where you’re at in life, you need “Baby.” This smooth and groovy single was released through Nurvous Records a few weeks ago in three forms, but we’re going to focus in on the full original mix.

Now, if you want the acapella or instrumental, they’re available, but to get the real experience you want both pieces together. “Baby” has this certain nostalgia to it, a certain classic familiarity that isn’t often sought after nowadays. Everything about it is tasteful. It’s minimal style adds to its catchy club sound. Boris and Ryan came together for a hot one that we know you will enjoy.

[Pop] XY&O – One More Night (Lemonade) + Q&A

There are a lot of songwriters out there and a lot of them write for other people. That was the original plan for XY&O, but after they came up with their signature sound, they couldn’t pass along the goods to other people to perform. They took the project by the horns and didn’t look back.

After launching in 2015, they’ve come out with several releases, the latest being “One More Night (Lemonade)” that comes with their second EP announcement. If you’re just getting familiarized with the trio, this track is a good place to start and if you’re already familiar, well then you know just how talented these three are. Either way, stream the single today as you read through the interview we had with XY&0 in the dojo!

TMN: Can you tell us more about how XY&O came about? How did you three meet each other?

Me and Tudor met at a recording studio in Cardiff Bay. I was working there and Tudor came in to record some tracks. We decided pretty much then and there to try write some songs together. I knew that Nick (guitar) from a band he was in. He had a pretty unique style even then at 17 or whatever he was, so we roped him in.

TMN: Tell us more about Cardiff! How has your hometown influenced your sound?

Cardiff, like most capital cities is a pretty diverse, dynamic and exciting place. Our music is often described as summery, beachy, chilled but Cardiff really is neither of those things particularly. Perhaps the fact that we started working out a small room in Bay area of Cardiff influenced our musics genesis. We spent a lot of time between Cardiff Bay, Penarth and Barry when we wrote our first few songs. They’re all coastal so maybe the beach just unconsciously crept in.

TMN: You guys each come from different music backgrounds. How have your tastes molded into the current sound you have?

Yeah, we all have very different musical backgrounds. Pop music (as broad as that is) is probably the common ground between us so was the natural landing spot for our creativity. Personally, my taste are pretty diverse, my favorite artists are people like John Martyn, Prince and bands like The Cure, Kings of Leon. You probably don’t hear much of that in our music though. Nick is the best instrumentalist among us, he has a wide range too but he’s into more technical music, soul, jazz etc. Tudor is the most millennial for sure. He loves a club banger.

TMN: What was the inspiration behind “One More Night (Lemonade)?”

One More Night is written about the allure of the ‘perceived’ darker side of professional life (or life in general). Why does Louis Theroux make documentaries on sex workers and porn stars? People want to know what the real people are like behind those professions. One More Night is same thing. It’s like a Louis Theroux documentary, but far less entertaining.

TMN: Any tour plans around your ‘Powder Rooms’ EP release this year?

Yeah we do. Hopefully after the summer.

TMN: Ending on a fun note, name your dream collaboration!

Skip: most of mine are sadly dead. It would have been Prince.
Nick: At the minute maybe Anderson .Paak, that could be very interesting

[Future Bass] Sisqo – Thong Song (JCY Remix)

Whether you admit it publicly, to yourself, or nobody, you like “Thong Song” by Sisqo. Everyone does. For most it is a guilty pleasure, which is totally cool. Today we have a remix that will hope to bring you out of the shadows and into the light. Thanks to the trio JCY, “Thong Song” lives on in a new form.

Believe it or not, Warner Music Norway put this one out, which has made us fall in love with them even more. This is the first official remix of the song that has been released since the original came out in 1999. Sisqo himself loved this song, prompting new recordings of the lyrics just for this remix. There’s a reason he was so hyped on it: it’s damn good. So get those booties ready, “Thong Song” is back!

[Future Bass] Klahr & Galavant – Boiling feat. Natali Noor

Klahr is a gem. Coming off the excellent EP Dreaming Wild, Klahr returns with a single on Axtone called “Boiling” featuring Galavant and Natali Noor. Together these two put together something that is timeless. No matter when this would have came out, past or future, it would still be a huge original.

“Boiling” has only actually been out for a few days, but it’s one of those tracks that upon first listen you realize you won’t need time for it to set in as a classic. That’s just its inherit nature. Natali Noor’s performance put her in upper echelon of our favorite vocalists. She stands out on this to a high degree. For Klahr, we know he can do anything and with this he even took us by surprise with its style and quality, something Galavant certainly contributed to.

[Future/Trap] Halsey – Now Or Never (Slander Remix)

We didn’t get the Halsey x Slander original we wanted, but the duo has come through with a remix of her song “Now Or Never.” Released as a free download, this track no doubt has been and will be rocked in their sets over the Summer.

With all the remixes coming out, this is one that stands out, not only because of who the remixer is and who they’re remixing, but because it’s a grand musical illustration that is just what the mainstage is looking for. Most producers are bringing out their “big” tracks but sometimes they just don’t quite feel as big as they should. This feels exactly how it should, large and in charge. If you like feeling like a master thug, then you’re going to love this track. One of the Beastie Boys’ favorite terms, ill, comes straight to mind when this bassy beast is booming through the speakers. Without thought or hesitation, your trap arms will engage themselves and you’ll start moving. [Indie] Analogue Dear – Alabaster Hands ft. Janna Lagerström

“Alabaster Dear” may be the most beautiful, quaint song we’ve heard in 2017. Analogue Dear’s collaboration with Janna Lagerström is nothing short of a masterpiece. Within the first thirty seconds, the song pulls at your heart and sets in motion the running tears.

Subtle, moving and blissful, “Alabaster Hands” is a song you truly lose yourself in. Hours could pass as you play this on repeat without a worry in the world. Analogue Dear’s composition is outstanding and Janna’s wordless performance speaks volumes more than most lyrics could. The song is currently available as a free download and will come out with Analogue Dear’s EP, Stories We Tell Ourselves.

[Music Video] Rad Horror – Sad Boy

Sometimes great things come from new beginnings. For Rad Horror, the step in a different direction has brought some incredible singles from the recent project. Relationships are never easy and when they come to an end they can be really tough, yet inspiring. “Sad Boy” has been inspired by such things.

Rad Horror’s single is a heart-wrenching alternative hit. You can feel the mess of emotions ranging from pain to loneliness, all the down to the motivation to move on. It’s a vast collection of convoluted feelings that are not easily expressible, but Rad Horror not only expressed them well, he did it in musical format to really touch your deepest layers. For the video, some may recognize the classic Warhol inspiration. “Sad Boy” is out now, so you may get a copy on iTunes if you choose.

[Future Bass] JACKAL – Endorphins EP

Over the past several weeks, JACKAL has released two singles to tease fans for his upcoming EP, Endorphins. Through the two releases, we’ve been at the edge of our seats ready for what’s to come and it is finally here. Just as the singles, the entire EP is a free download, however if you’d like to support it then you can do so on digital stores.

Endorphins comes in at four tracks long. JACKAL’s future sound reigns supreme throughout the project, with “Summer In Your Arms” being the most different with its bouncy tropical vibes. With each track JACKAL brings an array of genuine emotions, instead of simply writing seemingly catchy songs that cash in on the hype train. Endorphins will stand as a pillar of where future can go if one puts their heart and soul into it. Sometimes producer’s just miss that mark, but JACKAL hits it four times over.

[Get Crunk] Friday Party Playlist (Vol 250)

Take a nice big deep breathe. We’re at our 250th volume of our Friday Party Playlist. Over the years it has been lead by various writers, each bring a host of free downloads each week to give you for the weekend. Now, I will admit, each week we’re paranoid we double counted a volume, or miscounted in some way, but regardless if that’s true or not, we’re celebrating 250 now with a bang! Usually we bring a dozen songs, but we’ve got an extra for you. This week works come from Ashdown, Phiilo, WHIPPED CREAM, CRAY, Varien, TWO OWLS, Apashe and more! Get them while they’re hot and have a great weekend.

Kasbo is starting something that you need to pay attention to. If his own releases weren’t enough – even though they are – then you’ll be glad to know he’s got a brand new mix series he’s unraveled. “Cry / Dance” has just launched with its first volume, available for free.

Enjoy just under one hour of music from Kasbo and company. It will showcase his own music, as well as music that inspires him. To kick things off proper, Kasbo has included some unreleased goodies in the mix and this is likely not going to be restricted to this first volume. One of the said unreleased songs is his next release, so there’s that on top of everything else. Take a listen through the mix this weekend and get ready for more! This is just the beginning.

[Future Bass] PLS&TY – Run Wild

PLS&TY has been an artist we always look forward to hearing. Time and time again he has come out swinging, knocking it out of the park with ease. This time around, PLS&TY cleared the park and then some, delivering our favorite single of his.

“Run Wild” is not only extraordinary, but it costs $0. That’s right a free download. To properly describe this track, it needs to be broken down into two because of the hybrid nature of the composition. The first is the captivating tribal sound that PLS&TY conjured up with some musical magic. It’s what makes the song what it is, but that doesn’t take anything away from the producer’s usual future flair. Together they make “Run Wild” a dojo favorite.

If you’re in need of some good hip-hop, you’ve come to the right post. Noah North comes in to satisfy your craving with his new single “WASSUP” produced by Paul Couture. Paul is a familiar face around the dojo, but who he comes with this time is soon to be all the same.

Usually I’m not a huge fan of this style of rap, but Noah North came in so hot we couldn’t even deny it. “WASSUP” is a laid-back heater that may take you by surprise as it did us. [Future Bass] Element – The Voices feat. Tequisha

“The Voices” is the latest song from New York’s Element who is coming off a single just two weeks ago. Given that both share similar artworks, it has us curious as to if an EP is coming. Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s focus in on the collaboration with Tequisha.

Element goes future bass on his latests release, but offers up a sound that is not all that familiar. Emotionally engaging, “The Voices” sees Element and Tequisha pouring heart and soul into this to really make it a special record. You won’t mind hearing this over and over again. Another day, another premiere. This time we have the debut single from TxM, a remix of “Love Like We Used To” by Captain Cuts. The California band got a makeover from one of Minnesota’s own.

TxM swayed us with his moombah-pop sound. There was no way we weren’t going to jump on such a lively, vivacious single whose tropical sound is coming just at the right time. Summer needs hits like this, but don’t expect them all to come from big name producers. TxM may soon establish himself as a much talked about up and comer if his next releases are as good as this first one. In honor of kicking off this new project, TxM has released the song as a free download.

[House] Jace Mek – Hesitate

Don’t ever “Hesitate” when Jace Mek releases a new song. Instantly click play and go to wherever you need to get a copy. Luckily, this time around the track happens to be a free download.

“Hesitate” has Jace Mek strike an optimal balance between his weird (but oh so amazing) signature style with commercial accessibility. It’s very much the Jace Mek sound, but it has an even brighter spark than tracks before it. The young producer continues to take steps forward with his talents, showing a maturity with his sound that is beyond his years. Rumor has it you may be able to see him at EDC Las Vegas this year, but you’re just going to have to go to find out if that’s true or not.

[Trap] SCRVP – Helix

SCRVP goes ham on his latest original. Hard as a motherf….. well you get the picture. It’s not the energy that SCRVP brings, but the raw tone he expresses with the single that makes it so incredible. MMXVAC released “Helix” to the world, so if you’d like a copy you can visit digital stores.

“Helix” is a menacing melodic composition whose minimal nature adds to its memorability. It comes in at just over three minutes with the majority of that time being spent with some unique samples pounding away at your ear drum. You feel their presence with each attack as they pierce through the speakers. Ominous phrases encompass the chorus, dividing into the intro, middle and end of the track to mix up the soundscape. Overall “Helix” is what one might call “dope af.”

[Jungle Terror/Moombah] RayBurger – Lo Terorita

Dallas Texas just got a little bit hotter thanks to “Lo Terorita” from RayBurger. The heat isn’t contained to Dallas, as you can enjoy Ray’s track anywhere, anytime, as it is available as a free download. Get a spot on your hard drive ready, because “Lo Terorita” is exceptional.

RayBurger goes all over the place with this song. It’s a wild, Latin flavored treat palatable to the masses. “Lo Terorita” pushes and pulls the listener through various paces, bouncing between jungle terror and moombahton in an instant. It’s just the dynamic single DJs need for their sets this Summer and there’s no excuse to sleep on it for any reason, as the cost of it is $0. Just a couple clicks and it’s yours.

[Moombahton] dEVOLVE Feat. Richie Loop – Monster

For anyone who knows me personally, they know I live for moombahton. One artists who has been killing it lately has been dEVOLVE, whose latest treat lives up to its name. “Monster” features Richie Loop and it’s hotter than the rays that shine down upon dEVOLVE’s Florida home.

Released on Flex Up Records, “Monster” is set to haunt sets all over festival season. It is easily one of the most solid moombah tracks of the year, in a year that has seen some notable 108-112 tracks pop up. Surely the genre is bubbling, with a possible comeback on the horizon and dEVOLVE is a driving force at the center of the energy. His new single is just another strong step in the right direction for this talented producer and Richie Loop is as fresh as always. Get your copy of “Monster” today.

[Pop] TRXD – Crazy

If I could teleport, I would likely go straight to the Warner Music Norway offices and hug everyone there. They’ve got some of the best talents in the world, pushing pop music that is anything but ordinary. Just take “Crazy” by TRXD as one example of their incredible taste for accessible music that isn’t watered down a bit.

“Crazy” happens to be one of our favorite songs from the major label’s catalog, with TRXD pulling no punches with their explicit future bass-faced hit. Everyone loves catchy melodies, deep grooves, memorable lyrics and the F word. “Crazy” has all that and more, which is why it’s a song we just can’t stop playing. We’ve decided to spread the infection further to you, so check out the song today and prepare to go crazy in the best way possible.

[House] Eko Zu – Now That We Found Love / How Deep Is Your Love

Medleys done well always make for fun listens. Just take the remix/cover/medley extravaganza that Eko Zu created. Now if you don’t know the tracks involved, we’re sorry, you need to go back in time and experience them in the glory days. Today, “Now That We Found Love / How Deep Is Your Love” is one product that will ease your week.

Groovy, light-hearted and ever so seductive, the trio’s creation here is just the right thing needed to honor classics. Eko Zu take the songs and reformat them in a completely new fashion, making them fresh to the ears in such a way that it almost feels like their own original. It’s just over three minutes of excitement with a taste of nostalgia to take you back. Eko Zu’s single isn’t something that we’re used to seeing often, which makes it even sweeter.

[Music Video] Kormac – I Believe

Dublin-based producer Kormac has got a cure for any Monday blues with his latest single “I Believe” and its accompanying visuals. The minimalist video, which was directed by Benn Veasey and produced by Rufus Pinkerton, details a sequence in which a young woman rises to her feet to give chase to the ocean. Those of you that have ever tried to run in a dream can certainly relate to the feeling evoked by our heroine’s journey to the water. The visuals tie in perfectly with the driving piano syncopation, working together to create anticipation and excitement.

This jazzy dance track follows two successful albums, Wordplay (2010), and Doorsteps (2014). It is Kormac’s most recent attempt to diversify his auditory palette. The distinctly lo-fi sampling is a musical deviation from his normal production sound– it is said to have taken inspiration from “spiritual jazz and old gospel recordings”. You can certainly hear these influences come through on the brassy horn and choir-clapping that interweave with the piano beat. With kick drums and cymbals keeping the pace steady, the track recalls a classic house sound.

Check out this video if you need a little auditory/visual motivation this Monday, and keep an eye out for more funky dance tunes to come from DJ Kormac.

[Trap] Matoma & MAGIC! – Girl At Coachella Feat. D.R.A.M. (Crankdat Remix)

If you follow our Friday Party playlist, then you’re well aware of how Crankdat likes to turn things up. He’s been one of the best remixers of the past several years, grabbing some of the hottest tracks and making them even hotter. He’s just done that again with his official remix for Matoma and MAGIC!’s “Girl At Coachella” featuring D.R.A.M..

With this remix, we get a heavy dose of hybrid bass. Crankdat straddles the line between trap and dubstep with his savage re-imagining of the soft-skinned pop single. Now, “Girl At Coachella” has an edge it never would have gotten from the original creators. Want a copy of his remix? Get it on the digital store of your choice today. Crankdat will soon be releasing his first original single as well, so prepare yourself for that however you need to.

[Indie] Absofacto – Endless Summer

Wouldn’t a Summer with no end be nice? Although that can’t happen, Absofacto gave us the track “Endless Summer” to dream with. The beautiful record does put you in a dream-state as it is both captivating and soothing all at once.

“Endless Summer” has a unique indie electronic sound that isn’t something you come across often. It has the ideal balance of each, something Absofacto is well known for putting together. ABsofacto has a handful of records, with more coming, but “Endless Summer” is our favorite song so far. It’s simple, surreal and engaging in with both the instrumental and the vocals. All around it’s an amazing piece of music.

[Electronic] Wu Wei – Automated Shadows LP

If you were looking for something a bit off the beaten path, then you’ve come to the right post. We’ve got a special LP called Automated Shadows from Wu Wei to share with you. The album came out recently through Insight Music and features ten singles that are anything but ordinary.

The Humboldt creative brought a whole lot of substance with this project. It’s a vast collection of cerebral beats and soundscapes that don’t necessarily abide by one specific genre. Instead of honing one genre in with the songs, Wu Wei brings influence from various sources and combines them with his own style. Picking a favorite on this project isn’t easy, as one can’t simply be singled out. They all belong together, one cohesive musical journey that you get to experience here in the dojo.

[Indie-Pop/R&B] RÓSA – Without You

Near the tail end of last year, Orange County, CA-based indie-pop trio RÓSA took our ears hostage with their debut 2016 EP Gypsy Queen. RÓSA’s developed songwriting and crystalline, synthetic sonority once again hit this writer like a ton of bricks when the triumvirate unveiled the first single from sophomore EP, Wasteful, due out on June 30th,  “Without You”. “Without You” leans on a vocal-centric aesthetic from lead singer Will Winters, propped up on a bed of subtle yet sophisticated arpeggiated synths, snares that snap like a twig under combat boots, and modal harmonies that flit all over their instrumental landscape. We’ve been drawing comparisons to acts as big as TMN darlings The 1975 to Aaron Maine’s lush Porches project, which for this writer is the biggest stamp of approval we’ve thrown out in some time. We’ll be waiting patiently for the rest of Wasteful, but until then, stream “Without You” above.

Post Malone – Congratulations (DEUX Twins Remix) [TMN Premiere]

The DEUX Twins are back releasing music and we’re here to give you a first listen in the dojo. In honor of their return, they’ve released a free download of their remix of “Congratulations” by Post Malone. You’ll be sure to hear this in their sets this Summer, including their highly anticipated set at HARD this Summer.

If you haven’t heard “Congratulations” then you must have been abducted by aliens or lived out in the wilderness. DEUX Twins started with a hit and ended with a hit. Their melodic remix is even more memorable than the original, with a catchy drop that isn’t going to be leaving your brain anytime soon. As we said previously, you’ll be hearing this in their sets, but don’t expect it to be listenable solely through them, as many DJs are likely to be hopping on this heater in a hurry. Enjoy the first listen today and join us in hoping these two keep up the releases throughout the rest of the year!
