[Dubstep] Skrillex & Habstrakt – Chicken Soup (MILIAN Remix)

“Chicken Soup” by Skrillex and Habstrakt was one of those instant classics of 2017. One producer who sought to take on the track was the LA producer MILIAN. His dubstep take brings the bass and has been released as a free download this week.

MILIAN goes all out with this one, bringing amazing sound design to the table with a composition that develops from beginning to end, leaving the listener on the edge of their seat for what’s to come. However, that’s not totally correct, as this track will actually have you on your feet and raging to the heavy bass. If you weren’t feeling quite ferocious this week, you’re about to.

[Future Bass] Kloake – Bridges ft. Nez Erok

The shadowed character of Kloake has just begun his journey. Only a few tracks are currently public from this unknown producer, including “Bridges” that has been released on Be Rich Records.

Fans of future bass will be in love with this original. The Australian Nez Erok provides a magical performance that will stick in your mind for a long time to come. The same goes for the catchy instrumental that Kloake created. With rising synths and vocal chops, among other things, Kloake conjured up a memorable single that will get his project going tremendously. “Bridges” is currently available on digital platforms if you would like a copy.

[Trap] QUIX X Bishu – Skin To Skin (feat. Cappa)

“Skin To Skin” is the newest song from the New Zealand producer QUIX. Although he comes first, both Bishu and vocalist Cappa helped tremendously to make this song what it is. Released on Dim Mak, “Skin To Skin” is currently available for purchase on digital stores and trust us, you’re going to want it.

Popularity isn’t the main thing to look at when something has come out, but it can be a good indicator. In just four days “Skin To Skin” has accumulated over 120,000 plays on the dwindling Soundcloud. People, including us, just can’t get enough of this dirty trap original. It’s not even close to average in any way, shape or form. QUIX and company manage to have created something that stands out with a hybrid sound that will sweep you off your feet. Get your copy and make sure to share this one with your friends.

[Indie Dance] Mauwe – THAT’S ALL

Sometimes you just can’t escape fate. The newly formed Mauwe were seemingly destined to come together after years of coincidental meetings. The Bristol duo now have their debut single out called “That’s All” and we hope that’s not it.

Mauwe dive right into their project with a unique sound that instantly catches your ears. It doesn’t let go either; in fact, it takes a hold of your entire body and plays with your emotions. Music is supposed to evoke something from within and Mauwe succeed to a high degree with this single. It’s not easy launching a project, but when your music is this good, things will run rather smoothly. Enjoy “THAT’S ALL” today and stay tuned for more music from these two hopefully soon!

[Electronic] Golden Vessel – Less~More (ft. OKBadlands)

On September 29th Golden Vessel will be releasing the Right/Side EP. Before we get too ahead of ourselves, let’s focus in on the single “Less~More” that just got released from the forthcoming project. “Less~More” comes to us in collaboration with OKBadlands out of Brisbane.

The indie meets electronic crossover has just the type of hybrid sound you’d expect from ground-breaking Australian acts. For some reason the country is a hot bed for creative talent that trumps most of the rest of the world. Golden Vessel is staking his claim in the territory with amazing tracks and more are coming with his upcoming EP. For now, peep “Less~More” and pre-order the EP on digital stores.

[R&B] Amir Miles x Nxfce – Runaway

“Runaway” is an uplifting R&B track that comes to us from the Lush Records catalog. More specifically it comes from Amir Miles and Nxface who teamed up on this incredible gem. What makes things even better is this one has been released as a free download.

Amir and Nxface get smooth and sexy on this one. One thing that Lush seems to be able to do with a lot of their releases is find songs that have that underground sound, but still could be applied to the masses on radio. “Runaway” bridges that gap with remarkable songwriting that isn’t tailored to be popular. It just happens to be a smashing track whose sound can be enjoyed by anyone.

[Pop] Gallo – Gallo EP

Ever since Gallo launched her project this year, we’ve been in love with her music and her vision. She is so much more than your typical pop artist, building an entire universe that you just want to immerse yourself in totally. Over the past couple of months Gallo has dropped two singles, but now we get her debut EP.

Her self-titled Gallo comes in at six tracks long. The two lead singles kickoff the project back to back, but then we get a glimpse of what else she’s had in store for us. Tracks like “Put Him In The Dirt” and “Wide Awake” grow her universe in new ways. All together the EP shows just what Gallo can do with an extended project, instead of simply being someone who can put together singles. Gallo thinks big and comes through on her aspirations. Adam Tell Talks Getting Into Music & New Falsework EP [TMN Interview]

I don’t know how Adam Tell gets it all done, but he does. He’s got a day job, but when he’s not 9-to-5-ing he’s working on his passion, music. That most recently has brought his EP called Falsework to fruition, complete with seven tracks total. Not only does Adam tell deliver dynamic productions, but he lends his light-hearted voice to the project as well.

It’s not easy to do everything yourself, but Adam pulls it off just fine. Throughout the project he gives listeners a variety of sounds to immerse themselves in, while nailing each vocal he performs. He’s an all in one package that has a great future ahead of him if he keeps up the great work that he’s already accomplished, especially with Falsework.

Not only has Adam Tell entered the dojo with his EP, but he has answered a few questions we had. In taking some time with us, he shines light on Falsework, as well as his journey into music. Get the inside scoop on this unique musician straight from the source, Adam himself. Enjoy his EP while you read through our interview with him.

TMN: Was music a large part of your childhood?

Oh yes! Some of my earliest memories were sitting on the bench of my parents’ baby grand, or playing with the rhythm machine on our electronic keyboard. Over the years, my family accumulated instruments, like a C3 organ, accordion, drum set, and guitars. My brother is the guitar player, and my dad plays piano, so I’d take the drums and the three of us would jam all the time! When we weren’t jamming together, I’d be on our home computer recording music on Garageband. On top of that, I was lucky enough to take piano, saxophone, and voice lessons for long periods of time. I had a really rounded musical childhood that exposed me to different styles of music and different ways to create it. I was a lucky kid!

TMN: Did you have any “a-ha” moment where you realized you loved and wanted to pursue music?

Not really. Some bright moments in high school stand out, but it was mostly just the sheer volume and variety of musical memories that pushed me towards it. I’ve always been doing it, and I genuinely can’t imagine not pursuing it in some fashion for the rest of my life.

TMN: When did you get comfortable putting your music out there and how to did you get past that initial phase?

I’ve been “releasing” music basically since I started producing/songwriting back in 2006, but by releasing, I mean handing out burnt CDs to my friends. I probably finished around 100-150 songs in the seven years before I started working on my first official release/album,, Past the Hypothetical. Back then, it was very casual and unacademic. Lots of transcribing and recording Frank Sinatra arrangements (yes, the whole big band), recording covers of my favorite rock/pop songs, and writing the worst originals I’ll ever write. But looking back, I think the variety of the music I produced helped expand my production sensibilities and the ability to finish full songs, rather than just fragments.

Getting back to your question though – I think what made me comfortable enough to fully distribute my first album was the fact that the songs came from a very honest place. I also thought that they were at least semi-professional sounding. I spent so much time making that first album, and the whole time with the intent of releasing it. While the production (particularly the mixing) is subpar to my production standards today, I’m still proud of the compositions on the album, and I’m so glad I got “past the hypothetical” and released it!

TMN: How do your previous EPs different from this one?

Great question! Now that some time has passed between my Fiction and Purpose EPs, it’s easy for me to distinguish them. In my opinion, Fiction is the most “poppy” of the three. It’s a concept album about a failed relationship, and love is a typical subject for pop.. On top of that, it’s mostly lighter in energy and sound design, and doesn’t really have any jarring moments throughout the whole EP. In comparison, Purpose has the heavier, more complex sound design. Coupled with the introspective lyrics, I think Purpose is more of an electronic dance music fan’s EP. I’d consider Falsework to be more similar to Purpose than it is to Fiction, but it’s much more eclectic than Purpose. I consciously tried to incorporate as many different styles as I could naturally write, so I ended up with a record that has a lot of influences.

TMN: Any cool Adam Tell things going on besides music releases?

Not a whole lot! Mostly just settling into my career as a CPA and trying to not spend all of my income on plugins and equipment! I did just finish my first live show at 515 Alive, and I’m planning on performing more after I get some time to focus on producing again.

TMN: If you could throw a tour together, who would be the dream team featured on it?

This is an easy one. If we’re going full dream team, I’d no doubt choose to support Imogen Heap on tour. That would be the absolute top. But here on planet Earth, I’d be really honored to tour with Fox Stevenson, Chime, and a lot of other musicians that I’ve been meeting lately!

TMN: Are you slowing down or speeding up in terms of content as we head toward 2018?

I’ve just released ten songs in the last two months, so I’m hoping that that keeps my fans happy for a little while! But I’ve got a couple more collaborations in the making that I’m expecting to have out by the end of the year. As for 2018, I’m going to be trying new styles, and the plan is to speed up, for sure. I recently switched to Ableton from Logic, and it’s already changing the way I produce and improving my efficiency. Oh, and I’d love to start writing for media in 2018 if I can get the opportunities.

[Indie] DEVOTED – Santa Fe feat. Billionaire

I have never been to Santa Fe, but DEVOTED‘s new single that shares the same name makes me want to go. Released on his label Record Record, “Santa Fe” sees the owner collaborating with Billionaire for a laidback indie electronic crossover single.

“Santa Fe” is one of those songs that you truly lose yourself in. You lose track of time, you don’t know how long it’s been, but the only thing in your mind is you hope the song isn’t over soon. Thank goodness for the repeat button. DEVOTED delivered something that feels organic; it’s not hard to imagine this one being played out live. You’re definitely going to want to get a copy of this one, so make sure to do so through the digital store of your choice after listening.

[Electronic] Ben Phipps – Mrs Mr feat. Lizzy Land

Anything by Ben Phipps is worth a listen. The same thing goes for Lizzy Land. Recently the two came together on a track that is not only worth the listen, but worth the purchase from digital stores. Their collaboration on “Mrs Mr” is an electro meets pop treat.

“Mrs Mr” brings together the more European, midtempo bass sound with a mainstream topline. The bond isn’t one you’d expect, but together it makes for a wonderful original single. It has a chill mood to it despite the bassline being somewhat dark. Lizzy contrasts that with a bright performance, something she does time and time again. All together “Mrs Mr” is an amazing single that sees Ben make his return after a few months of no releases. He’s made up for that with this gem though!

[Trap] Skan Feat. M.I.M.E – Mia Khalifa

There’s one track that has been making its rounds heavily over the internet this past week. “Mia Khalifa” by Skan and M.I.M.E dropped this heater as a free download recently and given it’s name and how impressive it actually is, people are sharing it like crazy. A lot of times when artists push a track out for virality, they miss the mark with the actual song, but here the acts come through with something worth a listen.

With this original we get a solid mix of genres together. M.I.M.E brings hip-hop to the table with his fiery rap performance, while Skan dips between hybrid trap and even moombah to give this track extra life you wouldn’t expect. The song, as you may imagine given who it is about, gets pretty NSFW quite quickly. Definitely a weekend track you’ll rage to rather than something you share with your boss at work.

[Hip-Hop] Renz Young – More Pressure

If you’re looking for a solid hip-hop jam to take with you into the weekend, then you’ve got what you’re looking for here. Renz Young dropped his single “More Pressure” through Litt Music and it’s just about as hot as it gets. Rap in its true form, this single is just what the genre needs to show some of these cats what’s up.

Renz Young keeps it flaming hot with some lyrics that might burn your speakers up if you’re not too careful. The beat is absolutely ill as well, laying the base for Renz to come in and do his thing. It’s one of those tracks that you will put on repeat and listen intently so you can nail down each syllable of the lyrics. Then you’ll be firing off the lyrics yourself alongside Renz. “More Pressure” is the only pressure you need.

[Electronic] Kyle – iSpy feat. Lil Yachty (ojivolta Remix)

“iSpy” by Kyle and Lil Yachty has become quite the song to remix as of late. The latest to do it is the duo ojivolta, who are making waves with their quality remixes, which they create, then perform live. Today, we’ve got both projects for you to check out.

With the “iSpy” remix the boys deliver one of the most unique, if not the most unique, remixes of the track. Their signature style is something that is getting them noticed, but on top of that, they’ve got a cool live show going. You can get a glimpse of that in the video below, which shows ojivolta playing remixes of this song, as well as their remix for “Feel It Still” by Portugal. The Man.

We Are Castor – Conduire [TMN Premiere]

Tomorrow We Are Castor will be releasing their massive twenty track LP, DOEP. A day early we get to give you an exclusive listen to something we’re super hyped on. “Conduire” is one of the Norwegian band’s most genre confused records and that’s just why we’re so in love with it.

From the start, you’re not really sure what you’re going to get. At first it feels a bit psychedelic, then it moves to a bluesy rock instrumental. At it’s heart that’s what “Conduire” is, but that doesn’t mean We Are Castor doesn’t throw in their own wacky mix of sounds to spice things up. From beginning to end We Are Castor has you hyper-engaged with the musical picture they’ve painted. Enjoy your exclusive first listen today and check back on the web tomorrow for the full LP.

Bakermat feat. Kiesza – Don’t Want You Back (Castelle Remix) [TMN Premiere]

To help end the week we have a very special premiere for you in the dojo. Castelle comes through with an official remix of “Don’t Want You Back” by Bakermat and Kiesza. Summer may only have less than a month left, but that doesn’t mean we have to start making the transition just yet.

Castelle gets down with a strong remix that is all fun, no filler. His minimal style let’s Kiesza’s vocal still shine, but his catchy melodies are the highlight of the incredible remix. It accompanies two other projects on the remix EP, but we’re going to go ahead and let you know this is our favorite of the bunch. If you would like to get a copy and check out the other tracks, check the digital store of your choice!

Not only is his catalog jam packed with goodies, but his latest is a treat even by his standards. “Break Down” with Keno has all the energy you need to get to the weekend properly.

Released on Uprise Music, “Break Down” is a jungle terror meets trap behemoth that instantly gets going with a rush of energy. Once the full impact hits, all you can really say is whatever expletive comes to mind first in a taken back manner. “Woah” simply won’t cut it. dEVOLVE always brings quality songwriting and production to the table, but he really let loose on this one and had some fun with it. If you want something to soothe your week, then Lenis has you covered. Her new single “Until The Day Of” will be your go to song with its sweet, alluring nature. The San Diego songstress has something superb on her hands with this original.

“Until The Day Of” blends R&B with Lenis’ own soulful edge. It’s soft, like a batch of clouds that will hold you in a warm embrace and never let go. You don’t want to be let go either. Lenis delivers a smashing vocal performance while the producer DTB laid the instrumental foundation for her to spring from. [House] GKC Union – California

“California” is the debut single from the New York duo GKC Union. They honored the great state all the way from the East coast with their intriguing original. It’s not what you’d expect from a track with the name it has, but it’s a great song altogether.

The track has a sort of spacey edge to it that has me thinking NorCal instantly. Despite that, it shares elements that you may associate with SoCal, a more clubby, deep sound with subtle vocals that feel a bit beachy. “California” is a grand state, one of the United States’ biggest, and taking on a song for such a state isn’t easy, but GKC Union give us a great production that isn’t your typical tune.

[Electronic] Disco Fries ft. Great Good Fine OK – Moving On

Damn, Disco Fries and Great Good Fine OK just dropped a hot one on Enhanced. Their pop influenced original called “Moving On” will have you moving along to digital stores to get a copy after your first listen. Although a lot of producers are moving to the pop world, Disco Fries did it right with this one.

Sometimes producers just can’t nail the sound, but “Moving On” shares incredible parts from each genre to create something special right in between. It’s a unique, but familiar sound that you can connect with instantly. It’s no doubt a dance record, but it’s accessibility reaches far beyond the usual scope. “Moving On” is a straight jam that will give you all the funk you need.

Galimatias – Blowback [TMN Interview/Single Release]

LA-based Danish producer Galimatias has been featured many times here on The Music Ninja. Known for his decadent piano chords and swirling melodies, Galimatias makes some of the most soulful tunes out there today. Transcending genres, he effortlessly blends together aspects of soul, jazz, hip-hop, and R&B. Galimatias has always hit us with sultry, emotional tunes that can instantly set the mood.

To help kick off your weekend, I’m excited to share Galimatias’ new sinful single, “Blowback”. Paying homage to one of his main musical muses, Matias samples Barbara Lewis’ 1963 soul classic “Hello Stranger”. Subdued electronic elements overlaid on pulsating rhythms and tight R&B beats create some characteristically sensual vibes on this track. Galimatias throws in his own ad-libs and vocal riffs; part of his effort to incorporate voice as part of his musical arsenal. Lewis’ sensual crooning is not overpowered whatsoever– showing Matias’ mastery of blending together such different musical elements.

As a TMN favorite, Galimatias has been interviewed by us before. I was lucky enough to catch up with him again, as he enters the newest phase of his solo career. Listen to the track above and read up on the interview after the jump:

Q: Your production style is amazingly soulful and seductive. How’d you come to develop this sound? Any influences you care to share?

Thank you. I’ve always been inspired by soul and jazz of the 60’s and 70s which in and of itself is usually quite intimate. That’s one sound I’ll always come back to. Stuff like The Temptations, Barbara Lewis, Smokey Robinson, Stan Getz etc. Hmm I started working a lot with texture after listening to UK producer Sorrow. Started developing a lot of my own sounds. To me, sound design has always been the most interesting aspect of music production, creating sounds that are unique. I think that’s when I started to really hone in on my own sound, back in 2014.

Q: Barbara Lewis is one of the OGs of soul, and I have to say you really did “Hello Stranger” justice on your new track “Blowback”. How did you come to choose her music to sample?

Many years ago I used to listen a ton to her track “Baby, I’m Yours”. I kinda rediscovered her with “Hello Stranger” from watching the movie Moonlight. All the music and sound in that movie was amazing by the way, most of it was composed. Anyway, I didn’t think of sampling it really, I just saved it to my Spotify and I was listening to it for a few months. I was actually gonna put it in my next Voyage mix and I was like “Hmm, it would be fun if I added some drums halfway through the track” and so I started working on that. When I made my drums I was like “Damn this is a jam, I’ll have to make a whole track out of it”. And the theme of “Hello Stranger” fit well with me writing a song about leaving behind everything and everyone I know, to pursue my career. Which is what I did, when I moved from Denmark to Los Angeles.

Q: If you could hop in the studio with any artist (historical or contemporary), who would it be and why?

Would be pretty cool to make a track with Marvin Gaye.

Q: As a Danish artist that’s (relatively) recently moved to the U.S., what are some of the differences you’ve noticed in the music scenes?

Good question. Generally hip-hop and r&b thrives way more over here. Which I love, cuz thats what I listen to myself. A lot of boring pop in Denmark, some good. Interestingly though, as you probably wouldn’t assume this, there’s also a lot of good reggae and dancehall in Denmark, people dig that. To be honest though I haven’t kept up too much for the last good while.

Q: According to you “galimatias” is a Danish word that translates to “ludicrous” (Google Translate says “gibberish”). How’d you come up with this name for yourself?

My first name is Matias and “Galimatias” is a word in danish that means somethings is kinda crazy or out there. You’ll see it in newspaper headlines every now and then.. like: “Politician says new health reform is *galimatias*”. My uncle came up with it actually, I showed my music to him from my Sony Ericsson walkman phone when I was a lil 13 year old beatmaker, and he said “When you start putting out this music you should call yourself Galimatias”.

Q: I have to say as a fan that your Urban Flora EP was incredible to listen to and was how I (and many others) came to discover you as an artist. Can you briefly describe the creation process behind that work? Any takeaways or lessons learned?

We made the whole EP before we met in person. We were both very inspired by each other and it came together somewhat effortlessly. A takeaway is that you don’t necessarily need to be in the same room to make music. I think it speaks to the power of the internet. It was still very much a collaboration even though we didn’t sat in a studio together, cause we were sending things back and forth to each other all the time, but we also got time and space to be alone with our craft.

Q: I know you’ve been exploring your voice more as both an instrument and a foundation of your music. What’s it like making that plunge?

It’s exposing for sure. But it’s also inspiring and it reignited my love and interest for music. Cuz singing is an area where I can still learn a lot. I’ve been composing, producing, mixing and mastering for a long time. I feel very comfortable in those areas, singing is relatively new for me. It makes it a challenge to make music again. I’m still a sound designer before all else, but the voice is the most incredibly versatile instrument of them all, it’s only about time I started using it.

Q: Can we expect to hear your singing voice live any time soon?

I’m not playing any live shows yet. I want to make the music first, enough to base a whole show off of it. I haven’t started thinking much about live yet but one thing is for sure: it won’t be DJ sets, I will never do that. It will be a live show once I do it.

Hope this song brings you good vibes this weekend. You can stream/buy this track on Spotify and iTunes.

Pop Funk – Knockout [TMN Premiere]

We’ve got a future bass treat for you in the dojo with a brand new premiere. You’re getting a first listen to “Knockout” by Pop Funk. It packs a certain type of punch that you won’t see coming from a track in this style, but it will surely leave its mark.

“Pop Punk” has been released alongside merchandise from the Atlanta producer, so if you cop an item, the download link will be included for you to get the track. It’s well worth at as the song is a fantastic future portrayal and the clothing items are equally as impressive. Pop Funk keeps things simple, but powerful throughout the track and merch which goes to show if you have the right tools, you don’t need much to make an impact.

[Electro] GRiZ – My Friends & I Ft. ProbCause (Dusty Bits Remix)

Our favorite breakbeaters Dusty Bits just came through with something super hot, as usual. The special thing this time around is that they’ve released an official remix for the one and only GRiZ. The duo took on “My Friends & I” featuring ProbCause and flipped it into an electro beast.

Dusty Bits keeps things funky in their own unique way. “My Friends & I” in its new form has a bubbly, bouncy quality that just calls for one to dance. It’s nearly inescapable. Dusty Bits have put out incredible remixes before, but in being commissioned for something this big in official capacity, they didn’t waver in delivering something that stands above the rest of their own work, as well as much of the remix LP, which is saying a lot given the high quality remixes throughout the entire project. Have a listen today and get yourself a copy on digital platforms.

[Electronic] SLANDER & YOOKiE – One Life feat. Zach Sorgen

Two of trap’s heavyweights collided on a massive single, but it is not what you’d expect. “One Life” sees SLANDER and YOOKiE diving into a totally different sonic territory than what we’re used to, but they didn’t falter in doing so.

Released on Spinnin Records, this three-way collaboration with vocalist Zach Sorgen is a cosmic creation with some future undertones. We wouldn’t go as far as calling it future bass, but it certainly shares some influence from the genre while taking it a different direction to new heights. The soft Summer single is a smash release that we’ll come to again and again as Summer comes to a close. If you want a copy, grab one on digital stores today.

Lil Debbie Talks New Album, The State Of Hip-hop & Rising Talent [TMN Interview]

Respect is earned, it’s not simply given out to anybody. Unfortunately for women, that respect is even tougher to come by in the creative world especially, but one OG boss who has been doing her own thing for years – gaining mad respect and praise from all crowds – is Lil Debbie. The rapper, model, weed connoisseur and fashion designer isn’t someone who will be going away anytime soon.

Lil Debbie has set up a foundation that is going to last. She’s come from music and that has laid the groundwork for a successful multi-faceted career. Moves will always be made, but her latest move hearkens back to the music by means of a brand new album, OG In My System. Complete with eleven tracks, including her lead single “Summer,” this LP sees Debbie taking her sound to new territories.

Stagnant isn’t a word in Lil Debbie’s vocabulary. Over the years she’s released an incredible amount of songs, each time out taking steps to offer fans something a little different. The Bay Area beast is a legend in her own right, but the tale isn’t over. We’re sure to have more music, as you’ll find out below. Lil Debbie recently stopped by the dojo for an interview, answering questions about her new album, where hip-hop is currently and what artists she has her eyes on.

TMN: Let’s start with a totally unfair question, which song is your favorite on the OG In My System?

LD: “I Get It” has to be one of my top 3.

TMN: Can you give us a rundown of what it was like putting together this LP?

LD: It was interesting, I’m always evolving, developing and progressing so it’s interesting to watch my inner self grow – going through sadness and bossyness.

TMN: What makes this album different from your previous work?

LD: Well for one I’m experimenting with Auto-tune, also I’m playing around with melodies and flow switch up. Definitely trying out new things and playing around while I still can.

TMN: Why did you choose to release the single “Summer” first? How much fun was it shooting the music video?

“Summer” represents such a lighter time of my life, I felt like it was necessary to drop that first. The video was a lot of fun, I honestly had no clue I was even going to shoot a video. Me and my girls just decided one day to play around with equipment we brought out to the islands. Most of it is just random footage of us wandering around by ourselves getting stoned and lost.

TMN: Being a stoner myself, I have to wonder… approximately how much weed went into the making of this album?

LD: POUNDS.

TMN: You’ve released an LP or mixtape every year over the past few years, looking to keep that going in the future?

LD: Yea, you know me, I’m not a quitter.

TMN: You recently did a project with the Barong Family. Looking to work with dance music producers more often?

LD: Yes, I love dance music and I love creating with all types of producers. I was sooo blessed to be able to be apart of a Barong Family project!

TMN: As someone who doesn’t stick to just music, what other ventures do you currently have going on right now?

As of right now I am working on my marijuana brand cakes, which is an edible line but I also do carry live resin and a cakes marijuana strain. I’m also working on other things for my fans but as of right now this is one of my main focuses.

TMN: Is there something you have yet to get your hands in that you would like to?

LD: Yea some Rose Dom Perignon! LOL.

TMN: Style is something you own and there’s no better, more permanent way to express style than with tattoos. What has been your latest addition and what’s next?

LD: I recently got legs in the air with panties sliding down the legs and two nails that are just filling in some space on my arm in between two other tattoos. I never know what I’m going to get tatted I just get things last minute.

TMN: Where do you think the rap game is at currently and where do you see it going?

LD: The rap game is in a dope dope dope dooopppeeee space as of right now. There’s a lot of freedom for artists to express themselves and a lot of outlets. All blessings!

TMN: Can you tell us some up and coming talent in the Bay Area that everyone should know?

Everyone should check out my girl that is super clean, her name is Aliky, check out her Instagram which has all her music info @Aliikyw. Also another girl that is dope that can also sing is Natty Kay, her Instagram info is @NattyKay7.

OG In My System was released today and is currently available on iTunes and Spotify.

[Trap/Dubstep] TYNAN – Interloper EP

If you’re into bass music, then you need to be into TYNAN. He’s been steadily releasing tracks over the past year or so, but as of recently he’s really excelled with some truly amazing releases. He’s only picking up steam and shows no signs of slowing down. His latest release, an EP called Interloper on Never Say Die, will show you just why he’s going to be the next big thing in bass.

TYNAN dropped four tracks with this EP including collaborations with Sam King and DISTO. Although each track is undeniably bass music, they each share different qualities making this an exemplary project. A lot of times bass EPs are just regurgitated tracks of a similar style that don’t make the EP re-listanable. Interloper will be pulling you back time and time again. There’s not a single mediocre song on it and each will serve to satisfy your every low-frequency desire. Check it out now, grab a copy on digital stores and make sure to share this one with your rage-friendly friends.

[EP Release/Interview Feature] NVDES – La Nvdité Vol. 1

LA-based music collective NVDES has made a few appearances here on TMN. Led by frontman Josh Ocean, this free-flowing art project is teeming with joyous energy and has gifted us with many feel-good jams, like this one. NVDES’ music is delightfully fun, meshing pop sensibilities with modern punk vibes.

NVDES received global acclaim for his last EP, Life with Lobsters in 2016, earning a feature on Zane Lowes’ Beats 1, and reaching the Spotify Global Viral Chart. So, naturally, we were excited to hear NVDES’ latest EP, La Nvdité Vol. 1, which is out now on Kobalt.

The opener of the 5 track EP, “May and June”, perfectly encapsulates the infectious energy that NVDES songs display so frequently. Dancy beats in combination with the electro-punk sound of that guitar will make you forget that summer’s coming to an end soon. In juxtaposition with this track, “Do You Think About Me” does an excellent job of showing the emotional range that NVDES possesses. This wistful track inspired by a long-distance romance maintains that summery feel while pondering over a melancholy topic like a strained love. Check out the music video for third track “Dancer From New York” below:

I was lucky enough to chat briefly with NVDES’ Josh Ocean about the collective, and this latest project. Read up below!

NVDES has such a distinctly fun and confident pop/punk sound that you really don’t find too often anymore. What’s the inspiration for your sound?

My inspiration is purely capturing the vibe i have while making the music…. Most of the time that vibe is high energy, joyful and exciting energy. Music is a drug to me….I make music to make myself feel good so ultimately I want to share that feeling.

As a group, your production style has been described as “lightning-in-a-bottle”– valuing “the thrill of uncertainty over perfection”. How do you know when you’ve got a keeper on your hands?

I’m constantly working on tracks and songs and sounds. For every NVDES track that I release there are probably 10 that I “shelve” on my hard drive. I like to see which songs finish themselves naturally as I’m working with them. I [don’t] try to force anything.

If NVDES could jam with any artist/group, contemporary or historical, who would it be and why?

Suicide.

How did you come up with NVDES as the name of your collective?

I was driving down La Brea ave one day and I passed a strip club with a “live nudes” sign and eureka!

La nvdité sounds like a really beautiful concept– the idea of being nude with yourself. Can you tell us more about it, and what it means to you as a person and a musician?

From the beginning I wanted NVDES to be a project that I could be totally “nude” with myself as a producer and make music with friends in totally new ways and create a feeling to express ourselves without any specific genre or box for the sound. I wanted the experience of jamming out a NVDES song to be whatever it came out as… to be nude…

I spent a lot of time in France last year and it is a place that has inspired me greatly. The expression to say La nudite really seemed to capture the ethos in which i started the project.

The cantaloupe seems to be a recurring motif in your artwork. What’s the story there? Do attendees of your shows still get cantaloupes?

For reasons I can’t explain, I have always been obsessed with the aesthetic of a cantaloupes. The colors, the texture, the taste…

On the deeper level I see the universe I have created around the music to all exist with the world of a Cantaloupe. Every cover artwork piece is me sharing a slice of the world that is NVDES.

And YES! Sometimes there are whole cantaloupes at the shows. We have also had slices at the merch table and cantaloupe cocktails at the bar…..

You can stream/buy La Nvdité Vol. 1 on Spotify and iTunes now!

SIRMA – To Love (Remixes) [TMN Premiere]

Today us ninjas have a special premiere for you from SIRMA. The Turkish songstress tapped a handful of producers to remix some of her tracks for the To Love (Remixes) project and we have them for you exclusively here.

Four remixes in total make up the project with works from Instant Karma, Salt Cathedral, Mallow and Pretty Sister. With some house, a mix of future and some work that can’t be pinned down to a genre, this remix EP was done right. Not only do you get a fresh mix of sounds, but you get some quality cuts that aren’t cop-out remixes. SIRMA and company curated this one nicely and it shows. The result is one magical EP that you get first listen to in the dojo!

[Future Bass] Kai Straw – Supernova

If you’ve been following Kai Straw like we have, then you’ve come to expect music that will pull at your emotions. That’s just what is going to happen when you listen to “Supernova” however Kai dives into a different sound with this single.

“Supernova” blends Kai’s usual indie sound with future bass to create an invigorating song with soaring synths and a vocal performance that will give you chills. This certainly wasn’t what I was expecting to hear from Kai as he unveils his upcoming LP, GUN, but it comes as a nice surprise. This track follows up Kai’s single “The Recipe” that you should check out if you haven’t yet. “Supernova” is currently out on digital platforms for those of you looking to get a copy or add it to your playlist.

[Future Bass] Said The Sky – Pray For Me (feat. Origami)

I’m going to go ahead and throw down the gauntlet and say that Said The Sky is currently the best song writer you are going to find anywhere. I keep thinking to myself, “How will he top this one?” and then he goes ahead and does just that. His newest track “Pray For Me” featuring Origami may be his most captivating song yet, which is saying a lot.

From writing, to production to performing, Said The Sky can do it all. We recently caught him at Moonrise and it was our favorite performance of the entire festival. Literally, the crowd was growing from start to finish as though he was at the mainstage. Said The Sky will continue to do his thing until he’s at the top of the game, which won’t take long with work like “Pray For Me” and his previous releases. He’s got more coming, that we promise you. Get “Pray For Me” today.

[Hybrid] Ray Volpe – Reality

On September 5th, Ray Volpe will be releasing his EP Reality. Luckily, you don’t have to sit and wait until that date with nothing to show for it. Ray’s dropped the title track and if you pre-order the EP on iTunes, you’ll instantly get a copy of the song.

Ray goes all out hybrid with song, bringing trap and dubstep together in epic fashion. “Reality” also sees the producer jump back into the driver seat as the vocalist on the project, which is something he’s increasingly done over the past year or so. The top notch sound design is the highlight for us on this one though. Ray’s always managed to keep his technical skills at the top of the game and they’ve gotten him where he’s at today alongside his talent for emotional songwriting.

[Indie/Electronic] Stalgia – Talk To My Skin

As far as indie duos go, Stalgia is at the top of our list. They haven’t put out a bad song yet, or even a mediocre one. Their latest lands itself in either the awesome or incredible category. “Talk To My Skin” will give you goosebumps all over your body from start to finish.

The first few bars are almost haunting, but in an inviting way that lures you in, then the vocal hits and you’re whisked away. Stalgia has you in their clutches, but you don’t mind. This subtle, yet beautiful track is absolutely heavenly, with a progression that couldn’t have been written better. Things build from beginning to end, taking you on a journey. It’s more than just a song and you WILL feel it.

[R&B] Blest Jones – For You (feat. Micah)

Let’s dive right into a Summer R&B jam from Blest Jones and Micah, shall we? Thanks to Lush Records, this fresh tune has come into the fold as a free download, so there’s no sleeping on this one. In his Lush debut, Blest brought the heat.

“For You” is a dynamic single in that it takes you through some different moods throughout the song, but centers in upon a vacation-friendly vibe. A mix of poppy R&B goes along with some hip-hop nuances makes this one single that everybody can love. Blest and Micah weren’t playing around when they were cooking this one up. “For You” would be well worth the purchase price, but luckily they’re celebrating Blest’s debut with a freebie. Thank them, share it around.

[Music Video] Ekoh feat. Almost Normal – Daudrie

Las Vegas rapper Ekoh has put out an emotional new single called “Daudrie” alongside Almost Normal. Not only do we get a song, but also a video, both based on the Netflix documentary Audrie and Daisy. Hence the name that had us confused at first.

With a topic such as sexual assault, it’s not easy to pull off something that sounds so genuine and stays true to victims involved. Ekoh does justice to the cause with a heart-dropping project that doesn’t miss a beat on any front, aural or visual. Artists are often not standing for things anymore, unless it will help their social marketing and look like they care, but Ekoh’s true intentions shine through a wonderful project. He took it as seriously as he could and it shows.

[Electro] Phenatiks – House Music

“House Music” by Phenatiks is just that. Granted, it does dip heavily into the electro style, so don’t expect everything to be all bright and shiny. Instead think dark and dirty like you would find in an underground rave, but like a real rave, not the candy-coated concerts that DJ is throwing nowadays.

Phenatiks bring a deep cut that will slice deep into your night. It’s just the right kind of party track that will give you that second or third wind you need depending on how late the night is. With a bassline that will knock you out, “House Music” is a certified banger. We don’t generally pull that inflated term out of our bag of vocab, but there’s no way around it with this heater. Did we also mention it’s a free download? Because it is.

from The Music Ninja http://ift.tt/2x5SbxF

[House] HONKA, Alex Alexander – Back Home

“Back Home” brings house music back to its home. Its home is a place where good music reigns supreme. No hype, no BS. HONKA and Alex Alexander put together a song that already sounds like a classic. Timeless music lives on forever and this is a piece of music that could do that.

Together these producers managed to create something catchy in all the right ways. They don’t ever come close to being cheesy, or refining things to a point to where they’re lifeless. In fact, things are just the opposite as this single has all the life you could want in a dance track. Surely it will get you up and dancing. Do yourself a favor and get a copy of it today from digital stores or add it to your playlists.

[Hip-Hop] Dio – Arrival EP

Dio is here with his EP, Arrival. Complete with four tracks, this hip-hop EP has come hot out of the oven from the Litt Music headquarters. No, I wasn’t being cheesy and saying “THIS MUSIC IS LIT,” but in actuality, this EP is pretty lit.

Arrival is an intimate project, with short songs that pack a punch you wouldn’t expect coming from their time length. It’s not all about length, as the saying goes. Dio brings heat every time out on top of some high quality beatwork. This is just the type of fire you’d expect coming from Litt Music. They keep it real and so does Dio, which is why they are a perfect match. Dive into this one and enjoy.

[Electronic] Record Record presents: Filet Mignon 5

Very few things this year will be as grand as Filet Mignon 5 from Record Record. Not only is it a massive compilation with a total of sixteen tracks, but it’s out as a free download. No gate, no bull, just free music from the French label.

For fans of music with identity, this is a treasure chest full of jewels. There isn’t a single bad song on this project, which is tough to come by even when someone is putting out an EP. Filet Mignon 5 is so much more than that with works from Acaer, Born Dirty, Aazar and so many more. If you sleep on this one, you’re only hurting yourself. Record Record pulled out all the stops when curating this LP.

[House] Will K – Guamo

Get ready for some proper electro house from Will K. His track “Guamo” has been released through Kaskade’s imprint Arkade and made its way into the dojo with its highly energetic sound. Just in time for Summer, this one is all for the festival stages where everyone loses their $#!+.

“Guamo” has some jungle terror influence peaking out giving it a wild feel in the best way possible. It pulls at your animalistic instincts and calls for you to go all out primal with your dance moves. Will K has something really cool on his hands with this one as electro like this doesn’t come by like it used to. Cherish this one and add it to your party playlist!

[Electronic] Madalen Duke – Gucci Store (Mickey Valen Remix)

“Gucci Store” by Madalen Duke is a one-of-a-kind track. It would make sense that an equally as unique remix of it would come along. We have Mickey Valen to thank for that and whoever chose to commission him for an official flip.

Mickey Valen keeps a similar tone to his remix, but in turning up the hip-hop edge, we gave a hardened take on the song. It still has the poppy elements that the original does, paying homage to them in his own way, but in taking things a bit of a different direction he made it his own. This is essentially how to put together a perfect remix. We instantly recognize the song, but are positively taken back by its new form. Throw this one on repeat and thank us later.

from The Music Ninja http://ift.tt/2fJWWK9

[Trap] it’s different x Forever M.C. – No Hands (feat. blackbear & MAX)

“No Hands” is something you cannot pass up. Having no hands would be one (terrible) thing, but this is the opposite. The major collaboration between it’s different, Forever M.C., blackbear and MAX is all you could have dreamed of and more.

This single has everything going for it. Top notch vocals, high quality song writing and production, as well as some guitar riffs from telykast that will melt your heart. Even the most bashful of individuals will be getting hype to “No Hands” as it is easily one of the biggest singles of the season. And did we mention it is a free download? You’re welcome.

[Electronic] AT LAST – Summertime EP

It’s the Summer, so it would make sense for someone to come out with an EP called Summertime. The someone who did that is AT LAST out of New York City. This independently released EP was put out a couple weeks ago, so it is currently up for grabs on digital stores. Where it will end up is your digital library.

Summertime is complete with three original singles taking from synth pop and moombah. “This Low” kicks things off with a vibrant display of musicality that has a whole lot to offer your Summer festivities. Next comes the moombah inspired title track that brings 8-bit sounds together with a dembow beat. “G.M.A.C.” closes out the project with a heavenly vocal performance that will stick in your mind long after you’re done playing this EP. Throw it on repeat, grab a copy; most importantly, enjoy.

[Music Video] Taylor Grey – MIAMI ft. Spencer Kane

Taylor Grey is making all the right moves. The Northern Californian is only gaining speed with each step she takes to the top of the music industry. Her latest comes in the form of a music video for her single “MIAMI” with Spencer Kane.

As we said before, the future pop song is a guilty pleasure of ours. Now instead of simply listening, we can catch Taylor and Spencer in visual form performing the song. Some background dancers and the setting of a bad ass house make this one visually appealing. It’s shots are quite minimal, but each scene strikes the eyes in a different pleasureful way. If you haven’t copped the single yet, do so on iTunes.

Benjah Ninjah – Tippin’ EP [TMN Premiere]

Given our ninja status, it would make sense for us to deliver an exclusive first listen from Benjah Ninjah. His EP Tippin’ is here in full, available as a free download if you’re not willing to support the project. After listening, you’ll be glad to purchase it.

Tippin’ comes in at three tracks long, plus an instrumental of one of the singles. Benjah’s trippy electronic sound is just the left-field release this Summer has been in need of. Each track shares its own space within the project, expressing different styles. “Clairvoyance” even recruits Dylano for some bars on the hip-hop original. Together they form one rock-solid EP that you get first in the dojo thanks to We Got This Music.

The Urban Renewal Project – Road To Victory (Ft. Hugh Augustine & Alex Nester) [TMN Premiere]

The “Road To Victory” has been paved by The Urban Renewal Project. A lot of bands say they are doing something different, when really they aren’t, but that’s not the case with this LA group. They’re the real deal and they’ve joined us in the dojo for an exclusive first listen to their newest single.

“Road To Victory” features Hugh Augustine and Alex Nester on top of the usual lineup of musicians. The jazzy hip-hop original is not going to be what you’ve been used to if you are a fan of rap. They cut back to some OG flavors, while implementing their own elements to create a truly special song. Musicianship always wins out with The Urban Renewal Project with the result being amazing tracks time and time again. Stream their latest exclusively here in the dojo.

[Hip-Hop] Azad – “Enough of You” (Karnaval Blues Remix)

“Enough Of You” is Sango, Atu and Dpat all producing under the smooth flow of LA-based rapper, Azad. As if that couldn’t get any better, it was just flipped brilliantly by the indie producer Karnaval Blues. With names like this on the original saying the bar is set high would be an understatement. But with Karnaval Blues’ washed-out take on the production and mixing of Azad’s rap it surpasses expectation. Thanks to this epic flip, we’ve got a new up-and-comer we’ll be certainly keeping an eye on. Give it a listen above.

TASTEBREAKERS – Wasabi feat. JAMO! & City James [TMN Premiere]

Wasabi isn’t in some people’s wheelhouse because it’s too hot. However, the “Wasabi” that TASTEBREAKERS have brought with JAMO! and City James is just the right kind of hot that people are looking for. Their collaborative single is here for you in the dojo where we’re giving you the opportunity to hear it first.

Hip-hop is in a ton of places right now, but with “Wasabi” we get something that isn’t like much else that’s out right now. It does have some similarities, but all in all it has a special quality to it that differentiates it from the general crowd. The beat itself is ill, with the rhymes on top providing the rest of the force on a hit that will knock you off your feet. We’ve got you covered with a first listen, so click that play button.

[Hybrid] Mat Zo & Kill The Noise present Kill The Zo: Part I (Krayysh Remix)

If you’re not too careful with Krayysh‘s remix of “Kill The Zo: Part I” several things could happen. Your speakers could be blasted into oblivion, you’ll rage yourself into a psychotic episode, or both could take place. That’s just the tip of the iceberg of the dangers of this epic remix.

Released officially on MAD ZOO, this re-imagined take on the classic collab between Mat Zo and Kill The Noise is beyond phenomenal. From the start you know you’re getting something special and what comes is nothing short of extraordinary. Krayysh brought more than his A-game, delivering a remix that’s jam packed with top quality sound design and writing. If this is a taste of what’s to come from Krayysh, then bass producers are going to have to step their game up to keep in touch with this Toronto talent.

[House] Izzy Bizu – White Tiger (Cat Carpenters Remix)

“White Tiger” by Izzy Bizu is a beautiful song. It’s also a fun song, but it recently got turned up by the duo Cat Carpenters with an official remix. Somehow, they made it even funner to listen to.

By adding in their house sound, they made this one club-ready in every way possible. The vocal was already about as memorable as it could get, getting people to sing along in an instant, but the girls went ahead and implemented an infectious groove that takes this one to new heights. This remix is currently available on digital stores for those of you who want to get your boogie on to an amazing flip.

[Electronic] mAsis – Always You

Hardwell & Austin Mahone – Creatures Of The Night (Charming Horses Remix) [TMN Premiere]

Hardwell’s collaboration on “Creatures Of The Night” with Austin Mahone has had a whole album’s worth of remixes for it. One of those remixes comes to us from the solo producer Charming Horses. We welcome you to the dojo for an exclusive first listen to his deep take in this premiere!

Charming Horses went all out club friendly with this joyous deep house cut. Of course, he kept the stunning vocal around and implemented his own sound into the mix. It was nice to hear “Creatures Of The Night” come into a house form. Despite it’s popularity and praise in its original future format, we just might love this flip more. It’s fun, catchy and incredibly dance-floor ready. Enjoy your first listen here in the dojo.

[Electronic] LIOHN – BONE APP THE TEETH

LIOHN is undeniably good. He’s not even good, he’s fantastic with a capital F. Every time out he’s got so much heat it might melt your speakers within the first sixteen bars. Today he dropped something extra hot and he dropped it for free. That made today a great day.

“BONE APP THE TEETH” is simply put, amazing. Two of our favorite tracks of 2017 have come from LIOHN and this is one of them. He turns things up with a trap influenced beast that’s too groovy not to love. It’s got a very specific type of groove that will get you dancing like a fool even if you’re the shyest person in the room. Heat all the way through, “BONE APP THE TEETH” would be worth the purchase price, but you get it for free. You’re welcome.

[Music Video] Gallo – Truth or Dare

Gallo is coming in hot with yet another stunning release. Another great video accompanies an equally great song with “Truth or Dare” coming in as the sophomore single. This shares a similar wild vibe with the first project, but tones things down a tiny bit to fit a different vibe.

“Truth or Dare” has a retro element to it, both in the song and video. It’s something that’s not easy to pull off, but Gallo does so with talent and precision, not missing a beat anywhere. She seems to be creating her own universe in everything she does, which is something that we’ll continue to see grow as time progresses. Gallo’s not just an impressive artist, but she’s a true creator bringing much more to the table than even your above average musician.

“I wrote “Truth or Dare” about relationships that you know are never gonna go anywhere but in that “failure” was exactly what you might’ve wanted and seemed more of a success to you. It’s a topic my girlfriend’s and I always discuss. You tend to see guys wanting more casual relationships without any definition but when you see a girl wanting that it’s thought of much differently and that just got me thinking. That’s the train of thought I was on when writing this song. It’s not about being a tease but feeling empowered with the understanding that there’s no shame in giving into someone intensely just for a few moments and not feeling lessened by it.”

[Electronic] Internet Friends – 24/7

Most of us have internet friends, but now you need to get familiar with THE Internet Friends. Recently the duo released their single “24/7” that some might just be playing that long. Amsterdam is home to a lot of great talent which has just expanded itself with the recent addition of Alex and Boris who just launched their project.

“24/7” is a laidback pop meets electronic treat. Leading with a strong vocal, the track gets where it needs to be – stuck in your head. The instrumental is equally as catchy with subtle, but identifiable grooves that you’ll connect to instantly. The radio is full of music that is trying to do what Internet Friends have done, so don’t be surprised if these two end up on the airwaves as their project progresses.

[Trap] Whethan – Love Gang (feat. Charli XCX) (Candyland X Filip Remix)

“Love Gang” by Whethan and Charli XCX got a major remix treatment from one of our favorites, Candyland, and the Swedish Filip. Released as a free download, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be all over this track.

Smooth, suave and oh so sweet, this remix is all magic. We already know what Candyland can do on her own and every collab she’s released is pure fire, this one definitely included. With Filip the result is the perfect Summer flip of a hit that was made for festival season. The vocal chops are the definite highlight, but everything they brought to the table is impressive. Starting with Charli XCX’s vocal isn’t a bad place to begin either; she’s always got the heat. Listen and download this jam today.
