[House] NVDES – Louì

“Louì” by NVDES is just the song you need to get your weekend started properly. It’s house driven beat will get you invigorated for the parties to come, but it’s just chill enough to throw on and nod your head to if you’re looking for a relaxing time.

NVDES went in on this, delivering all the right vibes from the intricacies of the beat to the atmospheric vocal. It’s one of those times you run into an obviously electronic record, but even if you’re someone who doesn’t like “electronic music” you will be hype on this one. Whatever your digital platform preference is, make sure to get a copy or add it to your playlist!

[Electronic] Lacei x Cape Lion – FalI In

Collaborating with someone who inspired you to get into music is not something everyone gets to do. Lacei did just that with Cape Lion and the result was a magnificent electronic original called “Fall In” that we have for you today.

Back in 2002, Viktor of Lacei and Cape Lion met while living in Spain. Years later, recent to us now, both members of Lacei got together with CL and cooked up this treat. The two acts blend their sounds together to perfection. Each style amplifies the other making “Fall In” a special tune that will be on our playlists for a long time to come.

The Pendletons – Funk Forever EP [TMN Premiere]

It’s not quite the weekend yet, but The Pendletons out of San Francisco have come through the dojo to help get you there in style. Their EP, Funk Forever, is getting exclusively scooped early right here! Complete with five original tracks and a remix, you’ll be grooving into Friday with ease.

Funk Forever delves into various sounds including funk (obviously), jazz, soul and more. There’s a certain level of nostalgia that the group was able to harness, paying homage to older disco records that influenced their sound. From the first note until the last, The Pendletons capture your attention and body with lively grooves, emotive melodies and so much more. It’s a hell of an EP that is well worth getting a copy of. If you’re looking to do so, Bandcamp has you covered.

James TW – ‘When You Love Someone’ + ‘Say Love’ Release Info

The modern concept of marriage itself is simple enough for young kids to understand. When two people love each other, they get married and starting a family. An obvious oversimplification but often a satisfactory explanation. However, the opposite is not so simple. Divorce, beyond two people not wanting to be together, leads to more follow up questions. Especially coming from a confused son or a daughter trying to grasp what exactly is happening around them.

James TW’s 2015 single ‘When You Love Someone’ dives right into deconstructing the intricacies of two people falling out of love with genuine honesty and hopefulness. Even though his parents did not get divorced themselves, it is very much a personal story. While teaching instruments to kids a few years back, James found out of a boy’s parents were separating. The 11-year-old had not been told yet and it made James think about how will these parents be able to explain things to the boy and still paint it with positivity. How can other boys and girls understand what happened between their parents and not come out of it with negative conclusions? In Mister Roger’s fashion, James sits us down with a song that speaks directly to the heart, even if he often doesn’t perform wearing a red cardigan.

It has been some time since he has released a new song but that is soon about to change. James TW, the 19-year-old self-taught singer-songwriter from the UK will release his new single “Say Love” on March 30th. It will be the first single from the highly anticipated new album due later this year.

[Hip-Hop] Deezie Brown – Drive

Most writers within these hallowed grounds of The Music Ninja tend to have a few lesser known albums in their back pocket in which they keep on heavy rotation. One such album in this writer’s library comes from thought provoking Austin, Texas based artist Deezie Brown, who is riding high, fresh off the heels of the release of debut long-player Judith.  A 12-track offering delivering a rebellious synthesis of alternative hip-hop and electronic pop, Judith features more than a few high points for listeners to sink their teeth into.

Standing tall among the excellent sea of Judith’s ciphers, is the sterling single “Drive”. “Drive” runs off the fumes of burbling, synthesized two-step drum patterning, crispy snares and of course Brown’s gritty vocal cadence anchoring it all down. About the album Brown shared: “The lyrics throughout the album paint a picture of my addictions and the things that the industry place in front of us as a disguise on what success is supposed to look like.” Deezie Brown clearly has a progressively fresh mind aimed towards his art, and it’s always refreshing to hear an artist in the realms of rap and hip-hop with a true message to share. Judith is available on all major streaming services, so before you dive in, check out “Drive” below.

Sacred Sciences & English Lit – Gym Class Hero (feat. Control) [TMN Premiere]

Firepower Records has been unleashing the 8th volume of their Flatline compilation series bit by bit and today we’re offering up a first listen to one of the tracks. “Gym Class Hero” by Sacred Sciences, English Lit and Control is, as you’d imagine from this group of artists and label, an enormously heavy tune.

These three acts joined up to supplement each others attributes for a dirty dubstep original that implements hip-hop to further sweeten the pot. The rough-toned rapping fits perfectly with the gritty low frequencies that “Gym Class Hero” boasts. The full compilation release will be happening on March 30th, so you can pre-order the LP or buy the track once Friday comes along. For now enjoy your exclusive first listen!

[Trap] Birthdayy Partyy x BigSammyZ – Bad Bitches

Things are looking up for the Birthdayy Partyy twins. After their first festival announcement for Spring Awakening they’re coming in hot with a collaboration on “Bad Bitches” with BigSammyZ.

Released as a free download, this original shows off a completely new side to the duo we have yet to see, certainly BigSammyZ had a something to do with that as well. It’s nice to see artists stretch their creative abilities and this hybrid trap original has us even more excited for what’s to come from Birthdayy Partyy. It’s not hard to imagine this one booming away at festivals everywhere this Summer, so don’t be surprised when it pops up in set lists.

[Music Video] I M Alec – Hometown (feat. GiGi)

Welcome to “Hometown” by I M Alec and GiGi. Their electro pop collaboration hasn’t come alone, its creators have partnered the single up with a rather cool music video.

Conceptually, the structure is straightforward juxtaposing GiGi with some BMX biking in a darkened warehouse. While bouncing between halfpipe runs and GiGi taking centerstage with a kick-ass Cheerios racing jacket, we are soothed with the smooth sounds of “Hometown” with its vibrant melodies and invigorating soundscapes. This is definitely one you’ll want to add to your playlists on Spotify.

[Electronic] Wilsonn – Even If I Know

Looking for some dark electronic soundscapes? Wilsonn has you covered with his shadowed R&B crossover single “Even If I Know” that dropped through Upside Music.

“Even If I Know” begins with an intriguing few measures that blend soothing tones with edgy textures for a captivating start. From there you’re hooked in and Wilsonn takes control by expanding the sonic palate and serenading us with his comforting vocal. As the song progresses it shifts gears keeping things fresh from beginning to end without getting stale. Listen to the song for yourself and see what Wilsonn had to say about it.

This single explores the chaos, hurt and pain of the other side of life & this industry.

[Music Video] Wallace – Good Guy (With a Gun)

The Chicago singer/songwriter Wallace has graced the web with an intimate anti-gun track called “Good Guy (With a Gun)” whose charitable efforts shall not go unnoticed. The single calls for proceeds to be donated to March For Our Lives.

Not only is there the song, but Wallace put together a fun little lyric video to augment the track’s already powerful appeal. It’s simple, yet effective in conjuring up the connection that is needed to progress a movement. There have been a few anti-gun songs that have come out, but this is one of the best projects so far. Enjoy the video and make sure to donate to the charity.

After a themed episode and a week off, i had way too much music for this episode. My favs from this episode include revisiting a classic Talib Kweli cut, a groovy new single from Still Woozy, Black Milk’s smooth bars, Ross From Friends‘ stellar Brainfeeder debut and Four Tet‘s gorgeous Bicep remix. – Ash

[Dubstep] Hi I’m Ghost – Ghost Boogie

Hello, are you ready to boogie? Because Hi I’m Ghost dropped a major two-track EP on Firepower Records entitled Ghost Boogie. It’s not disco, instead Hi I’m Ghost drops us in the middle of a beastly barrage of dubstep.

“Pow Pow” starts off the EP with pure, bass driven aggression that will bring all the headbangers out to the front rows. The same can be said for the title track that comes next with its riddim inspired sound. Together these records should satisfy the basshead inside, it certainly did for us. If you’d like a copy of the EP, you may add it to your digital library from online stores today.

[Hip-Hop] DOGSSS – DOGSSS 1: SIDE B

DOGSSS has come through with some hip-hop heat in the form of DOGSSS 1: SIDE B. This four track EP features four distinct acts and comes to us from the Detroit Lines imprint. Not only do we have the EP, but a music video has come with the project for the song “On My Feet” featuring Squadda B. The EP flows nicely between differing sounds to give the listener an experience that doesn’t stale. It’s not a full LP, but with what DOGSSS has going with this project, don’t be surprised if there’s a more extensive project on the horizon. To supplement the solid EP, the music video adds another edgy dimension to this engaging release.

[TMN Premiere] Harlee – Venom (Disco Fries Remix)

NYC-based duo Disco Fries are back with some serious fire. have put their spin on Steve Madden/5Towns Records’ signee Harlee’sVenom.” Through their colorful rendition, they create an intoxicating and upbeat version of the ethereal ballad.

For those unfamiliar, Harlee has quickly become a buzzing and dynamic pop act. Kicking off her music career with the single “Holding On,” she followed it up with “Venom,” a hit that took off soaring the minute it went live.

It doesn’t come as a surprise that Disco Fries, who are widely recognized for bridging the gap between mainstream and EDM, gravitated towards Harlee’s single. Taking their easily-digestible yet versatile sound, Disco Fries put a seemingly effortless, jubilant spin on the powerful ballad while still complimenting Harlee’s impressive vocal range. Take a listen below and you’ll see why we felt compelled to share this one.

[Video] Porches – Find Me (Baba Stiltz & Samo DJ Remix)

Back in October, we featured Porches’ lead single from the then impending LP The House: “Find Me”. The original tune itself is a clear standout on an album that never quite seems to find its mark as a cohesive statement, and with its boisterous percussion, humming synth work and simple yet sugary sweet pop structure, it was ripe for the good ol’ fashioned remix treatment.

First in line to apply their own glossy coat of paint on top of Aaron Maine’s original mix was the duo of Baba Stiltz & Samo DJ. The pair brilliantly manage to marry their own disco tinged house aesthetic to “Find Me” while clearly maintaining Porches’ original integrity. The result is a hooky earworm of a tune, which buoys Maine’s unmistakable refrain on top of their aural re-tooling. Baba Stiltz & Samo DJ’s remix is accompanied by its own shiny music video with footage directed by Denim Dean, which you can see below. Porches is currently wrapping up a North American tour this weekend, with three NYC shows – March 23rd @ Music Hall of Williamsburg, March 24th @ Bowery Ballroom and March 25th @ Elsewhere, so for our NY friends, be sure to catch them live and watch the video for Baba Stiltz & Samo DJ’s remix below.

Organised Scum – Unborn Cars [TMN VIDEO PREMIERE]

“Unborn Cars” has an intrinsic attraction to it, one which feels warmly nostalgic. Not that I’d directly compare it to tracks from artists who managed churned out chart-toppers, but I can’t help but feel this strange connection to time-honored acts like The Cars or Devo.

Coming your way via London, Organised Scum is comprised of Tom Duggins (Vocals, Guitar), Tom Williams (Bass) and Sean Canty (Drums). After gaining a fair amount of attention with their debut EP, back in 2016, they’re back with this fresh offering.

I also wrote this track thinking of my niece – who’d just turned two at the time. She was starting to talk properly and the phrase ‘we can understand what you’re saying’ was going through my head. I realized how incredible even the simplest acts of communication are, and how we take this stuff for granted, especially nowadays when we’re in constant contact with everyone and everything. – Tom Duggins

“Unborn Cars” dropped via Soundcloud and Spotify a few weeks back, but today, I’m bringing you a first look at visual representation of the track. Featuring the robotic arm from their cover art, laid over scenic mountain views, and a spattering of lyrics to help you sing along, it’s definitely as unique and quirky as the track itself.

#TMNMailbag #5: Gold Koa – Little Lost

Next up in our #TMNMaibag series is the debut track from three-piece act Gold Koa. Other than a brief email with a Spotify and Soundcloud link, I don’t have a ton of background information to share with you. In fact, you’ll be hard pressed to find any on your own. But, that doesn’t really matter, now does it? It’s all about the music, especially when we’re talking about a #TMNMailbag submission.

“Little Lost” is a gorgeous, shimmering number from this brand new act. Endearing lyrics are the driving force throughout, making a strong emotional connection from the get-go. Instrumentals are lovely, to boot, offering up a warm, sunshine-y soundscape. It’s hard not to smile, so don’t fight it. Just grin and take advantage of all those warm ‘n fuzzies from Gold Koa.

[TMN Interview + Music Video] Taska Black feat. Ayelle – Dead Inside

You may have been seeing bitbird artist Taska Black’s name quite a bit recently. The Dutch producer has been on a steady rise, seeing overwhelming success in 2017 with singles such as “Where We Go,” as well as his collaboration with fellow bitbird artists Droeloe and vocalist Cut_, “Lines of the Broken.” Taska’s most recent accomplishment is his release with soulful singer Ayelle titled “Dead Inside,” and just days ago he released the song’s official music video. Lucky for us, we were provided with the opportunity to speak with Taska Black and learn more about the inspiration behind his music and the video in addition to some sneak peaks of what 2018 will look like for him. Watch the video and check out the interview below!

TMN: Rumor has it you’ve got some huge announcements coming up. Can you give us any hints as to what those will be?

TB: No one thing in particular but I’ve got lots of exciting things happening indeed. Exciting collaborations with bitbird artists and others outside as well. And I might also be working on what I hope is my debut EP…

TMN: How did you get into production? Did you have any classical training prior?

I started taking lessons in violin and piano when I was 4 years old. I never liked playing songs from sheet music exactly how they were supposed to be played so I started improvising my own melodies. When I was about 13 years old I got my first audio interface and Cubase to start recording my improvisations and that’s how I got into production. After years of experimentation I thought it was time to take things to the next level so that’s when I started Taska Black.

TMN: It’s huge to be approached by a creative mind such as San Holo’s. What was your initial reaction when he asked you to sign to his imprint bitbird?

TB: Actually it was me sending a mail to them 3 years ago to show them what I was doing. I loved what bitbird was putting out and San seemed to like what I was doing too. We started talking and that lead into more releases on bitbird. Both San and bitbird have grown a lot over these years and I’m super grateful to be part of the family and to have such amazing people around me.

TMN: What do you love most about the bitbird label?

TB: I think we’re doing something unique in the industry. bitbird really feels like a small family of people with their own vision and their own sound. That’s what San does best I think, supporting people who have their own vision whether it’s in classical music or EDM.

TMN: What can we expect for 2018? Do you have any cool collaborations coming up that you can tell us about?

Lots of new music. Some remixes and new original singles. I’m currently working on some exciting collaborations but unfortunately I can’t reveal any of that yet. I’m also super stoked to be playing my first shows in the US this year. Really looking forward to Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza Paris as well.

TMN: Congratulations on the release of your new music video for your single with Ayelle, “Dead Inside!” Can you tell us a bit about the plot or what inspired the creative direction of it?

TB: Thank you! I really saw this track as a chance to show my experimental side of music to the listeners. I had this vague line in my head “I’m dead inside” so I started building off that thought. When I finished the song with Ayelle we started talking to the director of the music video, Joris Weerts. We shared some ideas on how we wanted to approach the video and give more meaning to the song. I think the track really came to life when we combined both the musical and the visual aspect. The video shows how people are not easily impressed anymore in this saturated era of media and the internet. We wanted to make these feelings of depression heard in order to accept and deal with them, rather than to criticize.

TMN: How would you describe a Taska Black show? Are there any features of it that you feel are signature to “Taska Black,” such as visuals or live elements?

TB: We’re currently shaping the show both musically and visually and I’ve had the chance to test things out on the shows I did with San. I always like to play lots of unreleased music and edits of songs that I’m into. I’ll be doing DJ sets only for a while now but in the long run I really want to incorporate live elements in the show so we’re putting a lot of thought into that as well.

Spazz Cardigan Takes Over The Dojo With His Own Episode [TMN Interview]

Pop music has a newer face that you need to get familiar with. Out of Nashville comes Spazz Cardigan, a lone creative ranger looking to break the boundaries of pop music. Just take his latest single for a spin and you’ll see the urban flare he provided in “Episode.”

We’ve been jamming this one in the dojo since it came out and afterward caught up with Spazz just to see where this kid came from and what makes him tick. You can see from his thoughtful answers that he puts his all in everything that he does. We’re happy to give Spazz his own “Episode” in the dojo. Without further adieu, enjoy all that Spazz has to offer in this brief moment in his long – and hopefully quite fruitful – journey.

TMN: How did you initially get into music?

I was always dancing and singing around the house and church as a kid, but I started learning piano when I was 8 and taught myself guitar from there. I spent a few months of my 4th grade year in a children’s hospital after some surgical complications, and that was what sparked the writing bug when I finally got home. I started writing non-stop and playing constantly, so it felt natural to start trying to learn to produce; I saved up for a summer and bought an old 4-track tape recorder and made the first demos that I threw up on Myspace back in 2006. Once my parents realized I was going to take music seriously (lord knows I wasn’t turning in my homework) they started taking me to bars for gigs and nurturing my impulse to create, which is honestly the biggest blessing in my life.

TMN: What were some of your favorite musical acts growing up?

I really just loved music generally. As a younger kid it was straight 90’s boyband pop; Nsync and Michael Jackson were massive for me, but as I got older and started playing gigs I became enamored with rock music and rock history. The Beatles are definitely the most important band in my life up to present day, but acts like The Who, Sex Pistols, and The Clash were paradigm-shifting for me. I grew up in the middle of the emo explosion as well, so for a certain few years it was non-stop Fall Out Boy, Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday, Gym Class Heroes, Panic!, Get Up Kids and My Chem before Kanye’s “Graduation”, Nas’ “Illmatic”, Wu Tang, and the early Odd Future mixtapes woke me up to hip hop later in middle school. I also got really into Lady Gaga for a moment in high school; she struck me as very rock n’ roll from the get go and I fell in love with how fearless she was. There were probably more, but I’d say that set of influences created the framework I listened to music through until I was living on my own and discovered funk.

TMN: Instead of college, you chose to move to Nashville for music, what made you pursue that straight out of high school?

I’d been making the drive to Nashville every day for a few years with my Dad — we had an agreement that if I stayed on top of my grades I could continue trying to develop as an artist so I would go to co-writes, or go to vocal coaching, or play writer’s rounds, just always trying to develop a network. So around October in my senior year I had a mentor say to me “You can put music on hold for 4 years and sink yourself into debt, you can half-ass school and music, or you can go all-in on music and use the network you’ve been building to hit the ground running and start working.” So I chose the latter and tried to not look back. I actually love learning though, so even without college I still spent the next four years watching 1-3 lectures online each week or sitting in on lectures at Vanderbilt.

TMN: In three words how would you describe your sound?

Pop without borders.

TMN: Can you tell us how your song “Episode” came together?

Tony and I got set up on a session together back in November and just vibed instantly. His studio is a bit of a fantasy space for me — as soon as I walked in I started geeking out over his instruments and gear and that was all it took. We really didn’t even talk that much beforehand, we just started throwing out a few albums we were both digging at the time [Smino’s “blkswn” and MXXWLL’s “Beats Vol. 1”] and that sparked a pretty immediate groove that started with the song’s opening bass line. Tony & I went back and forth instrumentally and the song more or less created itself in the span of an hour or so.

TMN: Who are some artists you’d like to collaborate with in the coming years?

Flying Lotus, Kevin Parker (from Tame Impala), MXXWLL, and Robert Glasper would be a dream to jam with. I’m also in love with Declan McKenna — I would marry him if I could, but writing with him would be just as wonderful. Monte Booker is also making some incredible music and would be a blast to collaborate with.

TMN: What’s 2018 looking like for you?

Right now I’m just trying to stay focused: keep getting the music out to as many people as possible, keep writing better material, and keep playing better shows in front of new people. I’ll be dropping more music through the year and will hopefully get out on the road a bit. I’m really just grateful for the opportunity to create and for it to connect with people.

Proper Villains – Twenty-Four Seven / Kutumaini [TMN Premiere]

Seeing talented producers go on hiatus isn’t something we look forward to as music listeners, but it’s a reality. The good thing is that a hiatus doesn’t have to be forever. Proper Villains went into the shadows for a bit, but now is back premiering his two new songs on Psycho Disco! here in the dojo.

The New York producer is hitting us with a one-two punch of club-driven house records. The first, “Twenty-Four Seven” is a smash that will keep you going all night long with its vivacious grooves and deep, bustling drums. The b-side “Kutumaini” shares a more upbeat, tribal sound that invigorates with its hypnotizing tones. Together these tracks are a major welcome back from one hell of a producer that we’re looking forward to hearing more from this year. He’s not going missing again, so stay tuned.

[Indie-Pop] Yoke Lore – Fake You

Brooklyn based multi-instrumentalist, dancer, visual artist and indie-pop auteur Adrian Galvin (formerly of Walk the Moon) has flitted around our hallowed pages for over two years now. Much to this writer’s unwavering glee, Galvin has routinely spun lush webs of synth-soaked indie-pop under his Yoke Lore moniker since its inception.  At the tail end of 2017 Yoke Lore kept his fans satiated with the release of an excellent EP, Goodpain (which included a remix companion as well), and is now following that up with the impending release of another extended play: Absolutes.

“Fake You” is our first taste from Absolutes, which as a collection of songs aims to explores the grey areas between black and white ideas while building upon the lush, sonic palette of his past works. “Fake You” toys within Galvin’s established aural foundation, including rapturously popping snares and bouncy two-step percussion, but emotively speaking digs much deeper than nearly all of the surface level synth-pop we routinely get bombarded with. Accompanying the release of Absolutes, Yoke Lore will also be joining FRENSHIP on the road for a North American tour. Stream “Fake You” above and check out Yoke Lore’s tour dates after the jump below!

SHEAFS – Shock Machine [TMN PREMIERE]

I always scoff when people say “there aren’t any good guitar-centric acts right now.” I can certainly attest to plenty that are flying under the radar, while glancing over their shoulders at giants like Wolfmother, Eagles of Death Metal, and Queens of the Stone Age. Sure, I’ll concede that latter have been around for a minute, but that doesn’t absolve them from the fact that they exist and still draw crazy crowds worldwide.

You’re not here to read about them though, nor will you find me covering them. However, I will introduce you to an act you might not familiar with just yet, but they’re gaining some serious momentum. Enter Sheffield-based SHEAFS, a a riotous 5-piece that’s getting love from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and Radio X alike.

Today’s offering is on the airwaves already, but hasn’t come online until just now. “Shock Machine” follows up their breakthrough single “This is Not a Protest,” and it’s rife with ample attitude and a driving lead riff. Energy and edge aside, it boasts a intriguing structure that brings ripping hard, anthemic choruses and a wicked, psychedelic breakdown.

If you’re digging this tune, be sure to check their tour schedule. They’re currently in the midst of their debut headline tour, which includes 14 dates. You better act quick though, London, Sheffield, and Nottingham are already sold out.

[Electro] J-Kwon – Tipsy (Birthdayy Partyy Remix)

Birthdayy Partyy continue to roll out releases at an astonishing pace. The twin brothers came through to make Monday better with their remix of “Tipsy” by J-Kwon from 2004. It’s not something you see a lot of remixes for, but we’re glad they took this one on.

“Tipsy” was huge for a lot of us when we were in middle school, despite the song totally not being tween friendly. Now as adults we get to enjoy it in full force with a whole lot of electro bass thanks to these Chicago producers. They’ve dabbled in different sounds since their debut in Janurary and continue to expand with this Rezz-friendly remix. As with all of their previous releases, Birthdayy Partyy have dropped this as a free download.

[Indie] gabriel black – jump (feat. Sofi de la Torre)

For anybody who loves music, Cloudkid should be a name that’s familiar to you. The esteemed Youtube channel has made the move to expand into a label and have put forth a lovable release from gabriel black called “jump” that features Sofi de la Torre.

On his Soundcloud, gabriel says he hopes that we “fuck with it” and his wish has come to fruition. We’re all about “jump” and its chilled out sound. The subtle guitar licks and the dreamy vocals lure us away from reality and take us off to a relaxing place away from worry. For those of you looking to grab a copy of “jump” or add it to your playlist, the song is available on digital platforms. Furthermore, Cloudkid created an app around the song to augment your “jump” experience.

[Music Video] Rob $tone – Lemon Grove feat. Malik Burgers

There’s one person who has been super busy as of late and that’s rapper Rob $tone. After a slew of video releases, including one for his single “Lemon Grove” with Malik Burgers, Rob has ventured on his $tone Cold Tour with dates across the west coast.

The song pays homage to Rob’s birthplace and shares a uniquely California rap style that many across the world have come to know and love, however as always Rob puts his own spin on things. In the video we get images taken from Lemon Grove alongside the song being performed by its emcees. If you haven’t checked out all of Rob’s latest, we highly recommend you do. Lastly, if you’re out on the west side, make sure to grab tickets to his shows via his website.

[Electronic] BoTalks – Fuck It feat. Caroline Pennell

Connecting from Sweden to America, the BoTalks duo may be an unlikely pair geographically, but musically they’re perfect. They’ve also just begun, so getting on board early with this project before things really pop could make you the cool kid.

BoTalks just dropped their single “Fuck It” featuring Caroline Pennell and it’s absolutely magnificent. From its overall electro pop sound to the rich melodies to all the nitty gritty details, BoTalks went in on this. Mondays are usually tough, but this track is making it all better for us. We hope it will do the same for you and if it does, add a copy of it to your digital library.

Altopalo – Blur/Frozen [TMN PREMIERE]

Part R&B. Part alternative. Part electronic. Completely unique.

Comprised of Rahm Silverglade, a solo artist who’s also releasing material through Terrible Records, guitarist Mike Haldeman (who moonlights as a member of TMN-favorite Moses Sumney’s band), and Jesse Blelenberg and Dillon Tracy, Altopalo is the breath of experimental fresh air you’ve been waiting for.

“Blur” is a wickedly wild ride, sandwiched up between a bizarre, yet ultimately comforting intro and outro. The musical influences and techniques vary widely, showcasing the depth of this young act’s abilities. Included in that skill set are spattering of guitar notes that perfectly jar against a backdrop of faded vocals, atmospheric hiss, and industrial percussion. While it is outside the norm, fans of the mainstream should be attracted to the familiar R&B vibes.

The other offering on this two-track release is “Frozen,” which is delightfully avant-garde. A steady kickdrum is offset by a breakbeat-style piano sample, which provide an inventive soundscape for Rahm’s softly-sung vocals. The song saunters along beautifully with just those elements for quite some time, before coming together with more percussion, vocal chops, and sections of strings in a closing crescendo.

This is one of the more intriguing pieces I’ve heard in a while, the best part is — this is the first offering from this burgeoning act’s full album, dubbed frozenthere. Be on the lookout for that.

[Underground House/Techno] MeeT – Dubs & Dubs (Original mix)

MeeT is an artist who resides out of Mexico city, but he has been a part of the minimal techno scene on several different labels around the world. These labels include Drag Music, Club66, Miniatura Records — just to name a few.

When listening to the single ‘Dubs & Dubs’ I can hear the tropical sounds of Mexico, with a groovy arrangement and minimal signature sounds. This type of vibe is always eerie, now if this genre is your thing then you anticipate each and every new instrument/sound that is introduced to the track. This groove is a nice addiction to the minimal techno world.

[Underground House/Techno] Keinemusik – Guilt Trip (Frankey & Sandrino Remix)

Coming in hot with a nice remix of “Guilt Trip”. Franky & Sandrino put such a nice interpretation of their own on this one. Franky & Sandrino are somewhat you call home town hero’s of Berlin. They have been in the biz for over a decade with releases on labels such as Innervisions, Drumoet Community and Mood Music.

All the balances of arrangements make sense to the listeners of house and techno people.

[Underground House/Techno] Garzia – Lonely Planets

Baile Music label is out of Frankfurt am Main. A very strong minimal label that I have personally followed since it launched in 09′. Although I am not familiar with Garzia as a artist, but I can vouch for this release with Baile Music. Garzia achieves deep, dubby grooves with a strong presence of a intelligent production on this one. Out of the entire release this one is my fav.

Garzia – “Lonely Planets” is set to release on March 5th 2018

[Underground House/Techno] Runnin’ – Wajatta (Reggie Watts & John Tejada)

Uh — whoa! First of all John Tejada is a techno genius and Reggie Watts is a brilliant musician. I can remember watching a Reggie Watts video “I just want to” before it went viral. With this video I was completely blown away by Reggie’s voice and his performance, he had me hooked with his new corky musical composition and techniques. We all might know by now Reggie is a permanent fixture on late night tv. John Tejada, where do I start, from Austria, been producing since the late 90’s, has been on every single major house/techno label there ever was. John’s remixes and originals are always top tier of the music food chain. So for these two major influencers to combined forces is quite unique, but not shocking. I love to see all walks of the music spectrum collaborate on all levels.

[Electronic] Blood Cultures – Scenes From A Midnight Movie (OTR Remix)

Atlanta producer OTR has stepped away from dropping originals to release his official remix of “Scenes From A Midnight Movie” for the New Jersey creative Blood Cultures. This smooth remix is just what you need to end the day on the right note.

The original has been out for quite some time, pushing forth a retro indie sound, while OTR updates it and shifts the sound into his own territory. OTR’s aural move takes the track into a more atmospheric zone. It’s one of those tracks you can just throw on repeat and bask in it’s timelessness. Grab some headphones and see for yourself!

[Electronic] Moods – Comfortable feat. HIGH HØØPS

Rotterdam producer Moods has returned with another sexy original. “Comfortable” comes to us through the Boogie Angst pipeline and features New Zealand’s own HIGH HØØPS on the vocals. Together these two put together a hell of a record.

“Comfortable” will make you feel just that, extremely comfortable. It’s a beautiful barrage of sensual tones and textures that melt away any emotional pain you may have. It’s essentially a musical pharmaceutical. From the riveting guitar riffs to the ethereal soundscapes to every single little detail from both producer and performer, “Comfortable” does it all right. Do yourself a solid and grab this one from digital stores.

[Music Video] Santino Corleon – No Baby Momma

Every American’s guilty pleasure, the Maury Show – or Jerry Springer if you’re feeling extra rowdy – has just inspired a dope music video from Santino Corleon. His track “No Baby Momma” off his Therapy LP received a rambunctious music video treatment that we can’t get enough of her ein the dojo.

The actual “No Baby Momma” song is a hip-hop treasure, blending in comically playful elements to an otherwise hard-hitting heater. With the music video we get a taste of the Maury show alongside other imagery centered upon Santino. This is one of our favorite music videos of recent memory – it’s accessible, engaging and a whole lot of fun to watch. Having the song be incredible also helps the project. Enjoy this one and make sure to check out Santino’s full LP on iTunes.

[Hip-Hop] Sean Turk – Good Good

If you’ve been following us for a while, Sean Turk is a name that should be familiar to you. His signature style of bedroom bass has satisfied our ears for quite some time, but now he’s stepped away from it to deliver a hip-hop gem. His single “Good Good” has been released by Hiiigher Records.

“Good Good” is Sean Turk through and through; written, performed and produced by the New York creative. This is the second example of Sean making hip-hop, both of which have been successes, so don’t be surprised if he continues this trend and takes over the urban world with his music. His crossover potential is huge, just have a listen to this and his older records to get an idea. Most importantly, grab “Good Good” on digital platforms or add it to your Spotify playlists.

[Music Video] Michael Push – Tell Me Why (feat. Stevie)

Summer can’t come soon enough. With the sunshine comes a hole heap of catchy house records fit for the occasion. Some of those have come early, including “Tell My Why” by Michael Push and the vocalist Stevie. Today we’re sharing with you not only the song, but the lyric video. Trust us, it’s one you’re going to want to know the words to.

“Tell Me Why” is the perfect song for your poolside playlists. It may not be quite warm enough for the beach or a pool, but this one will serve you well even if you’re just at a house party or in the club. Michael Push’s melodic musing has just enough pop elements to make it crossover track, but not so much that it waters things down like many producers have been doing. “Tell Me Why” is currently out now on digital platforms.

CAPYAC feat. MOONZz – Afterhours [TMN Premiere]

With SXSW just around the corner, there’s going to be a lot of choices for who to see there. One such duo that needs to be on your list is CAPYAC. These intriguing characters have taken over the dojo today with the premiere of “Afterhours” in collaboration with one of our favorite vocalists, MOONZz.

Together these creators put forth a future pop original whose tones will be echoing throughout the dojo for quite some time. We just can’t get enough of it. “Afterhours” is good any time of the day or night, it doesn’t have to be quite literally after hours. The week is almost over and we know a lot of you need that extra bump of inspiration to get through it – we’re proud to say we’ve got it for you here. Throw this one on repeat and let the beautiful textures shower over you.
