[Pop] Bohnes – Coffins

Alexander DeLeon aka Bohnes, the former frontman for the rockband The Cab, releases the lead single ‘Coffins’ off his upcoming album 206 ActII, which he wrote for his girlfriend super model Josephine Skriver in Nashville.

Sticking to the organics with piano, and guitar, the morbidly titled song is far from it, but rather celebrates and cherishes spending a lifetime with someone, and that’s beautiful. It’s not cuffin season but ‘coffin season’!

I hope they build coffins for two…

[Electronic] k?d – Find Paradise EP

Few producers have the trailblazing effect k?d has had. Not only has he taken over the game with his edgy electro beats, but he’s inspired other producers to expand their sonic repertoire and take a stab at the classic, but newly redefined style.

Now k?d is taking his own steps to advance his abilities and discography by way of his debut EP, Find Paradise. The six track project shows for the first time what k?d is capable of when compiling his records together under one roof. It’s an amazing EP that doesn’t have a bad track on it. Not only did k?d release Find Paradise, but he’s also embarking on a tour to coincide. Definitely grab tickets if he stops in your town!

[House] Dombresky – Futurmastic

If you call yourself a lover of house music and don’t know Dombresky, then you’re a living contradiction. The French producer recently released his single “Futurmastic” on Insomniac Records and it’s one of his catchiest tracks yet.

“Futurmastic” shares a deep sentiment and affinity for moonlit melodies that caress your ears as they enter. A lot of producers have been releasing festival-centric records as of late given Summer has just passed and Dombresky shifts the tone here for a more intimate, clubby style. It’s that time of year, get ready for the vibes!

[Hip-Hop] 11 LIT3S – KING KAIS PLANET

Portuguese born singer and producer, 11 LIT3S releases his latest single ‘KING KAIS PLANET,’ debuted on XO Collective’s new division, XO Urban. The Portuguese talent’s music includes catchy hooks layered over trap-style beats mixed with hard hitting punchlines. This latest single is a track you won’t stop bumpin’.  Read below the inspiration behind the single, and press play.

‘KING KAIS PLANET was inspired by an apartment with an amazing view of Los Angeles and a very lasting experience I was having with a girl I was seeing at the time. The name King Kai’s planet was taken actually from Dragon Ball Z. KKP was a planet in which the characters would go to to train and recharge their energies. I want to create a parallel between this fictional and non fictional reality as in this LA apartment helicopters would  literally fly below us because we were so high.’

10 Highlights from Treasure Island Music Festival 2018 [Festival Review]

After a year-long hiatus and relocation, Treasure Island Music Festival has returned–this time taking place in Oakland’s Middle Harbor Shoreline Park. What has consistently been our favorite festival in the Bay was able to make the transition incredibly smooth retaining the aspects that have made it so successful–beautiful views and no overlapping sets. Check out our 10 favorite moments from this year’s festivities below and give a listen to our TI-dedicated episode of TMN Radio which includes all the artists in this roundup as well as some from previous years.

JPEGMAFIA
An early slot and small crowd didn’t prevent JPEGMAFIA from having the most electrifying performances of the weekend. The talented Baltimore rapper and producer brought a fierce energy to his one-man show. In a rare move for a festival, Peggy (as he’s lovingly known by fans) spent more time out in the crowd than on stage which made for the perfect way to kickstart the weekend. – Ash

George Fitzgerald
English producer/DJ George Fitzgerald’s early Saturday set was a delightful mish-mosh of intricately layered samples and synth-lines, and featured live vocals. The set capped off with oft-remixed track “Burns”. – Geoff

Polo & Pan
In only their second show in the San Francisco Bay Area, Polo and Pan pleasantly surprised a largely unfamiliar audience with the best DJ set of the weekend. The Parisian duo impressed with flawless mixing and seamless blending of all sorts of eccentric, quirky, and dancy beats. – G

Laff Trax
The collaborative project between Toro y Moi and Nosaj Thing was definitely one of the most intriguing sightings on this year’s lineup. When it turned out to be a back to back DJ set, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but the result was the perfect sunset dance party. The mix ranged from essential House cuts, a couple unreleased gems and Toro y Moi’s stellar remix of Nosaj Things “UG.” – A

Pusha T
The president of G.O.O.D. music hyped the crowd with the first set in full darkness on Saturday night. Replete with his signature “yeeugh” ad-lib (I imagine everyone has their own spelling of this), Pusha ran through the discography with polish and poise. Highlights included his performances of Cruel Summer track “New God Flow” and Daytona “Come Back Baby”. – G

Sunset/Scenery
One of the unsung stars of Treasure Island Music Festival’s triumphant return was the location itself. After being moved from the namesake Treasure Island nestled between San Francisco and Oakland, the festival found a new home at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland. It proved to be a worthy successor to the shores of Treasure Island, providing a stunning skyline view of the city, complete with perfectly placed sunsets illuminating the iconic Bay Bridge and lighting downtown San Francisco ablaze. – G

Pond
Pond are best known for their affiliation with Tame Impala, with whom they share a few band members. While Tame Impala are tight and polished, Pond choose to draw outside of the lines with their impeccable take on psych rock. Their performance brought that sound to life perfectly and drew a pretty large audience for such an early show. -A

U.S. Girls
U.S. Girls were probably the most pleasant surprise of this year’s festival. The ensemble, equipped with horns and some pretty sweet dance moves, left the crowd in awe by the end of the performance. -A

Jungle
Fresh off their stellar new album, Jungle showcased once again why they are a must-see act with their radiant and soulful sound. Kevin Parker put it best during Tame Impala’s headlining set–”Jungle makes God’s music.” – A

Tame Impala
Much anticipated headliner Tame Impala did not disappoint– delivering a wildly satisfying finale to a spectacular weekend. Frontman Kevin Parker and band took us on a musical journey of Tame Impala over the years; songs were performed from all three of their studio LPs. An undeniably great moment was when they played “Jeremy’s Storm”, the finale track of their debut LP, a song they had not performed together since 2012. Parker and crew capped off yet another successful Treasure Island Music Festival. – G

[Denver Concert Preview] FIDLAR – Gothic Theater – 10/26

Since 2011, Brothers Max & Elvis Kuehn along with Zac Carper and Brandon Schwartzel have been setting the indie scene ablaze as FIDLAR, behind a unique blend of inebriated party punk that has since evolved into a more mature rock project bearing the same musical muscle and raw intensity. [Electronic] Wilsonn – Saturn Return

Wilsonn‘s new single “Saturn Return” was released via Australian record label Upside Music a few weeks ago and shows a new side to the sound of the singer/songwriter based from down under.

The production on this single is a lot more hefty compared to the older releases by Wilsonn thanks to the dynamic use of sythensizers and a perfectly placed string section. As always, Wilsonn’s vocal takes lead and steals the show however. Overall, it’s another great single from one of the more underrated artists you’re going to find.

[Electronic] 10Digits – Rebirth LP

Toronto’s 10Digits has been steadily gaining steam, while stealthily unveiling his next album, Rebirth. The ten track album is a diverse dive into the funky mind of 10Digits whose music has captivated us before – and now again with even more power.

Rebirth has a bunch of collaborators making it a team project overall with 10Digits manning the helm. Throughout the project 10Digits leans on urban genres like R&B, hip-hop and funk while implementing trails of other styles on top. Each single stands on its own while tying the project at large together in a special way. It’s a fun, chill listen through and through. Rebirth is definitely one of the better albums of the year, so share it around!

[Trap] Eskei83 – Make The Record Skip

Although Eskei83 is hailed as one of the best DJ’s in the world, he’s highly underrated in the greater EDM community. As a producer, he’s ace and on the decks he shreds like few others – let’s get this German some US festival bookings eh?

Recently Eskei dropped his original single “Make The Record Skip” on his label, Crispy Crust Records. With its classic undertones, trappy vibe and just enough future flare to give it some edge, this single is all hype. It’ll get even the most reserved individuals on their feet and dancing. Let this one get you fired up for the weekend… even though it’s only Monday. Add it to your library today.

[R&B/Pop] R.LUM.R – With My Words

R.LUM.R has so much going for him. With a performance on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, numerous top tier support features including Rolling Stone, Billboard and Complex and several hits that just won’t quit, R.LUM.R is on his way to being a household name.

The Nashville living Floridan recently dropped his single “With My Words” and it’s Reggie at his best. He blends a few genres to perfection while singing away with his alluring voice as usual. With so much steam and this sweet, poppy R&B cut on his hands, it’s only a matter of time before R.LUM.R is a mainstream sensation.

[Drum & Bass] Feint – Empathy Box

The Rotterdam label Korsakov Music recently came out with an album, The Korsakov Compilations Vol. 1, that piqued our interest. One of the tracks on the project comes from a name that excites us every time it enters our ears: Feint.

The drum and bass master has done it again with his single “Empathy Box.” The melodic beauty is one of Feint’s most memorable. He keeps things simple and you can tell he had a good time making this track. Drum and bass doesn’t always tickle our fancy, however when the music is this good, it’s hard not to want to share with y’all. Enjoy the single and don’t forget to check out the rest of the compilation.

[Dubstep] WHIPPED CREAM – BLOOD

If you’ve been following WHIPPED CREAM, then you know she’s been killing it lately. However, there come definitive points in an artists career where they hit that next echelon and the Vancouver producer is undergoing that transition right now.

Her latest record “BLOOD” is one of the many various reasons as to why things are on the up and up. The absolutely gritty style is not something new for the producer, but she’s been really hitting her stride on some next level $#!+ and this is Deadbeats release is evidence of that. It’s unrelenting, abrasive in the best ways and it belongs in your digital library. Add it today.
