[Hip-Hop] JDP – Get U Some

Member of the production group Swim Team, JDP presents the anthem to your Friday night, his latest single ‘Get U Some,’ off his forthcoming album ‘Where Were You When,’ so go ahead and get you some.

Referencing the late great Gil Scott Heron’s “the revolution will not be televised,” JDP is out to start a revolution, and it starts by getting you moving.

He shares: “Gil Scott-Heron’s “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” is so impactful that even if people don’t know the man, they know the phrase. In the hook I’m saying “the revolution is on the floor, not televised, and when your bodies in my hand, it never lies.” Because sometimes people only give themselves permission to let go and find some freedom on the dancefloor.”

Stream JDP “Get U Some” below, and keep your ears out for the album.

[Electronica] MDWS – Clouds

New Zealand’s North Island, the producer, singer/songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Callum Meadows aka MDWS presents the lead single “Clouds” off his upcoming EP. Check out what MDWS had to say about this ethereal piece, inspired by that weightless morning feeling, and stream “Clouds” below.

“Clouds” is about a time I watched the sunrise alone in Gold Coast. After returning to my apartment after a late night out, I walked out onto my balcony instead of heading to bed. As the sun started to rise and I stared at the ocean below me, I remember suddenly feeling weightless. It was as if I was sitting amongst the clouds. And for some reason I felt completely free in that moment. I think I wrote “Clouds” because I was chasing after the feeling I had that one morning

GRDNS – Hydraulic Lover [TMN VIDEO PREMIERE]

Crunchy, groovy, and layered with delicious psych-pop elements, “Hydraulic Lover” has me transporting back to my younger years, minus the teenage angst and awkwardness.

Brought to you by Bradford-based GRDNS, made up of Jacob Lyons (vocals/guitar), Sam Gledhill (guitar), Cameron Harrison (bass) and John Fitzpatrick (drums), this tune should serve well to blend the gap from those just discovering that distortion is a wonderful thing and those of us who spent our teenage years with headphones full of it. Taken from their debut EP, it’s brimming with heavy guitar work, approachable lyrics, and engaging backing vocals. It drips with 90’s grunge and does so in an effortless way.

Hydraulic Lover is about accepting all the bad attitudes, stupid shit and low vibe activities you get up to when you’re young. It’s the idea that song people treat each other like sexbots and the action of love is more hydraulic than passionate

The single was released just a bit ago, but today we’re offering a first look and listen to their accompanying music video, which highlights show and studio footage combined.

[Music Video] Stealing Oceans – On My Wave

Nashville group Stealing Oceans, lead by Brian Thompson releases the music video for their infectious single “On My Wave,” showcasing shots from the live shows, and cuts from the good times on the road and in LA as a band. Promoting peace, love, and positivity, Brian shares below what the song means to him:

“It’s about vibrating on a higher frequency and not letting anything affect your mind state. Our camp is on the come up and everything just feels right at the moment which has heightened our overall vibe. The first verse is about certain people who I have weeded out of my life because I realized they were using our friendship as an opportunity for me to provide them with something they didn’t have. In the second verse, I talk about my relationship with my fans. I love them...”

HighSchool Jacob – Nobody But You [TMN PREMIERE]

LA-based HighSchool Jacob has been making some waves as of late, releasing a handful of tracks in only a few months time. It’s not hard to understand the magnetism to this curious alt-pop act. His style is truly unique, which is getting increasingly more difficult to say anymore.

“Nobody But You” is a testament to his talents, and the most recent release that grabbed my attention. Lead in by soft, humming synths, and a warm, treated vocal, this fresh single doesn’t take long to build up intrigue. A vocal harmony wanders in next, brought in tandem with some spattered percussion, eventually building to a big, beautiful, choppy lead synth. The eventual crescendo is powerful, spiraling upwards until another emotional breakdown.

When I wrote this song, I wanted to experiment with unusual sounds (such as the sound of my mouse clicking) to provide an intimate and vulnerable atmosphere, and it was when I reached the chorus however that I discovered I wanted to express the other side of those intimate emotions with an energetic and big expression of that previously mentioned desperation. – HighSchool Jacob

The end result is something oddly nostalgic, though inevitably difficult to cite why. It just feels familiar. My best explanation? I don’t have one. Just sit back and drink it in.

The second single to his upcoming “Retro Ghost” album, “Sideways” is a head-banging testimonial to the never-fading genre of electro-bass. At the epicenter of this awe-inspiring track, Kermode manipulates dangerous frequencies that cascade atop rigorous transitions, illuminating his signature dexterity. A vigilante of assertive EDM, it comes as no surprise that Kermode’s latest drop is as phenomenal as his previous releases. [Electronic] Sleep Thieves ‘Fortress’ EP

Described as the definition of ‘disco noir’, Dublin-dwelling trio Sleep Thieves  release their new EP Fortress.

They tell it best by sharing, “We’ve been recording for the last few years, playing the odd show to try some songs out live. We’ve ended up with a massive amount of material all with varying vibes. This is probably due to being in a perpetual state of studio flux. The boom is back in Dublin, this generally means art is out and upmarket hip bars and coffee places are in. We’re in our fourth studio in the last two years. Just when we get settled and get into a groove we get moved on by the landlord and our studio is gutted and becomes a Karaoke bar, Office space, Starbucks.

We’ve now started to nest in a new studio outside the city with a different atmosphere. So what does all this mean to this release you probably ask? Well, we realized upon reflection that we’re a band that draws a lot from the atmosphere and the environment we record in and thus we’ve ended up with 4 different sets of songs recorded in each place. Fortress EP is a collection of songs drawing from each, beginning life in the first studio and evolving as our transient existence bounced us from home to home.  These songs are a snapshot of how time, surroundings, upheaval and change can sculpt the creative process in unexpected yet welcome ways.

Releasing this EP as a sonic collection of this time marks the end of this period of transience with a more permanent home sourced.  If your home is said to be your castle, we’re (finally) making our new studio our Fortress.”

[Indie Rock] Suns Up – Love You Back

It’s the middle of November. For a Colorado resident, that means we’re looking at snow on the ground, scraping ice off our windshields, and spending a great deal of our time indoors. While that may be my reality at the moment, Sussex-based Suns Up has my mind fully engulfed in daydreams of road trips to beachside towns, late nights by campfires, and rocking nothing but flip flops for months on end.

In just their second release, this brand spankin’ new outfit has the sound that’s extremely polished, calling on associations of The 1975, Phoenix, and Vampire Weekend. It’s bright, sunny, and about as catchy as anything I’ve heard over the past year.

‘Love You Back’ is this first song we wrote as a band, so it feels great to share it with the world” the band explain. “It was recorded in a beautiful old chapel in the countryside which lent to the depth and character of the recording, but also gave us the space and freedom to experiment with different things to really have fun with the track. – Suns Up

Don’t take my word for it, though. Press play above and get ready to boogie.

[Funky] Little People – Tonight

Aside from a spattering of remixes here and there, it’s been quite some time since I’ve had something from Little People to sink my teeth into. Luckily for me, and everyone else who’s familiar with him, his two full length LPs and a handful of EPs have kept his fans at bay.

That’s one of the beautiful things about Laurent Clerc. His body of work, especially Mickey Mouse Operation and We Are But Hunks of Wood, is so thoughtfully planned and crafted, that it’s allowed fans enough slack to curb their appetite. But, with a full four years since his last EP, it’s easy to say that fans across the globe will be ecstatic to add another collection into the mix, especially if he decides to release on vinyl again.

“Tonight” marks the announcement of his next full-length, Landloper, which is due out on January 11th via Future Archive recordings. While it’s dubbed as future bass on soundcloud, this tune is far from the droves of bedroom producers that ambiguously blend together. A playful vocal sample is spattered throughout, layered in with waves of intricate synths, all set to a laid back, groovy beat. It’s warm and thoughtful, but not overbearing at any given moment. In short, it’s the perfect teaser to the upcoming enveloping experience we’re about to enjoy.

[Electronic] Chris Siegel – I Can’t feat. lulunah

Milwaukee’s musical mage Chris Siegel partnered up with Madison’s lulunah for a new vibey treat your ears will be huffing down over and over again. You can stream it here, or if you’re still into this sort of thing – download it for free.

“I Can’t” is more than simply a hit song. The two creatives work together in stride to deliver an enjoyable sonic adventure that blends together a sad realization with a promising sentiment. The spirited instrumental at times can be somewhat somber, fitting in line with the direction of the vocals – performed sensationally by lulunah – but at others gives a sense of optimism. For anybody that’s been in a relationship (sorry any Forever Aloners out there), this should hit near home.

New York’s RYNO is back with a brand new single after a little hiatus. The track “Who We Are” is a testament to RYNO’s style, one that has fused pop with electronic for some time.

Even with a host of cool takes, this original is a stand out not only in terms of quality, but because it feels like RYNO is really hitting a stride. Enjoy this one and stay tuned for more.
