Juuku – To You [TMN Premiere]

The anonymous talent Juuku is coming into the dojo with the premiere of a brand new single called “To You.” This emotional original is the first independent release from Juuku after having worked alongside Proximity and Mr. Suicide Sheep previously. “To You” is dedicated to all fans, old and new, for continuing to support this magnificent talent.

“To You” is a highly emotional future bass production that works in cinematic elements that really breathe added life into the track. Juuku has always managed to do things a little different from the usual lot of creators and this track is another example of that iconic signature. Be sure to add “To You” to your playlists for this Winter and stay tuned for more from Juuku in 2020!

Drex Carter – City After City (Music Video) [TMN Premiere]

Orlando rapper Drex Carter and fellow Central Florida beatsmith Kkami connect for a new collaborative EP called THAW. The three song project is a hybrid approach that features lo-fi, bedroom pop, and hip-hop influences that blend together as smooth as butter.

“High Hopes” features a verse from Mitch$$$, another bubbling Orlando based artist on the rise. THAW came out yesterday and today comes a trippy, glitched-out music video for “City After City” that takes us on a wild ride and fits in well with the audio. Keep a tab on Drex Carter, Kkami, and Mitch$$$ in 2020.

[Future/Trap] juuku & squired – reaching for u

“Reaching For U” is a recent drop that connected Juuku and Squired with the end result being a spacey and emotional bass masterpiece. The gripping future track features airy and majestic synths, along with a stunning vocal on the top line that helps level up the collaboration into something really pretty.

“Reaching For U” has me reaching for that mouse to click play again and again. Keep an eye on these two. 2019 has been a big year for them both and 2020 is shaping up to be even bigger. For now, enjoy “Reaching For U” and make sure to add it to your playlists!

Ariza ft. Miette Hope – Find Me

Hailing from Bogotá, Colombia, Los Angeles-based Ariza has been turning some heads as of late. From crafting his own tunes to playing guitar with the likes of The Staves, Phillip Lassiter, and more, it’s not hard to see why.

His latest release, which I have the pleasure of bringing you today, is a haunting collaboration with Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Miette Hope. Titled “Find Me” this sauntering glitch-pop gem is the perfect accompaniment to your Halloween plans, best served for after the after-party, as you wind back down into reality from your imbibing.

…It’s a track heavily inspired by James Blake, Portishead, some trip-hop vibes, but also a very modern sound. I think it’s one of my darkest tracks. It comes at a very interesting time of my life, culminating the first stage of recovery of tearing three tendons in my wrist. I can say about a month ago things were quite more heavy, but putting out a track like this and moving on, is incredibly healing in itself. – Ariza

Past post-Halloween activities, this addictive tune is a dark and twisting addition to your low-key playlists. Make sure to add it on Spotify and Soundcloud.

MEUTE’S Thomas Burhorn on Touring and Debut Album [TMN INTERVIEW]

MEUTE is one of the more refreshing things we’ve come across lately. Made up of a collection of 11 talented, traditional drummers and horn players, this German-based group delivers eye-opening, smile-inducing, and thoughtfully crafted renditions of some of the world’s largest dance anthems, including Flume, Deadmau5, and Solomun.

In the midst of their first North American tour and debut album release, we had a chance to connect with Founder/Trumpeter Thomas Buhorn to see how this intriguing outfit came to be.

TMN: Thank you for taking a moment to chat! Let’s start with your ‘origin story’ so to speak. Did this project start off with the intention to do what you’re doing now?

TB: To be honest, yes. We were convinced, that the combination of hypnotic techno music played by an acoustic marching band in a very distinguished and energetic way has the potential to be very explosive. Due to the fact that techno music is international and without borders, we always hoped, that we can travel around the world with it. Now we do, and it’s big fun!

TMN: This tour is your first in the States. What does it mean to you guys to be able to fly across the pond in support of your debut live album?

A: It means a lot to us. The US has a big heritage of brass bands, jazz, and also electronic music. We love all that stuff and combined it with our European way of playing music. So we are very proud to show it to the folks here and are very happy that the people seem to like it a lot.

TMN: You’ve already hit a few cities already. How has the reception been so far?

A: The people went crazy – so did we.

TMN: Backing it up a bit — are you traveling with the full ensemble?

A: We always do!

TMN: That has to be quite the undertaking for a travel planner. Are you bringing instruments with you, or renting some over here?

A: Our Tour Manager is working very hard and very good. So it’s possible to bring our own stuff. Most of the instruments are custom made, so we are happy to have them.

TMN: One of our favorite renditions is Flume’s remix of Disclosure’s “You & Me.” Talk us through that day in Görlitzer Park. It seemed like such an experience for those who were there.

A: It was the day of an evening performance in a club in Berlin. Sometimes we go outside during daytime and make some surprise performances. So always stay tuned on our social media, sometimes we give some hints in advance!

TMN: Looking back, how did you come about choosing larger-than-life dance tracks for your interpretations?

A: Just because they invite people to dance, and we can bring something new to the world. The sound that arises out of that combination is quite special.

TMN: Have you ever received any love or kind words from the original artists?

A: We always ask them, and luckily they’ve always liked it. We already did stage performances together with Laurent Garnier, Solomun, and Stephan Bodzin.
(btw you can find some quotes from some of them here: www.meute.eu/about)

TMN: What’s next for you beyond this tour?

A: We will release a new studio album next year. And hopefully, we go on touring around the world!

[Dubstep] Birthdayy Partyy – The Summit

Birthdayy Partyy are usually known for their electro and bass house inspired records, but today they went all out dub. Other than a couple of previous dubstep records, we haven’t had much in this style from the Chicago twins and as of now we’re aching for more of it.

“The Summit” is an inspiring bass original that takes a melodic approach to the genre in a similar vein as Adventure Club and Fox Stevenson. By infusing more musical elements and not simply focusing on aggressive sound design, Birthdayy Partyy took “The Summit” as high as it could go. As always, this BP release has dropped as a free download for anyone who is holding out on streaming.

[Future Pop] Two Can – Gonna Be

Starting their project back in 2014, Two Can has been making music for quite a while now. The duo, made up by the Australian born Sach-Haber brothers, has been building the melodic counterpoint to catchy top line vocals and continue to switch up their sound and style.

“Gonna Be” is Two Can’s first release of 2019 and they’re planning on ending the year strong with this one. The Martyn Ell-featured single is a future pop jam that is radio ready due to it’s clear Jack U influence an crossover style throughout. Excited to hear Two Can is back to stay, and am eager to hear more new music by them soon. Listen to “Gonna Be” and keep a tab on new music, due out by the rising duo soon.

[Pop] GALXARA – KILLA KILLA

Although her name and style evoke the heavens, Galxara hails from far humbler roots. The artist was raised in Florida with her Nicaraguan mother and American father, both of whom were constantly blending the styles and genres of music of both backgrounds. Growing up in such an environment, Galxara took an interest in music early on and it is clear in her vocal talent.

Now based in Los Angeles, the up and coming act has been writing and recording songs for her debut album, due out 2020 via Atlantic Records. “Killa Killa” is just a hint of what’s to come from Galxara. The demo was produced by Jake Sinclair (Panic! At The Disco, Pink, etc) and she is not messing around. When asked about the debut drop, Galxara said “Although Galxara is fantastical, she’s still me,” the singer says, “She’s not a character. Instead, she’s the person I choose to be.”

Barely Great – WEIRD000 [TMN Premiere]

LA’s Barely Great is readying his upcoming EP, Imperfect, complete with five singles out this Friday. Today, Monday, we’ve got an exclusive peak at one of those five tracks thanks to this Music Ninja Premiere!

For all those eccentric bass lovers out there, we’ve got our ears on “WEIRD000.” The industrially influenced trap take has some of the most interesting sound design you’re going to find. The bass designs feel like they are dripping wet straight into your ear while the percussion pounds away in a hypnotic fashion. Expect much more of this excellence on the EP this Friday, but for now, enjoy “WEIRD000” on us.

“With this EP I’m trying to create something unique. I’m not trying to follow any trends of what I think works already. I want to create new sounds in patterns that make people feel new feelings. I want to be my own person.”

[Music Ninja Radio] Episode 155: Drive Time Mix w/ Jeremy Black

Music Ninja Radio is a weekly podcast recorded and broadcast live on San Francisco’s BFF.fm  from 4-6PM PST every Friday.

Soundcloud || iTunes Podcast || Spotify Playlist  || BFF.fm Archive & Tracklist

This episode marks the return of our Drive Time Mix series featuring two hours of house / techno music mixed live. I played some recent favs for the first hour and the multi-talented Jeremy Black took over for the second. Jeremy’s selection was a mix of forward-thinking club tracks inspired by his semi-recent move to Berlin from SF and some of his own original unreleased cuts. If you dig his mix as much as I did, make sure to check out his work as part experimental electronic outfit Awefekt and look out for his solo album which is set to drop at the end of the year. If you’re not familiar with his fantastic former band Apollo Sunshine, give them a spin as well!

[Electro Pop] DayFox – Lioness

The German creative DayFox has blessed us with some good ol’ happy music. The single “Lioness” dropped as a free download and has been marketed alongside DayFox’s catalog as royalty free music for other creatives like vloggers, streamers etc. Which is perfect, because “Lioness” has just the right sound for sync opportunities.

“Lioness” is a poppy electronic anthem that blends breakbeat percussion, heavenly vocal chops and calming keys together in a magnificently beautiful way. DayFox really honed in on making this sound iconic and accessible as possible. It’s not necessarily a groundbreaking tune in any regard, but it certainly is one of the strongest electro pop tracks we’ve heard this year. And now we’re looking forward to even more from Dayfox.

[Pop] KDL – 777 (feat. Ferras)

It’s not often you see producers from across the world coming together to form a duo, but that’s just how KDL came to be. The New Jersey meets Norway duo have hit our radar with their latest single “777” featuring Ferras.

“777” is an emotionally driven pop gem pairing together a bustling instrumental with a grooving vocal performance. It’s reminiscent of some works from The Weeknd, but it still retains an independence that makes the single memorable in its own right. KDL certainly have talent when it comes to writing pop records with influence from other genres and even time periods, so don’t be too surprised if you catch them working with some top tier mainstream talents in the future.

Paco Versailles – Unwind [TMN PREMIERE]

The sun is shining bright and summer is in full swing, especially in Ibiza, Mallorca, Tenerife and the many other beaches Spain has to offer. But why am I bringing up Ibiza? Do we have another EDM banger that will melt your face off with its radiating progressive bass? Not quite, but we have something just as satisfying and perhaps, even more refreshing that speaks to the heart of Spain. We are pleased to introduce you to Paco Varsailles.

Guitarist/composer Vahagni and songwriter/producer Ryan Merchant have combined two very distinct sounds, blending together rhythmic flamenco guitar with a prominent French disco electronic production, paving the way to a new genre they are calling Dancemenco.

The result is simply a fantastic poolside disco track that forces you to enjoy yourself. The flamenco instrumentation spreads across the track providing a new, almost foreign foundation in contrast with the nostalgic, inherently French production that we know so well. Spanish meets French for a European-influenced track that will no doubt be played in the beach parties of Miami.

You can listen to their single Unwind above, and also catch them tonight, June 26th at, The Peppermint in Los Angeles.
