It’s a holiday weekend in the states, so we’ve got a whole lot of extra music for you today. As usual, we’ve got twelve free downloads for you to enjoy over the weekend. Some of these tracks come from talents including benny mayne, Birthdayy Partyy, Jace Mek, PARTY THIEVES x GLADEZ, Midnight Kids and many more. On top of these singles, we’ve included mixes from two of our favorite females WHIPPED CREAM and J Worra. All in all, you should have more than enough music to get your party on over the holiday. Enjoy, stay safe!

[Music Video] Tungevaag & Raaban – Bad Boy

“Bad Boy” is sort of a quintessential dancehall/moombahton track name; it just fits. That name has been attributed to a new single by Tungevaag & Raaban that came with a music video treatment. The duo are no strangers to viral hits and this one just might be added to their list.

The masked musical marauders shift the tempo down for a moombah inspired treat. It’s a major tune that gets even better with the music video. In it the duo crusade across Las Vegas enjoying themselves and the ruckus they get into. Sit back and enjoy the show!

[Dubstep] The Brig x Rob Gasser x Ashley Apollodor – Take A Fall

When we found out The Brig and Rob Gasser were collaborating, we were more than excited. Their collaboration with vocalist Ashley Apollodor on “Take A Fall” has finally come through the pipeline thanks to the good folks over at MA Music.

“Take A Fall” is easily one of our favorite dubstep tracks of the year. From the sound design to the melodies – which is sometimes missing from the dubstep world now – to Ashley’s unforgettable performance, this record has everything a next level record needs. It gets started quickly and doesn’t let up at all. Add it to your digital library today.

[Electronic] Alex Lustig – Wave002

Alex Lustig continues to roll ahead with his solo project with the release of the Wave002 EP. The first installment of the EP series came to us a few months ago and was followed by an A/B side release. After you check out this heavenly array, check out the other projects if you haven’t!

Wave002 comes in at three tracks in length, including a collaboration with the vocalist Akacia. The smooth singles are just what you need to whisky you away after a long, hard week. Many of us out there seek for an escape and Alex delivers a doorway out with each of these singles. As time progresses through each track you travel further and further into the serene landscape that Lustig has built. Wave goodbye to your worries and let go with this one.

[R&B] Estef – Come Around

Nashville’s soulful siren estef has come forth with another cool, original single. “Come Around” is her latest sexy R&B venture and we’re completely in love.

As you would imagine from an estef record, she shines bright with her sensual, alluring performance. Her vocal leads a tremendous combination of instruments, with the beautiful piano really sticking out to our ears. This is estef’s third release so far, but we’re ready for more. Don’t be surprised when you see her name popping up more and more in the future.

[Electronic] Greatness of Saturn – 777

Some people shy away from anything that has to do with 666, but as for “777” you have nothing to worry about. In fact, quite the opposite as Greatness of Saturn‘s debut single is something you’ll rather enjoy

Despite Greatness of Saturn being a new name, STINT is someone us ninjas have been keen on for some time and he takes co-production credits on this one. The raspy, retro-inspired original is an interesting take on dance music, showing off Greatness of Saturn’s unique low-fi sound. Stay tuned for more as “777” is the first single from an upcoming self-titled EP!

The Music Ninja Presents: Mega Summer Playlist 2018

With the dog days of summer upon us, we think it’s important as ever to reflect on the past few months. For us, naturally, that reflection takes the form of our Mega Summer Playlist. These used to be a yearly tradition of ours that unfortunately fell by the wayside, but it is one that we sorely missed. We have been trying to keep the tradition alive with a much smaller taste for fans of our weekly radio show, but we’re finally ready to serve the full meal again…with a little added seasoning. Previously, we would separate the playlists by genre, but to spice things up this time we’re providing everything in one convenient package. With 385 songs and a run-time of nearly 24 hours(!), you’re certain to find at least something you like in here.

What this all means is that we’re big fans of summer at The Music Ninja and we hope you are too. There’s certainly a warmth to the season that results in some great music, but what you may not realize is how many different forms that can take. Our playlist is designed to follow the motions of going through a summer day–from the moment you open your eyes to the instant your head rests back on your pillow–and the wide spectrum of moods and emotions that accompany that journey. We hope you enjoy the ride and discover something new along the way! Listen to the preview below and make sure to follow the playlist on either Spotify or Apple Music to get the full experience.

[Event Review] Bad Bad Hats – Denver, CO – Hi-Dive

Last weekend, Kerry Alexander and her Minneapolis based four-piece Bad Bad Hats brought their fuzzy and addictive blend of indie-folk, rock and sugary pop tropes to one of Denver’s most storied rock venues, the Hi-Dive. The venue in question couldn’t have served as a better backdrop for Bad Bad Hats, who after their most recent LP Lightning Round command their stage with more confidence, playfulness and maturity than we’d ever seen in the past.

The troupe trotted out to a number of Lightning Round high points, including an early and excellent live version of their most recent single “Nothing Gets Me High” to which over half the crowd belted out with the same unflinching sincerity that Alexander herself wields. While mostly alternating between acoustic offerings and garage-leaning indie-rock on their debut album, 2015’s Psychic Reader, Bad Bad Hats’ aural aesthetic has settled nearer to comfortable mid-tempo pop with a scuzzy guitarists’s backbone; and it is one that fits their live performances perfectly. Not to mention the on-stage chemistry between Alexander and her husband, Bad Bad Hats multi-instrumentalist Dan Hoge is as adorable as it is effective.

As the sweatily packed crowd pleaded for an encore, Bad Bad Hats strode back out for perhaps the highlight of the night in the form of “Super America”, which came with an absolutely hilarious explanation and even better performance of the tune. Bad Bad Hats will remain on the road for nearly the rest of 2018, so be sure to check them out if the quartet will be landing in a city near you, and stream Lightning Round on Afternoon Records now on all platforms.

Sam Smiley – Lay Down My Life [TMN Video Premiere]

Florida songwriter by way of Nashville, Sam Smiley delivers action packed visuals for his debut single ‘Lay Down My Life,’ mission impossible style, as he gets the girl, and walks out the hero. After years of writing pop hits for other’s, he’s finally launching into his own artistry. Follow him on Spotify for new music, and fasten your seat belt for the music video below, you’re not ready for it.

‘Lay Down My life’ is inspired from feeling taking for granted in my past relationship. It’s the story of a guy who wants his partner to recognize him for what he does for the relationship, and that he’ll wait for her even if it hurts.

[House] Beyonce Ft Jay Z – Deja Vu (Seelo Bootleg)

Edmonton based DJ/producer Seelo is back with a bootleg of Beyonce and Jay Z’s “Deja Vu.” Opting for a dark bassy vibe, Seelo cooked up a club ready remake. Coming off opening for Tchami in Calgary, Canada, and with big news to announce for his upcoming releases, Seelo’s bootleg is a freebie to all the fans while we wait for new original music.

Dark and deep is how Seelo likes his house music, reminiscent of Malaa, Tchami, and Oliver Heldens’ style. It’s in Alberta, West Canada, where he’s become a fixture in the underground electronic music scene, with releases on Canadian label AtomicSky Recordings, and support from Don Diablo and Judge Jules on his official remixes for Like Mike, and Adam K. You get a strong taste of his style here, which has us ready for more.

[Deep House] New Mystics – Sparrows (Bobby Nourmand Remix)

Bobby Nourmand has been unveiling original after original for a while, but today we’ve got an official remix of his to share. “Sparrows” by New Mystics got a musical makeover by Bobby, who dropped this flip on his label, Deep In The Night.

Bobby’s own dark brand of deep house is evident throughout all his tracks, including this one, however he shifts things into a different gear. In keeping with his deep aesthetic Bobby plays off what we expect while also adding in the addition of new soundscapes. It makes for not only a great remix, but a fantastic piece of evidence as to just what Bobby can do. He’s got more tricks up his sleeve so stay tuned for more!

[Electronic] Medasin – Irene Album

The Dallas producer Medasin has made quite many impressive moves over the years with his releases. Not only has he soared up through the industry ranks with his quality originals, but he’s been tasked to remix such artists as Khalid, Portugal. The Man, DJ Khaled, Martin Garrix and more. It’s been a long time coming, but Medasin has finally released his debut LP, Irene.

Within nine tracks Medasin explores different musical landscapes while weaving each composition together under one overarching concept. His chilled out hits are memorable and unique, catchy in their own rights without need of poppy principles. Medasin not only has released this debut LP, but will be on tour this Fall to promote the project. Get a copy of Irene today and check out Medasin’s Facebook for tour information.

Sunday Night Soul [Vol. 69]

As you may or may not have noticed, Sunday Night Soul was conspicuously missing last weekend. Fret not however, as tonight is a celebratory occasion. Over the weekend, we welcomed a brand new addition to the ninja family. From all of us here at The Music Ninja, we would love to congratulate our co-founder Clayton on the birth of his baby boy (make sure to leave him a nice note on Twitter). It’s only appropriate then that we dedicate this week’s episode in his honor (although we don’t think he’s old enough to listen to some of the music quite yet).

Of course there’s at least one more reason to rejoice, since these week’s playlist is packed to the brim with some amazing tunes. Without further ado, we’ll let you dive right in to the selection below. As always, make sure to follow us on Spotify and SoundCloud as well to get alerted when we update our playlist!

[Alternative] Golden Parazyth – Forbidden Fruit

There’s an undeniable swagger that drips from each note in “Forbidden Fruit.” The enticing rythym, the vocal hums, and the subdued percussion all create the perfect backdrop to introduce you to unforgettable vocals. It’s quite the listening experience, and one I’m slightly ashamed I hadn’t been hadn’t come across earlier.

Hailing from Lithuania, Golden Parazyth has churned up quite a bit of success opening for acts like Underworld, Lana Del Ray, Hurts, Nicolas Jaar, SOHN, We Have Band and GusGus.

With vocals like these, and a true talent for composition, it absolutely makes sense that those aforementioned acts would happily showcase this intriguing duo. And, as they did in the past, we’ll falling in-suit.

from The Music Ninja https://ift.tt/2KK85nL

[Indie] No Kind of Rider – “Autumn/Distinct”

Portland-based 5-piece No Kind of Rider caught our attention earlier this year with their sticky single “Distinct.” With a deep and ethereal soundscape, this tune couldn’t be shook from my mind. Haunting vocal hums carry along in the background, harmonizing perfectly with glowing synths and singular guitar notes, all of which are counter-balanced by enchanting vocals. At times, it beckons on old school Minus The Bear, which is a tall order. But, these cats pull it off well.

While that tune is top-notch, I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t call “Autumn” to your attention, as well. Another somber take on indie rock, it’s definitely a keeper for the colder weather that’s approaching. Buzzing basslines and a high-pitched synth are the biggest driver in this one, leading you down an introspective journey.

Be sure to keep an eye on this act moving forward by following them on Soundcloud.

We’re coming in hot with thirteen tracks to spice up your Friday night. These tracks are so good, though, you’ll want to take them with you for the whole weekend. Who would you be taking with you, exactly? This week’s batch includes G-REX, DIV/IDE, Pixel Terror, Chime, Juke Ellington and more. Not only do we have the aforementioned, but we’re kicking things off with some major underground vibes from HVDES who will be releasing her debut EP next week. You ready to party? Because we are. Click that play button and have a safe, fun weekend.

[Electronic] Midoca – Heaven

When we think of Midoca, generally we don’t think about Heaven. That’s no offense to him, because his music and visuals could be described as heavenly, but with a dark distorted twist to it. However, the LA creator makes his return to Lowly Palace with “Heaven.”

As far as Midoca tracks go, “Heaven” is one of the more, if not the most, upbeat of his records. He takes a slightly different tone, but instead of copping out on an all out happy go lucky record, he delivers his own unique sound with a hint of uplifting tonality. It keeps with his signature while also being a cool change of pace. It may not be the Heaven you’re used to, but you’ll want it in your digital library all the same.

[Electro] 1 7 8 8 – L & totto – F U L L / B U R S T

There’s a few artists that have exploded onto the scene in 2018 and one of those is 1788-L. The producer has made immense strides in the last several months with some incredible tracks including a collaboration with the one and only Rezz. Now 1788-L is back with another collaboration, this time with totto on Deadbeats.

Their work together on “F U L L / B U R S T” is beyond great. The electro single is innovate and not lacking in any way. Many producers are trying to take on this style, but few come close to doing it at the level that 1788-L and totto have done here. We may have a handful of months left in the year, but we’re going out on a limb and saying this is one of the best tracks of the year. Get your copy today.

[Hip-Hop] Benjmn – Complicated

There’s a certain mystique around minimal masterpieces. Although we don’t hold the answer to how to crack the catchy nature of a tune, we do have a prime example of a straightforward hit that doesn’t meddle in intricacies thanks to Benjmn.

Benjmn’s debut single is a slow-burning heater called “Complicated,” interestingly enough. Its minimal sound doesn’t live up to its name, but it’s not like we care given how incredible of a record this is. His alternative hip-hop style has just the right blend of sonic elements from various genres. He’s only one track in, but Benjmn has our full attention. He’s about to take yours, along with the top spot on your Spotify playlist.

from The Music Ninja https://ift.tt/2On3oCu

[Future Bass] Rebecca Perl – Keepin’ It Cool (Tep No Edit)

Toronto’s Summer songster Tep No has dropped a slick edit of “Keepin’ It Cool” by Rebecca Perl. The future-tinged treat is a nice little jam to celebrate the Summer season.

Catchy is the first word that comes to mind with this melodic piece. It’s a fun record that does what it intended to do; namely, keep things cool. It may hot out for most of us, but you can certainly chill out to yet another Tep No treasure. The style fits incredibly alongside Rebecca’s alluring vocal.

from The Music Ninja https://ift.tt/2M3r6Hn

[Electronic] coed records – freshpeople 01

The coed records team has launched a new compilation series and we couldn’t be more stoked about that. The tastemaking collective kick things into gear with the first installment of freshpeople, which comes in at four tracks in length showcasing some true underground talent.

The compilation includes records from beni, AZU, TYDPOOL and deadrose, three of whom are debuting on coed records with this release. It’s a nice collection of records with different feels, despite them all falling under what can be termed Summer records. It’s its own party. Add the party to your Spotify playlist today.

from The Music Ninja https://ift.tt/2vrYaOY

[Electronic] Mwansa – Moving On

The Australian Mwansa is making his way back to the musical landscape with his single “Moving On.” The Perth producer/singer has his debut EP on its way in the next couple of months, but he’s at least left us a little something to enjoy until then. Who knows, maybe we’ll get more music by then too.

Even if we don’t get another single, “Moving On” will leave your ears satisfied for a long time to come. The emotional, poppy gem is a duet with Kaitlin Keegan that will pull at your heart with a beautiful zeal. From start to finish its a memorable tune. Definitely add this one to your playlists!

from The Music Ninja https://ift.tt/2OoCZ7l

[House] Wolfgang Gartner – Freak

Wolfgang Gartner is having quite the year so far. The legend already has tastefully collaborated with some top prodigious talents in Jaykode and k?d, but now has added another original to the catalog with “Freak.”

If you have a Summer hits playlist, then this is going straight to the top of it. Wolfgang shifts a tad from his electro house style to lighten things up with some more mainstream sound. Now, a lot of time that doesn’t pan out creatively for some, Gartner’s got the skills to pay the bills. “Freak” is a fun filled jam that you can’t help but to love. It may not be our favorite track from the master, but he surely entertained us with yet another hit.

[Music Ninja Radio] Episode 119: A Touch of Everythang

Music Ninja Radio is a weekly podcast recorded and broadcast live on San Francisco’s BFF.fm  from 4-6PM PST every Friday.

Soundcloud || Spotify Playlist  || BFF.fm Archive & Tracklist

After a fun 2-hour mix of house / techno music last week, this episode returns to the usual genre smorgasbord of TMN radio. There were some exciting brand new artists to the show including the versatile stylings of Omar Apollo, a psychedelic experience from Portland band Hosannas, a vibey hip-hop cut from the Bay’s own Agpworldtour and a beautifully disorienting selection from Lotic’s debut album, ‘Power’. On the flip side, a lot of our favorite regulars dropped new albums or singles. As far as albums, The Internet’s ‘Hive Mind’ and Tanukichan’s fuzzy debut ‘Sundays’ are my personal favorites while Blood Orange’s latest single stands out as a track with endless replay value.

To close out the show I put together a disco-tinged set of house tracks. The mix includes cuts from madcat’s flawless debut EP ‘Petite musique de chanvre’, Route 8’s latest hazy project ‘Come Home’ and Detroit Swindle’s new album ‘High Life.’
