Saturday Selection Vol. 6

Saturday Selection

These past two weeks have been an absolute GOLDMINE for music fans everywhere. We’ve honestly never seen a month this stacked with releases both from established legends and exciting newcomers in a long time. It doesn’t stop, and we’d be fine it never did really. Even with all of the hype, you may have missed a few things, and we’ve got some highlights that you definitely need to hear. Switch up your taste a little today and show the talented folks below some love.

We were lucky enough to snag the opportunity to premiere CAFUNÉ’s debut EP, and now they’re back with a brand new single centered around positive thinking and brimming with a bubbly sense of optimism. These two have proven their chops time and time again with their pop renditions of Drake, Daft Punk, and Porter Robinson, but it’s original material like this that brings out the best in CAFUNÉ.

Mura Masa has skyrocketed in popularity recently, and Tonton decided to take on the tough task of giving a fresh spin on his massive tune “Lotus Eater.” What resulted is a touching tribute to the original, but also a testament to Tonton’s abilities. Those two factors are huge when it comes to a good remix, and this is a GREAT one. It’s thoroughly chilled out, but still packs enough of a punch to really catch your attention.

Roll your windows down and blast this one. Seriously, Anna Straker already has made a statement with this debut tune on her SoundCloud. “Late Night Swimming” is essential for this summer, and you’ll be wanting this in your playlists immediately. For us, her vocals are the driving force in the tune, even with the immense production behind them, and she’s not shying away from making a great first impression. We’ll patiently and excitedly be waiting for more from her without a doubt.

Sometimes you just need a song to wash away any and all worries you have. Mishegas‘ “Home” ensnares you from the first wistful and ethereal synths while building into a beautiful resolution. Even without any vocals, there’s a large amount of emotion present throughout, and that is the kind of production and structuring quality that other artists such as ODESZA and Big Wild thrive off of. Who knows? We may even see a Mishegas release on Foreign Family at some point. That’d be a pretty amazing fit.

Attempting to pinpoint an exact genre (which we really don’t try to do anyway) for YOKE LORE might just be impossible. Piecing together folk, small tinges of electronica, and emphatic vocals, “SAFETY” is one of the prime cuts off of their stellar Far Shore EP. As we continue to dive into the hotter months of the year, we can enjoy songs like this even more because they have a feeling of change. It might be the group vocals, it might be the tactful use of a banjo, it might just be that this is a great song and you should listen. We’re going with all three.
